Avaria also takes a quick glance toward Marrin after hearing the cry from Ula. Seeing her friend wrap herself in ropes, she smiles at her, giving her a quick nod and does the same for herself.

The ship rises high on the wave and then as it looks like the full force of the crest will smash into the masts and tear the Rose Marie asunder, the captain is able to catch the wind just right, and while the deck still becomes awash in water, the ship itself surfs down the massive wave, escaping the worst of the impact.
Jan adjusts her body easily as the ship's aft lifts high and then drops suddenly into the well created between the two waves. As she works to keep sitting upright, she manages to catch the title of one of the books on the table as it slides by right into Godrick Hargrove's lap: "Chronicle of Years to Come". The other book's title is too faded and it slides by too quickly for her to catch note of it.
Godrick's eyes narrow as he sees Jan reading the titles.
Up in the rigging, on the crosstree, Marrin almost loses her footing, both feet actually coming off the wood when the ship drops down the face of the wave. But she manages to hang on and get them both back solidly on the beam before she gets into any trouble.
Avaria rocks back and forth with the motion of the ship but doesn't lose her footing and even feels the same thrill of the hunt when the ship surfs down the wave.
The water flooding across the main deck makes things much more difficult for those stuck out in the open there.
There's just too much water pushing against them, making the ropes and mast incredibly slick, that both Ethel and Ula lose their grip and tumble across the deck, smacking into the wall of their own cabin (4 bludgeoning damage)
As they tumble by, Ethlehyn sees Quartermaster Bigge hanging on dearly to the rope she passed his way, managing to keep his feet.
With the forward sail replaced and the one in the aft furled and squared away, the captain is able to navigate the Rose Marie far enough ahead of the storm to reach relative safety. The wind still howls, the rain still pelts down, but the waves lose some of their force and keeping your balance becomes easier.
Jan is inside with Godrick Hargrove and Ethel and Ula are getting to their feet, nursing new injuries, but Marrin and Avaria have a good view of the seas around the ship.
As Ethlehyn kneels on the deck after crashing into the exterior of her cabin, she takes a moment to examine her injuries... then smiles a wry, almost smug grin. The false vitality afforded by her spell saved her from any real harm. The smile falters when she looks over to the young dwarf, who seems to have incurred some real bruises. "Come," she says to Ula as she offers a helping hand to stand. "I think the crew can handle the rest. Let's get back inside the cabin and wring this saltwater from our clothes."

Avaria looks around at the wild of the storm, the feeling flooding through her. Smiling at Marrin's expression and feeling secure, she takes a chance to look around.

As the ship steadies a bit, Jan stands and moves unsteadily towards the door, opening it and peeking out.
Seeing Ula and Ethel having taken a bit of a spill, she'll turn back to Godrick, heart racing as she attempts to take her leave.
"I thank you, Mister Hargrove for your hospitality, but we seem to be flying ahead of the storm, and some of my bunkmates are worse for the wear after that wave. If Mister Bigge has no more need of us above deck, I mean to see them safely below. Good evening."
History check on "Chronicle of Years to Come": 7 ((Is it a title she's heard of before, or knows anything about?))
Ula takes Ethlehyn‘s hand gladly in hers, standing shakily. Her other hand goes up to the hairline at the back of her neck, into her hair, and comes back with a weak mix of blood and water. “Took a bit of a hit… I’ll be okay. I’ve got my father’s skull!… I should get below though!…”. She’ll welcome a hand to get back to the party’s bunks. As she starts back, she sees many of her new friends heading that way too.
Ethlehyn and Ula help each other up and to their cabin. Thankfully they don't have far to go given that boat is still rising and falling with the waves. Now that Ula's rush of adrenaline has subsided and her head is ringing, she can feel the nausea of seasickness returning (Con Save please).
Jan slips quickly out of Godrick Hargrove's cabin, not recalling anything about a book titled "Chronicle of Years to Come".As the door closes behind her she hears the lock engaged with a loud click. She moves lightly across the deck, sidestepping debris, getting a nod from the quartermaster, and getting into the cabin with out mistep.
Marrin and Avaria stay a few moments longer up in the rigging, savouring their brush with danger and relishing in the feel of the wind in their faces. Marrin notices that with each wave, the Rose Marie seems to put more distance between itself and the heart of the storm. They may have finally gotten far enough west to escape.
Avaria's eyes drop downwards. Her hunter's gaze instinctively drawn to movement. Despite the dark water and skies, she's still able to pick out shadowy shapes in the sea. Large shadowy shapes. Very large, multi-limbed, shadowy shapes.
With how much of the ship you've now explored you have a pretty good idea of where everything is now. The below is not exactly what the Rose Marie is like, but it's close enough for our purposes.
You battled the ROUS in the aft #12 of the Hold.
The galley is approximately where #9 is on the Lower Deck.
Your cabin is the unnumbered forward cabin on the Main Deck, with the captain's cabin approximating #3 on the Main Deck and Godrick Hargrove's cabin being next to the captains.
You surmise the rest of the passengers are where #s 10 and 11 are on the lower deck. The crew quarters are scattered about the rest of the main deck and hold.
Once out of Hargrove's room, Janellae's pace becomes more steady as she strides across the slick deck, pausing to look down and make sure Ula and Ethel got below before glancing up to Ava and Mar, and giving them a bit of a wave before heading below. If they don't turn up in a few minutes, she'll resurface to check on them.
Down in the cabin, she checks in on Ula and Ethel, using a freshly cleaned rag to blot up any blood. She'll wring out some of her clothing, and set it to heating to speed drying, offering the same to the other two.
She'll speak quietly to Ethel, not looking to exclude Ula, but making sure it doesn't leave their bunk. "Turns out Hargrove is on this boat, during the chaos I managed to slip into his cabin, though he was with me, so didn't get a chance to do much more than avoid getting tossed about the deck... sorry you got knocked about. Does 'Chronicle of Years to Come' mean anything to either of you?"
Avaria looks to Marrin in alarm as her friend calls to her. Pointing down to the large shadows in the water, She also sees her other friends heading back to their cabin.
She yells towards Marrin, “We aren’t finished!! There is something in the water! Go retrieve our friends from the cabin and I’ll go inform Bigge!”
Without waiting for an answer, she climbs back down to the main deck, finding Bigge. “Sir, we have a new problem. Large shadows are circling us under water, with multiple arms? Any idea what they may be? I feel we are being hunted.”

As respects Jan’s question to Ula and Ethel about the Chronicle of Years to Come, you can both roll History Checks (Ula at disadvantage but she might have heard something in one of her parent’s tales of the old days; Ethel at advantage with her Researcher background).
Ula unfortunately feels the seasickness return and her movements are more clumsy and slow (disadvantage on Dex checks/saves).
Marrin and Avaria have no idea what’s in the water but from the reaction on Bigge’s face you’re pretty sure he has an idea.
”Which direction and how many?” He asks but even before listening he moves towards the stairs to the quarterdeck and starts ringing a bell that hangs there.
”Captain! We may have a giant squid problem.”
