"Elvish wine would be lovely if you have it. Or if you have anything particularly rare, I'm loathe to say no to the opportunity to try something new to me."
“I too would relish a glass of elven wine. Excellent choice. Lead on!” Erolith seems oblivious at the moment to things around him. Perhaps it was the honey mead from earlier or perhaps it was the intoxicating dance by the wood elf.
Mr. Leewamba extracts a folio bound in green leather from his pocket and writes down all of your drinks. He goes over to the bar and speaks to Glyn and Myrtea, who wrap up their conversation with a few hurried words when they see him approaching. Then he returns to you, while the two behind the bar seem to divide up that space between them and turn to serving patrons in their respective sections.
Your host walks past you with a nod and a waved invitation to follow, and leads you over to the staircase leading up. As he passes Tarton, he hands him a carved wooden cup filled with dark purple juice and speaks in Halfling: "This was the last they had of the fresh ceirios juice, and Myrtea feels that's what you would be most likely to enjoy; but they do have a few others also for later." He bends to whisper, still in Halfling, "Thank you. Glyn had been occupied with a ... business discussion, from what I can gather ... and did not notice them, but I believe Madame Ivui ... ," he waves gracefully at the wood elf dancer, " ... became aware of their interest and will be taking a sharper interest of her own in their subsequent doings." As he straightens and beckons to everyone to follow him up the stairs, a brief squabble in the Minotaur tongue flares behind the bar and is as quickly quenched. Myrtea's voice was by far the most frequent and the final speaker; the other was higher in register but a similar enough voice to Myrtea's to make it obvious she was some near relation. The only part of the conversation you understood, though, was Myrtea's final remark, in icily weighted Common:
I am not asking you, Myrine. Since you see fit to play the barmaid so frequently when ... certain individuals ... are about -- you will work as one.
Now."
A few moments later, a young half-minotaur woman walks over to you with a tray on which your remaining drink orders uneasily repose. For a moment you consider trying to bottle the expression on her face for future use against trolls and other regenerating creatures ...
... but only for a moment. Myrine quickly settles her features into an imperturbability whose only flaw ... aside from you seeing the transition and the pure vitriol that preceded it ... lies in its being much too artfully flawless
Tarton relaxes as he sheathes his daggers and responds in Halfling, "You are indeed generous. My deepest thanks." He accepts the wooden cup and raises it up in Myrtea's direction, accidentally spilling a few drops, which makes his face turn red as he gives her a nod. As he follows Mr. Leewamba, he says quietly in Halfling, "I did not doubt you would have it under control and only spoke in case it was some sort of test. I'm sure those two will be easy enough to handle but..." Realizing he was still speaking in Halfling, he says at normal volume in Common, "Again, I thank you for your generosity."
He doesn't react to the comments from the bar, nor the approaching bar maid as he appears to be trying to decide on something while looking into the cup in his hands.
Tarton does believe they can deal with the situation but is pondering about saying something else about it. If you think this is worth rolling for, let me know what it should be (INT, WIS, or insight).
Artifex can't help but give a slight chuckle as they take their drink. Dropping their voice a little, they say to the half- minotaur "Sounds like someone's in trouble... But rules are meant to be broken no?" It raises the glass of wine slightly, toasting her, a smile dancing on the corners of their lips. "I wish you good fortune, and a thrilling night." With that, Artifex follows the others

No, in this case I'd say you're fine as far as saying something you already know goes, but if you want to try and think of something your character hasn't realized yet I'd say an Insight or an INT roll on your character sheet would be appropriate -- Insight if you think that the process would involve flashes of intuition or anything like that, or INT if you think it would be a strict logical reasoning process. Post here with which one you want to use, then click the appropriate one on your character sheet and I'll either message or post the results.
I'm getting used to DMing on these particular play by post boards, and able to relax some of the things I said eariler that now seem to me a bit unreasonable. As a general rule on this thread hereoninandafter:
if you want your character to try and use a particular ability go ahead and mention what ability you're using after a line of separators, but then roll the ability by clicking your character sheet in the campaign log and I;ll decide whether in that particular case it;s more apprtoopriate for you to describe the RESULTS of the roll in a post on the thread or if there are other factors your character may not be aware of which make it more appropriate for me to announce and describe the results as part of a more general post dealing with several things at once

Myrine raises one eyebrow at this, not quite as elegantly as her mother might have done but quite a passable effort for her time of life. Then she turns back to the bar, glancing once over her shoulder at Artifex as she goes, and then withdrawing her gaze before they can read hers ... although you're not certain it will require all that much interpretation ... Unfortunately, that was the very moment she tried to also spin in a way that would flare out her gwisg cymraddodiadol,
flirtatiously, and she instead stumbles clumsily and heavily, cursed by the post gods to be unable to turn off the boldface and italics that are drawing such embarassing attention to her every action. She finishes by giving Artifex a final smoldering ember glance of mingled lust and wrath and disappears behind a cloud of smoke several newly arrived kender seated at the bar are exhaling in an ever spreading cloud.
After a few steps Tarton continues talking quietly in Halfling to Mr. Leewamba, "I assume talking in Halfling is to keep delicate information from prying ears, so I will continue using it. I hesitate to say this after already being assured about my previous concern. However, the two in the booth are not what worried me most, but what is above them... that is making me uneasy. I am not sure what it is, but that broken torch basket, it doesn't seem right to me. In fact it feels wrong, but I can't figure out why. I would not sleep well if something bad happened because I didn't provide a warning. If my warning is for nothing, then I can sleep all the easier knowing there never was a danger."
As Tarton grimaces at how embarrassed he would be to stumble like that in front of people and watches Myrine disappear into the cloud of smoke, he takes note of how the view within the room seems to be reducing rather quickly, at least to him.
LOL about the post gods and boldface/italics. I found I had to backspace to before the original bolded words, re-write what was typed and then go back and bold what I wanted. Why doesn't the command bold and un-bold? I haven't tried italics other than what I have copied.
No need to roll for something I already don't understand. It was more about how to act in this social circumstance - and to not meta game this by jumping at every little thing. Too late now though as he just noticed something else.
I'd like to roll a perception check to see at what rate visibility is dropping, if at all, and to take note of what is still visible, particularly where they are headed.

Mr. Leewamba looks over at the torch basket, and nods to you. "Oh, that is interesting. I must compliment you on your sharp eyes ... and for the compliment. I hadn't quite planned the use of Halfling in advance, I'd really meant it as a courtesy to you, but it is useful for communicating thus, so: ah. Yes. I am a little more uneasy about those two now also, and I will certainly have Miss Rhosywyllyn," he waves over his shoulder towards the spot Myrine last was seen, " -- pass the word on. But I am actually inclined to regard it more as an insult than anything else. Did they think no one would point it out to me? Or that I would be ... ah, that's it. They think me the innocent little sheep, not the old ram that has seen enough horn-scuffles in his time to know there ought to be more damage from a brawl than that. Or none. One torch basket, the thing that so conveniently darkens that corner and fills it with smoke ... " He breaks off his words to sniff in disdain, then his mouth quirks up into a smile as the first wisps of smoke from the kenders' direction drift over. "Other smoke, on the other hand ...," he muses, speaking now in Common. He chuckles, perhaps a little reminiscently.

Oh, certainly, go ahead and make that PER roll. Everyone also please roll Medicine to see if you recognize the scent of the kenders' smoke

Well, the strangest thing about mine is that it doesn't happen the first time I edit, but twice now when I've been editing there's come a point where I've bolded and italicized something and I want to switch it off and can't. From that point on, nothing I do will prevent ANYTHING I put after that from being converted to boldface italicized text. It doesn't matter whether I type that text there, or type it before and cut-and-paste it in, the cut/pasted text will immediately be converted to bold and italics. The stirrings of the AI goddess of chaos perhaps? LOL ...
Inspiration for that one is that I was at my local game shop yesterday and they had a promo poster from long ago they brought out and were framing for display, that showed the alignments of various RPGs and RPG board games. I remember Munchkin was chaotic evil, Settlers of Catan was neutral good, I forget if there's a game called Fluxx but that's what sticks in my mind for chaotic neutral, and so on. Still gives me a chuckle, but chucklehead as I was I didn't have anything with I could write down the poster's publisher so I'll have to go back again before I can google it and find out if they're still even printing the thing
You all may see a few new options appear for your characters; I've just signed up to participate in the playtest for the 6th batch of Unearthed Arcana content they're checking out for the new edition of D&D that they keep denying is a new edition of D&D. I have full content sharing on in my campaign so I would think all of you will be able to access the playtest content also; I'll post here as I run across things I think might be intteresting to your characters,, and I'll describe also a bit of what caught my interest.
I like to noodle just a bit in homebrew, and I like to play among other things bards, so I'd already been considering 'brewing up a bard College of Acrobatics, and I see that one of the theings they're trying out in this content is a bard College of Dance. close enough to immediately catch my eye as at least a customizable homebrew template. The text iin the page the link led me to is as follows:
In this new Unearthed Arcana document for the 2024 Core Rulebooks, we explore material designed for the next version of the Player’s Handbook. This playtest document presents updated rules on seven classes: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, and Rogue. This document also presents multiple subclasses for each of those classes, new Spells, revisions to existing Spells and Spell Lists, and several revised Feats. You will also find an updated rules glossary that supercedes the glossary of any previous playtest document.
This Is Playtest Content
The material in Unearthed Arcana is presented for playtesting and to spark your imagination. These game mechanics are in draft form, usable in your D&D campaign but not refined by final game development. They are not officially part of the game. For these reasons, material in this column is not legal in D&D Adventurers League events. For more information, please visit our FAQ.

What to Expect in Unearthed Arcana Moving Forward
To now, the playtest materials you’ve seen for the 2024 Player’s Handbook have represented an experimentation phase. We’ve made big swings in these playtest packets to see what resonates with players and to help us home in on the best ways to improve upon the 2014 Player’s Handbook.
Now, we’re moving into a refinement phase. “This is the first Unearthed Arcana in the series that represents a lot of refinement based on the playtest feedback we have been receiving previously in this series,” said Crawford. “Now we’re really focusing on refining those things that are going to end up in the 2024 version of the Player’s Handbook.”
You may have noticed that some class features from the 2014 Player's Handbook have been absent in previous playtest packets. As we move toward our goal of finalizing player options, you can expect to see a return of these features in this and future playtests.
Class Changes in Player’s Handbook Playtest 6
Player’s Handbook Playtest 6 updates seven classes: the bard, cleric, druid, monk, paladin, ranger, and rogue. The following table highlights some of the bigger revisions to these classes. Below that, we discuss a few overarching changes you’ll notice across these classes.
Player’s HandbookPlaytest 6: Class Revision Highlights
Trade Sneak Attack damage for effects that hamper foes with Cunning Strike
Steady Aim is now a standard feature
Weapon Mastery feature added
Subclass Progression Reverted to 2014 Player’s Handbook
Subclass features follow the same level progression as they do in the 2014 Player’s Handbook, meaning classes will look more like what you’re used to from the 2014 Player’s Handbook. “It was a fun experiment to see how it would work if every class proceeded through their subclass levels at the same time, but that exploration was causing some ripple effects that were then causing other problems in certain classes,” Crawford explained.
However, there is one exception: Subclasses still kick in at 3rd level across the board.
Weapon Mastery Added to New Classes
Introduced in the previous UA, the Weapon Mastery feature and Mastery weapon properties were a huge hit, so we’re continuing to playtest them. The following classes get the Weapon Mastery feature in Player’s Handbook Playtest 6: monk, paladin, ranger, and rogue.
Additionally, the War Domain cleric can access the Mastery property for one weapon.
Epic Boons No Longer a Capstone Feature
Epic Boon feats are taking a backseat in this playtest packet. Feedback shows that while players enjoy them, Epic Boons aren’t a good substitute for class-specific features at 20th level. So, we’ve brought back capstone class features and, in some cases, introduced new ones. We’ll explore Epic Boons more in a later playtest.
So if anything particularly strikes anyone about the new content I would be glad to pass on your feedback with curmudgeonly honesty. For instance, my first comment was:
The bard is beloved for its flexibility and ability to be a jack-of-all-trades. This can manifest in their features that allow them to pluck spells from other spells lists or mimic some of the martial prowess of other classes. The updated bard in Player’s Handbook Playtest 6 leans into this theme in a big way, in addition to introducing the new College of Dance subclass and updating the College of Glamour, College of Lore, and College of Valor.
Choose Your Spell List
At 1st level, you’ll decide whether your bard will prepare spells from the Arcane, Divine, or Primal spell list. This choice will reflect the source of your magic and can reflect who your bard was before ever adventuring.
Will you be a bard who found joy in nature and now plays their flute to command swarms of wild animals to attack their enemies? Or did you grow up among nobles and learn to deceive and enchant your way into power? Perhaps you danced in your youth at a temple and found that your art could not only inspire others but heal them of mortal wounds?
No matter how you approach them, bards are now more flexible than ever. “Bards are all about using whatever tools are available to them to entertain people, to mess with their enemies, and to bolster their friends,” said Crawford. That’s especially true when you get Magical Secrets, which returns to 10th level and allows you to prepare spells from the Arcane, Divine, and Primal spell lists.
Um ... so you're telling me it's ADDING flexibility to a bard to limit them by making them pick only one out of three types of magic at first level?
Hmmmm ... must be some kind of mass confusion effect operating on me ...can't quite seem to see the doubtlessly crystal-clear and un[ condition]obscured[ /condition] logic in that ...
Are you saying these new features are open for us to try in your campaign? I can see that if I go to edit the character, under Class - Optional Feature Management, the option to use the Steady Aim is available at level 3, there is a check box to add it. Other than that I can't see anything new and don't want to try to edit the character more than just look at what is available.
Available but not required, and honestly I'm not sure what exactly the new material adds, only that WOTC asks that if I try it I give them playtest feedback on it. So I'm fine with anyone using as much or as little of it as they want; but if you do try it and want to give some feedback you'd like me to pass on to WOTC that's what I'm offering to do. This is strictly optional for those who want to use it

After a little shake, Tarton looks more relaxed, though embarrassed as he spilled another drop of his drink. He takes a drink so as to not spill more, than asks the group, "How long have you known each other, or are we all just meeting tonight?"
"I cannot speak for the rest, but for me, it is the first time meeting everyone. However, I must say, it has been an interesting meeting so far," The Black Rose smiled. "That reminds me, one of you was suggesting a wager, if I'm not mistaken. Was it you, Artifex?"
Im okay not using the new rules for the monk, it is my first time trying the monk class so i would like to try it with the original rules first, but thanks for the offer.
Erolith responds to Tarton, “Today is my first time to traverse the streets of this city and be in the company of these travelers. I am far from home but adventure marks the path I follow.”
A mischievous gleam and a smirk passes across Erolith’s face as he says this.
"As for myself, my eyes have never before been laid up on the faces present, though I hardly find that a surprise." Artifex says, taking another sip of their wine, looking at the bit of spilled wine with a slight shake of its head, more disappointed by the wasted alcohol than anything else. "I have not been away from Durmista for long, at least as Quessir reckon time. It's been..." They think for a moment. "Twenty snows I believe."
Artifex turns to The Black Rose, Its smirk stretching into a grin. "T'was indeed I who suggested a wager. Its how I pass the time, though I did not have anything specific in mind. Would you prefer to choose the game, or the stakes?"
At the mention of wagers, and Artifex' passing their time, a deep gleam begins to sparkle in Mr. Leewamba's eyes. "As it happens, my good Tel'quessi, I happen to appreciate passing the time in that way myself, and the kindness of our hosts has led them to acquire the apparatus for a great many games of chance for the connoisseurs among their patrons to enjoy." As he speaks, Myrine emerges again from the fogbound bar with a tray holding a fresh round of drinks. She walks over to you slightly more delicately than she departed, wisps of smoke from the cloud swirling in her wake as it slowly drifts over to mingle with the general reek around you, that even the nicest common room finds inevitable until the proprietors can afford permanent continual light spells. Myrine's eyes seem nearly crossed as she approaches; she seems to have one steadily fixed on Artifex while the other is equally hypnotized by Mr. Leewamba. As she comes nearer, you also note that the smoldering resentment in her eyes has been completely replaced by a somewhat befuddled grin.
Erolith accepts the new glass of elven wine but decides not to partake any more libations. The abundance of alcohol, the properties of the smoke, and the reactions of our hosts have suddenly put him on alert, although it may be nothing.
I’d like to scan our surroundings and pay closer attention to Myrine and Mr. Leewamba for anything out of the ordinary.
"Elvish wine would be lovely if you have it. Or if you have anything particularly rare, I'm loathe to say no to the opportunity to try something new to me."

The text iin the page the link led me to is as follows:
and alsotothereforethus:
So if anything particularly strikes anyone about the new content I would be glad to pass on your feedback with curmudgeonly honesty. For instance, my first comment was:
Um ... so you're telling me it's ADDING flexibility to a bard to limit them by making them pick only one out of three types of magic at first level?
Hmmmm ... must be some kind of mass confusion effect operating on me ...can't quite seem to see the doubtlessly crystal-clear and un[ condition]obscured[ /condition] logic in that ...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Im okay not using the new rules for the monk, it is my first time trying the monk class so i would like to try it with the original rules first, but thanks for the offer.

Tarton says, "If we're playing games of chance, then I will have to be a spectator unless a crowbar will do in place of coins."
