In that case the DC is its Armor Class of 16; if you fail you knock it off balance enough that it can't make an opportunity strike but essentially wind up prone at its feet (!); success will knock it back 5' plus 2' more for every pip you beat 16 by; and on a 19 or 20 it staggers back the full distance and then falls prone on its back.
Hmmm. I wonder which option our showy, cocky l'il eladrin would be more likely to pick LOL? Except being on the skin of death .... hmmm ,intersting dilemma. I wait with bated breath to see on which edge of Occam's razor Artifexwill choose to fall ,,,)

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Spitting blood and glaring at Uz with the kind of sick hatred only seen when a being who previously thought themselves invincible is brusquely reminded otherwise, the bully tridenteer who engaged him first grips its weapon with both hands and lunges forward in a last-ditch charge of desperation, trying to either kill the hobgoblin at one blow or at the least push him back from it.
Meanwhile, in the clearing, the shaman leader also is beginning to reassess its first overconfident analysis of the situation. It stumbles from the wounds it has taken, though it doesn't seem nearly as close to dying as the tridenteer does. A moment later it seems a little stronger still, as it twirls the staff it is leaning on for support into the mud at its feet. Wisps of mist curl up from the spot and swirl around before some drift up to the shaman's nostrils and others waft across the battlefield to be breathed in by one of the giant frogs and one of the ordinary bullywugs. Each of these seems slightly invigorated by the breath of swamp gas, though it smells as unbearably putrid as the zombie's cloud to you. (aid for +5HP each to current total, max also adjusted upward by 5)
Gwrgi, in her turn, tends to the healing needs of her side. Though she doesn't have any spells that are of such widespread application, she is better at healing individuals one on one. She quickly looks about and decides that Artifex is still the party member most in need of magicomedical attention. She steps back away from the battle in the clearing towards them, and lays her hand on the downed eladrin, At the same time, she unslings a war hammer from behind her back and glares at the tridenteer at whose feet they lie, trying to back the bullywug down.(cure wounds for 4 healing to Artifex)

Round 5, initiative counts 20-17:
Cove ambusher #2 initiative 20 - 13 damage

Artifex initiative 5 - 9 13 damage before healing from this post applied

(Tarton and Zladark are up; technically Gwrgi is after them, but since her actions don't affect anyone before her in the initiative I decided to lump it in with the current post this time)
Zladark finally managed to squirm free from the crushing jaws of the giant frog. With a wet, sickening sound, he slid out of the beast’s maw, his robes clinging to his body, soaked in thick strands of glistening saliva. Gasping for breath, he landed on shaky feet directly in front of the creature, face-to-face with its bulbous eyes and flexing throat.
Before he could even recover his stance, a noxious wave of gas rolled over him — the fetid stench of rot and decay pouring from the reanimated monstrosity he had thought vanquished. The air turned thick and toxic, invading his lungs like smoke from a burning swamp.
Zladark choked, coughing violently, his body already battered and near its limit. But he did not fall.
Steadying his breath, he focused inward, recalling the breathing forms of his monk order. His lungs, though burning, slowly adjusted. His heartbeat calmed. His mind cleared — just enough.
Though his limbs trembled and his blood stained the edges of his tattered robes, Zladark remained standing. Barely upright, swaying like a reed in the wind, he stood his ground.

Did I not free my self from the jaws of the giant frog?
To make sure he is able to dodge the giant frog's attack, Tarton isn't quite able to dodge the bullywug's axe attack which hits him on the shoulder. That is how much he doesn't want to enter the frog's mouth again.
Tarton growls in frustration at the axe blow. After realizing that he's not going to get any distance from the two attacking him, Tarton draws a second dagger from within his sopping cloak and stands his ground while thrusting a dagger at the frog and with his off-hand thrusting the other dagger at the bullywug.
"How's that? One dagger for each of you!" Tarton says defiantly.
As Gwrgi spoke the healing words, Zladark felt the warmth of magic flow through him, knitting torn flesh and easing the deep ache in his limbs. He gritted his teeth, steeling himself for the next attack.
A frogman lunged, thrusting its spear toward him with sudden force, but Zladark twisted at the last moment, narrowly dodging the strike. The air split with the motion of the spear just inches from his side.
He heard the familiar sound of Artifex again using his tricks — the splash and sizzle of the spilled grease coating the ground — and adjusted his stance, centering his balance in preparation should the terrain betray him. His ears caught the shambling advance of the reanimated corpse, and with it, a stench that turned the air thick and sour. He instinctively held his breath, waiting.
From the bloated mass of the corpse, a vine burst forth — slick with rot and pulsing with unnatural life — lashing toward him. Zladark ducked low, letting it pass harmlessly overhead.
With one foot firmly planted to avoid the slick surface, he drove his quarterstaff forward in a powerful arc, striking at the creature’s decomposing form. Not wasting the momentum, he anchored his staff into the earth and launched into a follow-up kick — all while maintaining careful footing on the grease-slicked ground.
Only then did he allow himself to breathe again, inhaling the foul, stagnant air. It filled his lungs with decay, but he didn’t flinch. He stood tall, battered but unshaken, and whispered to himself through clenched teeth:

(OOC: and in a more general update as to where we are in the story:
your characters don't know this at all, but this matter between the lizardfolk and the bullys is the last major side quest before the party arrives at the GENERAL area of river in which the complex your employer wants you to check out is located.
GENERAL area, mind you. (mwa-ha-ha-hah...) However, I don't mind hinting that there will be an encounter just beforehand which might guide you in the right direction; and that you should probably look more often towards the path less traveled and in the direction of less inhabited lands as you approach closer to the vicinity Mr. Leewamba has marked on the map he gave you (copy to be edited in below):
After spending nights of varying interest ;) you all gather in the common room in the morning. Myrtea greets you with individual trays, each bearing a full traditional Abyrstwyth breakfast: ] Fried laver with cockles and bacon, oat porridge, small dark brown sausages, mushrooms and eggs. She is equally courteous to all of you as she serves this, but Artifex notices Glyn giving them a brief knowing look as they enter before his face settles into a professional neutrality, and Myrineis conspicuously absent.
After you have eaten, Myrtea approaches you again. "I'm so glad you've decided to help Mr. Leewamba! He left word that he thinks your best course will be to start out by traveling up the Penveryll River until it curves off towards Cricket Tor, and then explore the cluster of hills and mountains just north of that curve. He has had certain divinations made to seek more information about the matter, and they have given some clues which will be useful in finding the right spot. You are looking for a lair, a warren of tunnels on at least two levels, that the party whose box you are in search of inhabited for a long time before he was driven by his restless madness to move on. The diviner is sure the box was left there, and furthermore stated that the place would be
"In a mountain cave marked by bones ... ... watched over by berries of life and death .. .. behind stone that is locked with shadows; and behind the shadow of stone ..."
They also thought, but weren't certain, that it would be located either in the eastern end of the range that extends out from Feywild Landes in a loop, or in the ridges and peaks just north of that range.
Now you could, it's true, travel up the river path as far as the ford to Reykkholt and then travel on Ulvsnesshjolm roads all the way to the first range you want to check. But their tolls are high, and although we here in Llandovion are supposed to be strictly neutral, in my personal opinion the Duke of Ulvsnesshjolm does a far worse job of controlling bandits in his duchy than the Duke of Abyrstwyth. And its not just because I was born there; Glyn agrees with me too. I think all in all you'll find it more pleasant to bushwhack your way up the river from the point the path turns off. And the borders have shifted since this map was made; the river is now directly on the borderline, and neither Duke wants to inflame the situation by trying to collect tolls on the Penveryll itself or any paths so long as they follow its course."
(ooc:
1. laver = edible seaweed traditionally used in Welsh cuisine)
2. right now, you're about where the Easter Island-looking head is on the map, or perhaps a little north of there.)
(and dealing with time issues of my own as well as increased needs to be more the support person in relationships with my mom and one friend who is also on the neurowyld end of things, I can only apologize yet again for the tardiness of this response; and to say that ... )
The nimble halfling's hands strike out in a blur of motion as Tarton tries to rid himself of the two persistent attackers who have followed him even through what he had previously thought a foolproof means of escape. His left hand lashes out first, catching the giant frog that looms on that side a piercing blow that causes it to leap up convulsively with the webbed talons of its feet digging into the wet soil. A spray of flying mud spatters Tarton across the face and spoils the aim of his second blow; and by the time he is able to wipe the foul stuff out of his eyes the smaller and nimbler bullywug has moved too far to correct the dagger thrust enough. On the good side, the poor froggy steed that he did hit doesn't look like it will take too many more blows to finish it off: it is still on it's feet, but it seems to be having difficulty focusing its gaze on the small and maddening target before it, and it is definitely swaying a bit on its paws.
It is now the bullywug rider's turn to carry a big stick, metaphorically speaking, as it renews its answering assault on Tarton. It is enthusiastically seconded by its fellow redshirts, as they successively repeat the same attacks upon the same targets they chose last round ... clearly hoping for a miraculous last-minute improvement in their luck in the true classic redshirt style. Nor do the almost bullroarer-like sounds of Zladark's near misses give them pause; or the coldness in the monk's whispered mantra that would warn any sane and rational being of the Prohaska monk's increasing struggle to master his emotions and not transform into a destructive whirlwind of fury that would lay waste to all that dared to stand before him, be they standing foe or wounded and penitent captive.
Bullywug #1 short axe attack vs. Tarton: 8; damage if hits 6 slashing
Bullywug #2 spear attack vs. Zladark (one handed): 10; damage if hits 2 piercing
Bullywug #3 spear attack vs. Saorisirse (two handed after charge to close distance between it and the sharp-eyed elven sharpshooter ... more damage, but due to the unique circumstances of the particular ground it is charging over, that gives it disadvantage on this attack ONLY -- it had to cross some of the wetter ground and small streamlets that feed into Tarton's part of the battlefield and make it so muddy): 18; damage if hits 4 piercing
Round 5, initiative counts 14-7:
Cove ambusher #2 initiative 20 - 13 damage
Main (clearing) bullywug leader initiative 17 - 11 damage
(for Saoirsirse's comfort, if the attack hadn't had disadvantage her attacker would have rolled a natural 20! for double damage...)(and BTW, I still haven't given up on getting you a copy of the campaign link that you can use to get Saoirsirse into the log page. It's definitely useful in terms of being able to roll the dice right on the page without needing to know how to operate the forum dice roller which is often glitchy anyway ... if you're registered in the campaign log, then whenever you click an ability or attack or whatever on your D&D Beyond character sheet it will roll those dice and post the result to the log where all the other players and the DM can see the roll. If we can't do this then I'd like you to at least DM me a link to Saorsirse's character sheet (using the link symbol above the message box you're typing in, looks like two links of chain stretched from top left to bottom right). Like I've said, I don;t want this to be a character killer encounter for anyone so I want to be able to keep track of character hit points and apply some NPC ally healing via Gwrgi as needed. I can see the HP of all the people who are in the log, but if we can't figure that out then the link I've suggested will let me keep an eye on your character's health as well)
(also. in better news, your [plural; all players in this thread] status has been elevated. I have been inspired by Spira's DM to consider an ambition of eventually publishing some or all of Sauvogia; whether as a full campaign world or as a set of modules that describe the pertinent areas the adventures are set in. Since I didn't plan this whne I started I will not expect anyone to be a cited playtester without getting their full permission; and without that I promise that you and your character will remain no less anonymous than you are here and now just posting to this thread LOL)
(actually this is a bit of a fusion of the Sauvogia I have now for an idea that was brewing for a themed campaign world whose focus would be what I call the "misty meta-genre" of adventures and stories ... everything from the swirling and clammy shrouds of Ravenloft, to the fog-drowned streets of Holmes' or Jonathon Strange's London; to the misty surrealism of many wuxia and xianxia films. Then it occurred to me, "Well, bloody hell, you already have a campaign world that has the Haunted Lands, the lands ceded to the Feywild, a spooky mystery under Cricket Tor ... um, guess I've already been working on the mist-themed world without knowing it for quite some time now ...re-LOL -- or should that be 'LLOL' ? You know, like P.S., P.P.S., PPPS, etc... um, never mind, just a passing swirl of autistic wordfascination mist. Gone now, me all better, OK byebye happy happy yes?)

(and Uz is up, followed by the bulk of the remaining bad guys.)
