"Thank you Jasper!" Khessa is flattered by the unexpected gift "I do not have something... material... to give you back as a promise of mine, so you'll have to take simply my word for it, but I also will be ready to help you. Event with 'what you are looking for', should you later choose to tell me what it is."
Her blue eyes stare at the charming color of the stone still a few moments, then, with a last gratitude smile at the elf, she slips her hand under the chainmail armor and hides the gem on her person.
Falver looks towards the window as the startled man addresses them through it, albeit a bit muffled...
He steps off the stairs as the others seem to be taking the matter up with the townmaster... letting the scene unfold.
Falver slides next to Rel and says lowly: "Really, any of the jobs will do... I am glad we are starting with helping the locals though. They may have some useful information... and a bit of coin never hurt, right?"
"Adabra lives alone in a windmill a few miles south of town!" the townmaster calls through the door. "I'll pay you 25 gold each if you see her safely returned to town. Bring me something from the dwarves that shows you talked to 'em and I'll pay 50 gold for that! And it's another 50 gold each if you convince those pesky gnomes to help us against the dragon!"
The townmaster's voice breaks on the last word, becomes high-pitched and quavering. It is clear he is deathly afraid of the beast.
"Let's head to the south part of the town, and we shall follow Echo's directions from there" proposes Khessa. Now that she has all the details, she seems no less eager than the others to take effective action to help the town in danger.
"I will stay in first position" she continues, unsheating her greatswod - an act performed automatically in anticipation of the dangers lurking, probably without consciously thinking about it "and, in case of problems with monsters, I will try to attract as much attention to myself as possible; my armor and training should allow me to withstand a few blows, if needs to be. Once we leave the town, if somebody more stealthy than I am" (to show what she is talking about, the tall warrior takes some of his usual long strides... while the metal rings of his chainmail clank in response) "feels like scouting ahead of us, alert and hidden, maybe just 30 feet or whatever distance he deems better, it might be a plus. If the scout spots trouble, he can come back to us, signal us to stop and warn us of the dangers avaiting. If the scout get spotted, he might be in danger... but with a quick run he should be able to come back behind me and the others. Of course, if no one feels confident enough to do this, we'll do without it, no problem at all".
As she witnesses the townmaster hiding in his house and protesting about being too skinny for a dragon to eat, deathly afraid, voice quavering, Rel is taken aback. Stunned really.
She thinks to herself, amazed: Are all leaders on the surface so craven? I have experienced ladies and lords who are cruel and domineering, but rarely one that is unashamedly a coward!
Aloud, she exclaims: "Are all leaders on the surface so craven? I have experienced ladies and lords who are cruel and domineering, but rarely one that is unashamedly a coward!"
(Much of the time, Rel has no filter between what she thinks and what she says). In fact, so puzzled by this is she, that it barely registers to her that Jasper only introduces everyone but himself by their first names only. Still bemused, she suggests to the group that Falver (last name unknown to her, just Falver), the halfling, serve as scout when the time comes. Rel takes a position at the back of the procession and observes to check if anyone is watching or following them as they leave town.
During the 'procession' Khessa tries to answer Rel: "Each person is unique Rel... You can find brave leaders... but you can also find less brave ones." she smiles "By the way, keep in mind that this Townmaster is not necessarily a WAR leader... since this is a town, not the camp of a well organized army. Maybe he is the perfect leader, for peaceful times. Perhaps, once the threats are eliminated, he will know how to make this village thrive and make countless numbers of people live well. He can be a good leader even if he seems so scared of the dragon. After all, scared as he is, he DID NOT flee, leaving the villagers in distress and without a guide... he started to look for brave heroes instead, people able to do what he, alone, was not able to. Nobody can do everything. Let's avoid to judge him too harshly".
Jasper walks along on the right side of Khessa about 5 to 10 feet back. 2nd or 3rd position. “I’ll help keep watch on the surrounding area.” While being very vigilant, watching the trees and the high grass, Jasper finds himself looking to the sky.
Echo tries to extend herself and peek into the house curiously as she hears the voice of the townmaster, but then shrugs as he seems determined to not show himself and shouts back: "Okay! We'll be back soon!"
She hops back to where most of the group is in the front of the house and goes: "Well alright! Guess we're going to get the midwife first? I think I know what windmill he's talking about, kind of hard to miss really. It's about less than an hour's worth of walking?" Her tone becomes a little unsure at the end as she scratches the back of her head, it's not somewhere she'd visit normally.
Jasper brings his attention back to the path and the surrounding areas. Echo mentioned we are looking for a windmill. With the reminder, I begin looking for one in the distance.

Falver , still watching the others is keenly aware of the hint Khessa drops.. he smiles as she unsheathes her sword.
Yes, he thinks, a bit of distance between himself and that blade would be decent. Plus, he's always liked to try and stay ahead of others... Then Rel voices her opinion that he should scout ahead.
"Sure, I'll scout ahead everyone. I'll run back if there's danger...though, this close to town really shouldn't pose that much of an issue I would think. " Falver moves about 60 to 100 feet ahead as they make their way to the windmill. Sometimes a bit more...
He keeps a keen eye out for any dangers , especially those in the skies above them.
It is about a five mile walk southward out of the village to the Umbrage Hill Windmill. As the companions make their way down the southward road, Jasper and Falver are the first to notice a shadow pass across the sun. Then a bloodcurdling roar breaks the stillness of the day. The large shadow is, in fact, clearly a large, white dragon; it soars overhead, its powerful wings beating furiously enough that the five companions can feel the gust of wind they produce. Circling overhead the dragon appears to be searching for something. It seems to spot the halfling first and lets out an earth-shattering roar of triumph.
Of course I should have taken the dragon part more seriously. I was too blinded by my grief and anger at the orcs. A difficult situation, certainly.
She touches her earrings. At the thought of orcs, an image of an exceptionally large one seems to materialize off to the side from Falver, greataxe upraised in challenge at the dragon. Dwarfing the halfling in size. The orc illusion appears to be taunting the dragon. (Casting Minor Illusion cantrip).
"Scatter and take cover. Hide. Don't attack it!Falver, run the opposite direction from the orc." Rel suggests in a low, urgent voice. Keenly aware she had just been talking about cowards and cravens, but back in town, the dragon hadn't been right there, targeting them...
She follows her own advice, looking for trees, rocks, uneven ground to hide behind.
Hearing the enormous roar shakes Jasper to the bones. Then the scream from Falver brings him to take a step back. Feeling the wind gust from the dragon wings and then the sight of this huge creature is enough to question his decisions.
Sliding his spear under his left arm, Jasper begins to speak some elvish but stops when Rel shouts for everyone to hide and to not attack.
”Get down! Get low!” Jasper forcefully whispers to everyone. Jasper looks for some high brush to try and hide.

If Falver finds somewhere to hide, he tries to do so without being seen by the dragon, hoping the Orc that appeared from nowhere is enough of a distraction.
Having run up a bit ((range 30')) to create the Minor Illusion of the large orc, which she is planning to change into a 5' x 5' x 5' block of ice encasing a large orc if the white dragon breathes on it (if she is near enough), Rel attempts to hide behind a copse of trees or outcropping of stone.
Her blue eyes stare at the charming color of the stone still a few moments, then, with a last gratitude smile at the elf, she slips her hand under the chainmail armor and hides the gem on her person.

”We are in agreement then!” Jasper shouts.
“Oh! I am Jasper Mooncrest. And I am with Khessa, Echo, Rel and Falver.” Gesturing in everyone’s direction.
“We shall return soon.”
Jasper looks at Khessa and proceeds to ask Echo…”Do you know where to the south we can find this windmill?”
Hearing the dragon mentioned again, Jasper is keeping eyes on sky more often now.
