This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The Nothic gazes intently at Leek who's flesh suddenly darkens. The veins and arteries darken to black as the skin dries up. Layers of flesh flake off, like a snake molting.
(Leek takes 9 necrotic damage.)
As the Nothic is peering intently at Leek, Kitryn uses the opportunity to stab both short swords into the torso. Rindelk peeks around the corner again and lobs a firebolt, hitting the stationary creature in the large eye, causing it to pop like a ripe pimple. The Nothic falls to the ground writhing and thrashing, causing further internal damage from Kitryn's embedded short swords. Not long after, it seems to cause terminal damage to itself, it seizes up and stops moving altogether.
(I've applied damage to Leek already. He still stands, but he looks gravely injured.)
Hey GM. Did you apply the damage? I'm still at 12. By my calculations I should be at 6. (1+5 cure wounds). Am I wrong about that?
Leek is thankful for the healing rub...
I want to check to make sure Droop didn't take off. If he is still there, I will say to him "See. We kill dangerous creatures easily. You have powerful new masters now."
The chest is closed. In order to find out if it is locked or not, you have to try to open it, or perform an Investigation check.
Leek has 6 hp after the healing. (Sorry, I tracked the HP in Roll20, not in DnDBeyond (DDB). Once DDB implements encounter tracking, I'll be able to do everything here. But until then...)
You each get 90XP for killing the Nothic.
Rindelk sits, feet dangling into the crevasse as he takes notes and sketches the Nothic into his journal. Leek, looking better after the healing, checks in on Droop, who is crouched on the ground with hands over his eyes. He hasn't moved and is still not peeking through his fingers now that silence has settled.
(Just following the process. But lets move things along.)
Elila grows impatient watching Kitryn fool around with the closed chest. She walks over and tries to prop the lid open with her boot. It opens and... nothing happens.
Inside you find two familiar vials of red liquid (potion of healing), an unidentified scroll, 160sp, 120gp, five malachite gems (15gp each) and a pristine gleaming longsword.
The longsword is inscribed with the name "Talon" and its hilt is worked in the shape of a bird of prey with outspread wings.
(Pick someone to perform a history check with help to identify the sword).
(Anyone proficient in Arcana can try to identify the scroll).
My many years of hermitage have allowed me to educate myself on many aspects of history and arcana (+3 in each) so I can make the rolls if people wish.

What do you do now?
I move closer to the Nothic to inspect the body. I gather first hand information regarding this creature and jot it down in my notes.
I also want to see what magical items might be available.
Kat moves down to cast cure wounds on Leek.
Cure wounds - 5
Your detect magic spell lets you know that there is something under the little bridge. You find a chest. It is closed.
Is the chest locked?
If not, I want to back away from the chest and let elila open said chest. :)

And how much XP each?

'master Leek, perhaps you should finish your berries, you still look worse than normal'
Alright, I'll help investigation on the chest. Was that advantage roll or bonus modified?
It's 1d20 + the skill modifier on your sheet for "Investigation".
You roll once for each:
This is to try and discern without just trying to open it and potentially triggering a trap (if one is installed).
lets look for traps first
5
really?!..
'well, clearly its not trapped.. lets see if its locked'

ooc. wow.. and there's the pendulum swinging back from those great combat rolls
now would be a great time for someone to 'help' and reroll those.. +3 mod established

Plus, how many berries do I have left GM?
And separating booty we get 32 sp each and 24 gp each and 1 gem each (15 gp)
You should have 5 berries left.
Rindelk does a history check on the sword - 7
Elila eyes the sword, "Well well, I fancy that will help me lop off a head or two!"
If everyone agrees, she can use the sword?
Kat does a history check on the sword - 20
Kat says, "This looks VERY interesting indeed." she goes on to share information with the group regarding the blade.
"You youngsters know nothing of the world. Let one who has lived history tell you the history."
History: 17
Arcana: 4
And I will eat 5 berries while I'm analysing the stuff.
