Race - Tortle (I imagine him looking like a snapping turtle, very much like Tokka from the TMNT universe)
Class - Barbarian (Potentially Blood Hunter if that is allowed, unsure since hemocraft is referred to as magic)
Stats - Ability scores: 1291691316
Background - Outlander
Basic backstory + why he is in Mezzra now- Tokka grew up in the swamps, in a place where survival was key and being eaten by some swamp monstrosity was an ever present danger. This lead to Tokka developing a rather predatory lifestyle, kill or be eaten. He had very little interaction with outsiders except for some traders who would infrequently come by, but he would listen to them speak with his fellow clan members, always wanting to hear more about the world outside the swamp. One day while hunting Tokka overheard screams nearby, he came upon a group of traders being assaulted by a giant alligator. His instincts kicked in and he charged forward, jumping on the beast's back and tearing into it with his claws. When it was over, the traders offered him a reward, he looked at his hands, the warm blood of the gator on them still. He had only ever known a world of survival and violence, he wanted to know more than that. And so he asked them that the next time they came to trade that they would bring him back with them to their city, for he wanted to see and learn about more than just the swamp.
If you want anything else, please let me know. I combined backstory and Mezzra into one but let me know if you want more.
That's good, I like it. Will have to bar blood hunter I'm afraid sadly, partially because I do not have experience with it yet myself, but it does look neat. I'll keep it in mind as a potential aspiration though.
Not going to quote everyone else here, but if I haven't quoted you assume you're fine! Unless it's "WIP" or you've only rolled stats, in which case I would appreciate at least some background.
Been getting more applicants than I expected, which is a bit of a happy surprise, but it does mean I will probably have to do some random rolls between eligible people to see who gets in at the end. I'll keep the thread on recruiting for another day (maybe two) before doing that- If there are things that I'd need to discuss after in private I'll do it once we have the final players.
Name - Tucker (Tuck to his friends) Thornbrush Race - Halfling (Either Ghostwise if the silent speech is allowed, or Lightfoot if not) Class - Rogue (normally would be arcane trickster, but since that likely isn't an allowable subclass will probably have to go another route. Soulknife and Phantom are also fun subclasses, but not sure if psionics or talking to spirits counts as magic, either...? So, if those are also not allowed then likely Thief. At 1st level, it's moot, anyhow...) Background - Archaeologist
Backstory - Tuck comes from a fairly well-off background, his family being locally renowned for growing fine tobacco. But rather than join the family business (a constant source of irritation to his small clan), Tuck's adventurous spirit and unbridled curiosity has caused him instead to make his living investigating the ruins and ancient sites of history, trying to learn more about those who have gone before. He's not above a bit of tomb-raiding - partly to find treasure to finance his lifestyle, partly to rediscover the past and share it with others (he has a few contacts in local temples and libraries who have expressed an interest in anything he might bring back), and partly to follow his dream of discovering any truth to the rumors of fantstic monsters and magic he has heard told in old tales, and read about in a few dusty old tomes.
He is a very dexterous fellow, using his small size, quick fingers and feet to get him into - and hopefully out of - tight places where he probably shouldn't have been; to that end, Tuck currently finds himself in the sprawling city of Mezzra, patronizing the library and reading through their extensive collection of ancient writings, in search of clues he hopes to find about an ancient temple, lying undisturbed and forgotten beneath another, newer place of worship, said to house enticing secrets...
Name: Fenton Mills Race: Human Class: Ranger Background: Criminal
Backstory: Still a work in progress but basic idea is Fenton is somewhat of a bounty hunter. Having worked for shady clients in the past, tracking down gang members who broke the ranks etc. he decided to leave that behind for more "wanted poster" type quarry. Always in the back of his mind is the katana that was his fathers, given to him as a young boy, and stolen one night he was in his cups. That trail has eventually led him to the streets of Mezzra.
Backstory: From a young age, Miyuki knew she wanted more than the life her family desired for her. The menial humdrum of her parents jewel shop bored her to death, so… she decided she’d do something about it. By the time she was fifteen, she was secretly pawning off jewels under her parents noses, and saving the money up for a purpose. The area they lived in was rife with crime, and her parents wouldn’t dare think their little girl was depriving them of funds. By the age of nineteen, she had enough coin and used it for her desires - going and buying a nice set of leather armor, daggers, a crossbow, and some other necessities and setting off. Her goal? To join up with the people her parents warned her to stay from, a gang of Tabaxi called the Bloodclaws, ruled over by a man dubbed “The Crimson Cat” by those below him. She succeeded, and soon fell into favor with the Crimson Cat, who treated her like a daughter and taught her skills she found fascinating, like: Picking locks, fighting, and sweet talking her way out of arrest. Sure, she wasn’t perfect, but she was young an inexperienced. But, the Cat trusted her… and did so enough that he felt she knew enough to go on her own for a job to prove her true worth. A job in a place she had never heard of: Mezzra.
Basic backstory: Slick Rick has been around. Mostly 'cus folks don't like him sticking around. Ol' Ricky comes on nice enough, hells he is nice enough most of the time. Problem is Rick likes nice stuff and he don't like real work. He has been caught a few times, not many, but the real problem is Slick Rick is a firm believer in the idea of 'Ya got something nice, ya should show it off!" This has precipitated numerous sudden moves to different places around, preferably somewhere he hasn't been before.
Why is your character in Mezzra now? Stealin', carousin', running from folks what want to hurt me for the former two activities elsewheres.
Other details: Missing an ear tip and patches of fur.
Just to give everyone a quick update - If I haven't quoted you and you have a simple backstory set up, presume you're fine (or at the least that any potential issues can't easily be resolved over DM's prior). Signups seem to be slowing down a bit, so I'm going to give it more or less one more day before I close the signups and let the dice decide who gets in.
Race: Reborn (originally an Owlin, do I get to keep Stealh skill and Flying speed?... if not is it possible to start as an Owlin and later become Reborn?)
Class: Ranger
Stats (Roll 4d6 reroll 1's once, OR take standard array): Ability scores: 10131511189
Background: Faceless (persona/disguise is that of a Wereraven)
Basic backstory (where did your character come from?): One of the rare few to escape the mists of Ravenloft. Now enjoying the freedom to explore and adventure.
Why is your character in Mezzra now?: Heard it was accepting of all kinds of persons.
Other details: As an Owlin had feathers as white as the driven snow, but now as a Reborn his feathers are as pitch black as the dead of night.
Sorry, Ravenloft is not applicable to this setting, so race and backstory would have to be changed. I'd allow Owlin though.
Basic backstory: Aegnor was born in a small family of outcasts. They taught him how to survive, and how to fight, but never told him about the bounty upon their heads, in fear that he would be frightened. They taught him how to survive, and how to deliberately stalk prey. In this they taught him patience, grit, and other necessary life skills for they knew that he would need them one day, the day that their pursuers caught up to them. And, indeed, that day came; in the dead of night, Aegnor and his parents were ambushed by bounty hunters. They were captured and sent to the duke who wanted their heads. However, Aegnor managed to escape, but was forced to leave his family behind. He never forgot, however, and swore that one day, he would get his revenge.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Second character... if I'm selected only choose one of my characters.
Ability scores: 131112111715
Name: Ghurk Bra'kathu
Race: Bugbear
Class: Fighter (might become a samurai)
Background: Soldier
Basic backstory: Ghurk Bra'kathu began life in his rather large bugbear tribe, consisting of around 26 bugbears. He was raised in the harsh manner classic to all bugbears. He was punished when he wasn't good enough, so he made sure that he would always be the best. He excelled at many aspects of, well, being a bugbear. He was a strong fighter, and he was undefeated in his tribe. His tribe eventually merged with a larger clan, consisting of hundreds of bugbears. He was a soldier in the clan's army, like so many others. He was tough, and resilient, and his company was always chosen for the toughest jobs. One day, however, his company bit off more than they could chew. They raided a military outpost; little did they know, it was a trap. One by one his comrades fell, until Ghurk was the last one standing. He continued to fight but eventually, he too was defeated. However, the captain of the ambushers told his soldiers to capture the bugbear, for he recognized that Ghurk was easily the strongest. They hauled him off to a dungeon, but within just a week, he managed to escape. He broke his bonds and surprised everybody by attacking the enemies who dared to capture him, rather than running away. In the end, he managed to escape. He managed to get his hands on some equipment, and he now is looking to start a new life, as an adventurer.
