I am the one that slew Klarg! If you want his head you can fetch it yourself. It can be found down the chimney shaft in his lair. That might however prove very perilous and not without great risk to yourself if you so wish to fetch his head as proof. His failure to protect Cragmaw Hideout should be enough to make Yeemik the leader.
Yeemik hears a voice but can't see who is speaking and ignores it, "No! Goblins stay with hostage. You get Klarg head to save hostage. Then hostage live."
Then the hostage speaks out faintly, never lifting his head or opening his swollen eyes, "Never trust a goblin." Yeemik answers him with a violent shake and an order, "Stay quiet!"
"If you create an image of an object--such as a chair, muddy footprints, or a small chest--it must be no larger than a 5-foot cube. The image can't create sound, light, smell, or any other sensory effect. Physical interaction with the image reveals it to be an illusion, because things can pass through it."
I'm far away, so it would be hard for him to "examine" the object or to perceive that it isn't his head. (I mean, it is kind of dark, right?)
Leek walks out of the cave structure for a few minutes and reenters. Keeping to a more shadowy area of the tunnel, he lifts up his arm and casts minor illusion at the end of it, making it look like he is holding Klarg's beaten and bloody head. When there is a pause in the incessant back and forth between the goblin and the elf, Leek yells out "I have his head! Is this proof enough for you? We will trade it for the human. Bring him down here safely and we will give it to you."

You walked out of the cave structure, so Yeemik doesn't see you casting. That's the first check that you pass. You were only gone for a couple minutes, and never spoke to Yeemik to say you'd go fetch the head, so it's a huge coincidence that you are carrying the head he was asking for. Yeemik will roll to see if he's suspicious. I'll make it a DC 10, since it is something he really wants.
Upon seeing the image of Klarg's head, Yeemik almost does a little dance he's so excited. He backs up from the edge and lets go of the hostage, leaving him up on the top platform. He runs down the steps and up to Kitryn who is blocking his way to Leek. Yeemik squints, then satisfied, offers, "50 gold for hostage. Then leave Cragmaw Hideout and not come back!"

Kitryn has been quiet through the exchange of words since her initial retort but her stance has not relaxed.
if one were to follow the blood from the gash on her shoulder as it snakes down her arm to drip on the floor, you could perhaps notice the tendons of her hand tense.

OOC: Discussed this with Kitryn. Since Yeemik moved and repositioned himself, that broke the old initiative order. Therefore restarting combat is a new initiative order. Kitryn wants to attack suddenly, so first round is between him and Yeemik. Then everyone else joins in.
Yeemik, wary of your party and not truly trusting, is ready to react when Kitryn begins to make an aggressive move. He attempts to shove Kitryn with a two handed push, then turns to run to the back of the cavern, all the while saying, "Betrayed! Trust not worthy! Kill them, kill them. The hostage dies and we eat well tonight!"
Mechanics:
Shoving a Creature
Using the Attack action, you can make a special melee attack to shove a creature, either to knock it prone or push it away from you. If you're able to make multiple attacks with the Attack action, this attack replaces one of them.
The target must be no more than one size larger than you and must be within your reach. Instead of making an attack roll, you make a Strength (Athletics) check contested by the target's Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check (the target chooses the ability to use). If you win the contest, you either knock the target prone or push it 5 feet away from you.
Yeemik's Athletics check to Shove Kitryn back 5 feet: 11
Kitryn can contest using either Acrobatics or Athletics. If Kitryn beats Yeemik, Yemmik will turn around an run to the hostage, giving Kitryn an attack of opportunity.
If Kitryn fails the contest, Kitryn moves back 5 feet, doesn't get an attack of opportunity.
Then it will be Kitryn's turn either way. Once Kitryn goes, everyone else rolls initiative and we restart from the top.
Kitryn, impatient with Yeemik's greed, decides to launch an attack. However Yeemik reads her intentions somehow and gives a hard shove, sending Kitryn back a few steps. With this opening, Yeemik, being more of a boss than a leader, retreats back towards the natural stair up to the second level, yelling "Kill them and we eat hostage tonight!"
OOC: Kitryn gets a full turn (movement, action, bonus action) before the full initiative starts from the top.
Feel free to roll initiative if you haven't. I'll post again tomorrow evening, and I will roll initiative for whoever hasn't by that time.
The large goblin immediately bursts out, "Klarg dead!? Prove. Bring Klarg head. King Grol have to make Yeemik leader of Cragmaw Hideout."

GM, Can I use minor illusion to create Klarg's head? I could hold it up and show it to him.

You can certainly try.
