Whistler just shook his head as he took in the sight. "Lost 'is fool mind," was all he said as he drew a dart, aimed carefully, and threw it toward the dwarf, aiming for a critical point.
FREE: Draw dart ACTION: Attack by flinging dart at dwarf, using Sharpshooter feat to take -5 on the attack and +10 on damage * Dart Throw - Attack: 15, Silvered Piercing Damage: 17 (or 21 instead if crit)
Ever the tank, Darbakh remains right in front of the crazed dwarf, unperturbed by the axe and hoping to hold the miserable wretch’s attention. For a brief moment, though, Darbakh stops, his stone grey skin crinkling as he cringes at the dwarf’s manic behavior in visible disgust.
”What madness broke your ‘shield,’ o shield-kin?”
he asks the crazed dwarf. His tone of disdainful pity would be clear even to people who don’t understand dwarvish.
Rather than attacking, he grips his maul tightly and prepares to Dodge, holding back defensively and closely watching the crazed dwarf - and hoping that it watches him rather than Evan.

The blast flies over the dwarf's head, striking a distant tree; however, the bloody assailant simply continues his muttering while glaring in every direction around him.
Yet another projectile flies towards the dwarf, and goes wide. The dwarf again fails to notice, looking around himself in preparation for a more obvious assailant.
Gordon is up! (( Gordon is still up in the village, 30 feet in the air, and right by the ladder down. The crazed dwarf is on the ground, plus thirty feet away from the bottom of the ladder. ))
*could minor illusion create the image of a creature?*
(( Sort of. Technically by RAW, Minor Illusion can only create an illusion of an object. However, I usually let this object be a model/statue/construct/whatever of a creature, sometimes giving the viewer advantage on their INT check depending on the creature that is modeled.
Also keep in mind, the illusion: has to fit in a 5-foot cube, cannot be animated, cannot be moved around once created, and can't produce sound while the image is active (unless you have a class feature that allows that.)
And in case this is where you were going with the idea, I'll confirm that the crazed dwarf's intelligence isn't very high right now. ))
(Are characters able to speak outside of their own turn during combat, or is speaking restricted to one’s own turn as a sort of free action?)
(( I'd prefer if it was on their own turn--as a free action--just to avoid confusion, but a one-liner spoken outside of turn order usually isn't a big deal. ))

*Can I create the illusion of hellish fire around him?*
(( You could, but it wouldn't be likely to do anything. It would be static, immobile fire, and it would be in his square, which means he'd immediately be physically interacting with it, and would automatically know it was fake. ))
Gordon climbs down the ladder to get closer to the action, then looks the crazed dwarf over. He reaches down to the ground for a rock, then stands and hurls it at the dwarf.
MOVE: Thirty feet down the ladder FREE: Object interaction w/ an attack (picking up the rock) ACTION: Attack the dwarf, now thirty feet away, with the improvised weapon (rock) * Rock Throw - Attack: 13, Mundane Bludgeoning Damage: 7 (or 10 instead if crit)
Once again the projectile fails to damage its target, bouncing obliquely off of the enemy's hide armor. The dwarf's breathing is still rather ragged, despite his mutterings; he seems to be almost finished, yet continues to hang on.

Aeron's spell came down to strike the dwarf; however, at the last second, he glanced up and managed to dodge the attack.
The assailant looked around wildly again, then squinted at Darbakh right next to him, before giving a murderous howl and lunging toward him, his blade trying to detach Darbakh's head from his neck.
ACTION: Attack Darbakh with his axe * Greataxe Slash - Attack: 11, Mundane Slashing Damage: 9 (or 18 on crit)
Both blades find their way past the dwarf's armor, sinking deep enough to cause the axe-wielder to drop. He jerks once on the ground, then lays still, the bloodied axe at his side.
(( End of Encounter ))
The sounds of the forest, which had stilled during the combat, slowly resume; a gentle breeze rises and begins to blow away the smell of smoke.
(( The party is free to rest or continue on. Don't forget, altogether 200gp worth of coin was found in the village, although no one has yet said they retrieved it. Also, while there were no weapons, armor or shields in the village, anyone who wants to look for a specific mundane item can do so. A DC 12 Investigation check will allow you to find any non-magical, mundane item or piece of equipment of a character's choice in the village (so long as the cost is 25gp or less.) Yes, that's an extra I'm adding because I really hadn't expected you all to save the village from burning down. Seems fitting. ))
