With Tessa leading the group, you the Lionshield Coster. Hanging above the front door of this modest trading post is a sign shaped like a wooden shield with a blue lion painted on it.
Inside, you see shelves packed with different kinds of supplies and general goods (rations, tools, etc.), but no weaponry of any kind.
"Coming," a female voice can be heard from the back. The person that comes out to greet you all is a human woman, 30 or so years old. "Oh, new faces. Welcome. I'm Linene Graywind, what may I help you with?"
"Hello Linene! And Yondalla's blessings!" Tessa wishes cheerfully, waving her hand.
"We found a goblin lair, not far away from town. And in the lair were some crates bearing the symbol of blue lion, just like you have there. Would you be missing any supplies of late?" the halfling motions the human to come clsoer and see the crates.

The woman is slightly surprised at first, but her surprise breaks into a smile.
"Yes, we've lost contact with our crew who was supposed to deliver wagonload of supplies. Poor souls... I don't imagine you found anyone alive."
After she inspects the crates, she says "I'll pay you 50 gold total for bringing back the goods," and she hands you a leather pouch of coins.
"To be honest, I was thinking you might be with those Redbrand ruffians, but you seem to be honest folk alright."
About this time Maris will shuffle up to the counter, arms full of assorted goods, coil of rope in his teeth and will plop them onto the counter.
"We took some weapons off the goblins in our efforts. I've got these 2 scimitars I'm looking to sell, not really my style, but one did a number to my leg. Oh, and I'm looking to buy these." And he motions to the pile on the counter.

She looks at the old, beaten scimitars and says, "were these new, I would pay more for them. But in their current wretched and bloodied condition, you can keep the supplies for free."
Lillian's ears perk up. "Who are the Redbrand ruffians and should we be wary of them?"
"Oh, I see you haven't met them yet. Stay away from the men wearing red cloaks, and don't go near the Sleeping Giant. That's where they like to hang around. They're just armed ruffians looking for trouble, nothing more. Everyone's been having a hard time because of them..."
"I will try to avoid them if I can. Another question. If I were to require magic supplies like inks, papers, frog tongues, spellbooks, things of that sort, is there anywhere here in town such things could be found.?"

"You can try checking at Barthen's provisions. They offer more stuff than I do. If you happen to look for weapons, I have a selection in the back."
If anyone follows, the weapons available for buying are the ones in PHB, except for Crossbow, hand.
"Oh, gee. Thanks!" Tessa accepts the pouch of coins. "Happy to be of help!"
The halfing helps to unload the wares, following the conversation around her. "Ruffians, eh? Well, we're not scared of them. Just let us know if you have any troubles with them!" Of course, Tessa wasn't sure if the rest of the group shares her confidence. But letting some bad folks scare of good people doesn't sit well with her.
"Barthen's provisions? That's where we're supposed to deliver Gundren's supplies! You can do your shopping while we unload the cargo, Lillian."

"Will do, sweetie. I appreciate it, but I think I can manage. You be careful as well, don't get reckless."
"Oh! Very generous! Many thanks! Allow me to help with the crates as well!"
Maris will stow his new supplies in his backpack and grab a crate and turn towards the Lionshield Coster, and see Tessa heading towards Barthen's. He does a double take at the Coster, then to Barthen's, and shoulders up with Tessa.
"I wouldn't worry. I have a keen sense for things like this. Bandit gangs pop up all over small villages like this all the time. I'm sure it'll work it self out in a century or so."
As you head back into the street, you see four armed ruffians waiting for you. All of them are humans wearing grimy red cloaks, their hands on their weapons as they watch you.
One of the ruffians spits on the ground. “Time for you to move on, strangers. Give us your stuff, and be on your way.”

"A century!?!" Tessa gasps. "But, but... people don't want to wait that long! They want it safe. If not for themselves, then for their children! Can't have bandits running around for generations. Oh, wait! You elves... Hundred years isn't that long for you, is it?"
But the talk gets cut off by the appearance of some who seem very likely to be the aforementioned bandits. Tessa looks them up and down, shaking her head slowly.
"Well, no. We certainly are not going to give our belongings to you,"she says, giving them a very defiant look.

"What did you say? You have any idea who we are?" the ruffian spits and pulls out his sword. "To hell with this. Kill them!"
