thank you the use of holy water probably couldn’t hurt i am curious to see if it helps
If I may beg your indulgence before we head up North I’d like a few hours at least to investigate the case of the locked door back at my inn. The 9 fingered wizard we found in the pile-o-corpses left his room magically locked. I’ve told the innkeeper I’d help open the door. If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. It might be amusing. Diverting, certainly.
We seem to have been thwarted by doors lately, huh. I'm happy to give you a hand. Is there an outside window you could crawl through? Hit it with something large and pointy?
“There is an open window, but I’d like to try a new spell out on the door, first. I’m grateful for the help, as I am not sure what we’ll find when we either open the door or get in through the window. At the very least, we may gain the gratitude of the innkeeper.”
Starker heads to the inn with Chadwick and whoever else cares to join and tells the innkeeper he has a new plan. Then up to the room and “Knock” on the door.
Starker heads upstairs to the unopenable door. After uttering a brief incantation a loud KNOCK of knuckles on a wooden door. The door unlatches and gently swings ajar.
The innkeeper lets out a loud gasp of surprise. “We should go in.,.” he moves to walk into the room.
“I saw the room through holes in the ceiling. There was a chest that my Unseen Servant couldn’t open. Pray hold a moment til I see if there is any more mayic afoot
Starker looks in the room and performs the Detect Magic ritual.
The room is a standard room for the inn. There is a bed, table with two chairs and pegs set in the wall for clothes. At the end of the bed is a personal steamer trunk. The trunk has a latch mechanism, two handles and a lock. A brass plate below the lock/latch mechanism is engraved with a coat of arms. This depicts a maple tree with two orbs suspended from the lower branches. Under the tree are two books topped with crowns. It is the same as that depicted on the ring you found in the dragon’s treasure. ( see Found Signet Ring in inventory )
“Innkeeper, this wizard was involved with an evil organization and I am not certain it is safe to open the trunk here. Do you mind if my strong colleague and I bring it to Arnak’s tower? Rest assured that if the trunk contains money it will be used to pay you for any delinquent rent or other debts to you held by your former tenant. ”
”Chadwick, are any of your friends in town knowledgable enough about traps to be able to detect their presence? If so perhaps we should ask them to join us. Or [aside so that the innkeeper can’t hear] do you think it too dangerous to move it?”
while Chadwick and the innkeeper ponder Starker and Cyrus Magnus will look about the room and investigate for any hidden or otherwise interesting items. The monkey will mostly be looking for pineapple.
The room is clean, fastidiously so. There is a fine layer of dust coating everything flat. Only a few rat tracks are seen, much fewer than you have seen in your rooms. Sadly, no pineapple is found.
'Hoid has been impressive being able to bypass locks and such, but I don't think his skills extend to finding traps. Either way I think he would be most likely of us to be able to open it without the use of brute force. If that fails, chucking it out the window would probably work."
Chadwick will also assist in searching the room. Checking under the mattress and so forth.
Due to the asynchronous play style, I'm going to go ahead and post this now and we can circle back to it once we're all together.
"I think we should consider donating a portion of the dragons hoard to the families of the fallen townsfolk. We couldn't help do anything about the cowardly and brazen attack on the town, but at least we could assist the families devasted by the loss of their loved ones. We can talk with Bessia to see if there is already a collection we can donate to."
Chadwick will inquire what became of the horses that the party rode down from the Balder ranch. (Putting his actions here since it seemed more appropriate than the OOC discussion)
The classic thieves' abilities (open locks, find traps, move silently, etc.) are no longer restricted to the Rogue class. Anyone can do them. An appropriate skill check is made to accomplish this. Investigation to find traps, Sleight of Hands to pick pockets, etc. If you are proficient in the skill you get to add your proficiency bonus to the check. If you are proficient with Thieves' Tools and are using them, you get to add your proficiency bonus in that situation. So, in the above example, Chadwick or Starker can each search for traps and try to disarm any found traps.

Gneuman has thieves tools and a decent dex. He can try to be useful here.
As for healing potions, Hoid gets the equivalent as a bonus action every short rest. He has no potions or holy water. If he had any, they were removed in a weight purge.

No Magic is detected
“All clear. Shall we?”
Starker heads in. If nothing untoward happens he heads towards the chest and attempts to open it.

Kragen has the magical ability to Find Traps, however he would need a day to learn and then commit to memory.
Latest share of treasure: 705cp, 580sp, 30gp and Citrine 50g, 2 x Zircon 50g, 2 x Blue Jasper 50g, Potion - Healing
Split 6 ways looks like: 117cp, 96sp, 5gp plus one gem/potion each.
Chadwick will donate his share of the coins to the Temple to assist those impacted by the raid.
Does anyone not have a potion of healing? Chadwick already has one so he'll pass.
