"Judging from what my detect magic spell is showing me, the liquid from this fountain seems to be a potion of fire breathing. A swig of this and you will be able to spew forth a ignatious exhalation that may be able to scorch and burn enemies. Quaint and unusual..."
He then writes this discovery in his book.
(OOC: Crispy, the spell says that I also know the school of magic of anything magical that I sense. Am I able to discern the school of magic that's affecting the door?)
This section of hallway contains six doors, all slightly ajar. The area smells musky. The doors lead to small cells. Each door is open just wide enough for a small or smaller type creature slip through without having to open it further.
Balrog you detect with your survival skills that the tracks on the floor are extremely recent, AND that out of the four humanoid tracks you guys found earlier..now there are only three humanoid tracks. There is also about 5gp total strewn about in the cells.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Judas quietly pads into the room, and nearly falls over when walking into the back of Baltog. Both adventures are so into their inspections of the room, they failed to notice each other. “Sorry, amigo.”
You get a more specific reading on the tracks. Most of them are rats, perhaps..minutes old? But the humanoid tracks..Four sets of footprints going north. Only three coming back south. It seems like this particular trail is popular.
Judas: "The way north seems to be popular, but notice how there are four sets of footprints going north, and only three coming back south? That leads me to believe that some danger lays ahead to the north, and one of the previous adventurers succumbed to that danger. God works in mysterious ways, but I think he's trying to tell us to not head north. Let's head to that western door instead?"
OOC: I suggest we go through area 25 to area 31 (option #2 in CrispyDM's path options above).
AREA 25 is a square room that just contains more rat droppings, crumbled flagstone, and stains.
AREA 31 is a ten-foot-wide hall which is liberally strewn with sharp caltrops. On the northern wall, passage to the room beyond is partially blocked by a roughly mortared, three-foot-high wall, complete with crenellations. It is very quiet in this hall. There is a door that is closed that leads to AREA 32.
Meepo is sensing danger. He is shifting around nervously and his eyes are darting around the crenellations. "Meepo quiet. Thinks he hears something."
OOC: Do we need to investigate the door, or do we know if it’s locked?

OOC: And did Judas' tapping on the door receive an answer from any monsters therein? "Busy! Come back again another day!"
Last to know and first to be blamed...
As a free action, can I regret my life choices?
Good questions. So, first of all, the door is locked. And, no, no one answered, Judas, when you tapped on it. Varth, that would be TRANSMUTATION.
One final thing: Your detect magic is telling you that there is a secret message on the door: REBUKE THE DEAD, OPEN THE WAY.
You guys can figure out how to open the door, or press on. Meepo is anxious to find the dragon, but also loves to explore.
Judas: "Is this door an undead, living thing?"
OOC: Don't tell me it's a mimic?! I have a history, a SAD history, of door mimics....

Haha it's not a mimic. Good times.
“Right, I think we’ve pressed our luck thus far you lot... let us forget the door and move on..” Balrog states.

As Balrog enters the room he sniffs the musty air and his hackles rise at the sight of the cells, “Hrmm.. imprisonment doesn’t sit well with me...”

There are two options from this point, move on to AREA 29, or go through 25 to AREA 31.

Phil perceps bad.
Haha Phil. Meepo says in a whisper, "Think Goblins near! Can smell them!" He points to his snoot. "Have good snoot!"
A few rats scurry around the area, keeping everyone on edge. Meepo looks at the crenellation, expecting something. "Maybe just nerve."
