So, my total comes out to 13 for Investigation between the roll, my Int modifier, and Knowledge from a Past Life.
You see two things: firstly, while most of the floor is dusty, three lines go across the floor and converge at a back door. Second, there is a smashed stack of plates on the floor.
The sheriff opens the door and you see your checks' results.
"It's pretty much untouched, though old Gaven tried to check on them and only found the house abandoned, that's why the door's lock is broken."

"How long ago did this happen?" I ask. "I'm going to take a look around the back door and see if there's anything worth seeing before we disturb the inside of the building."
I’m going to cast Find Traps and look around the house.
You can detect only one trap. You get the feeling it is something to do with a lock on a chest. You can roll INT if you want to try and discern what the trap itself may be based on that.

You see a branch ripped off a tree, which is left about 5 feet away from the tree. Additionally, because you rolled high enough you can see through the back door, which is a glass door with a wood frame. The lines of dust lead here.

Does my 20 Int show anything about the lock/trap situation? Von probably rethinks avoiding it, since if it’s locked it’s probably hiding something important.
