We can either dispatch the wolves at range, cast sleep, or leave them be. Leaving them runs the risk of someone coming in behind us and letting them loose. I feel them being let loose is probably low risk, but a risk nonetheless.
What is the consensus?
I am in favor of dispatching the wolves, although not ideal, they are too big of a risk.
I agree with Erbert. Unless they start howling so loud to be heard over the water, the threat seems manageable while they are chained up.
Trolkarl would love to see Chadwick domesticate these things to track the scent of fleeing half-orc warlocks. But is really skeptical of interacting with them at all, let alone trying to calm them down. Keeping a safe distance and hope that this doesn't end up becoming a future "back in the day I had 2 more fingers" story.
It seems like the general consensus is to move along unless Chadwick is the Wolf Whisperer (which would make a third title and worthy of an entry in the tales of derring do).
Let's move on if we can't decide. Although we run the risk of having to deal with them in the future at an inopportune time. Our GM will take every advantage we leave him!
Chadwick moves to calm the wolves with body language since quiet words really will not work here. They stop their snarling a growling. They remain alert and standing. They are no longer overly hostile, but, not your friends either.
The main passage from the cave mouth climbs steeply upward, the stream plunging and splashing down its west side. In the shadows, a side passage leads west across the other side of the stream.
For Chadwick:
It is dark. You can see nothing. The roar of the water ahead fills your ears.
Once we get a light for Chadwick, should we move him to the back of the marching order to minimize the light announcing our presence?
Should we investigate the branch to the left? Maybe send one non-Chadwick a little way down the passage to look for unsavory characters? Hoid is willing.

I can cast light on Chadwicks shield to provide him adequate illumination, when we are ready.
I recommend we clear to the west first, preventing one less option for possible rear engagement from an enemy when we work the main passage.
Hoid climbs the debris up to the first landing. Moving onto the landing then releases the entire thing, sending him crashing down the debris back to the edge of the stream. He is knocked about in the slide but manages to regain his feet taking 5 damage in the process.

Nice! Three different votes! I am in favor of leaving them chained. Hoid wants to introduce his sword to Craddock the Coward.

Erbert turns to Chadwick and says, “Do you know how to be the “Pack Leader”? ((said with accent)). “If no, let’s leave them be.”
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
I moved Hoid to the edge of the known universe.

For all but Chadwick:

Sorry, I was unavoidably detained.
My (late) opinion, for what it's worth:
- Leave the wolves behind.
- Continue into the cave.

Agree with Hoid's reconnoiter to the west first.
I concur with the concurrence.
Hoid reconnoiters the side passage.
The passage turns to the left. There is loose, rocky debris sloping up to a first landing. Then, more debris sloping up to a second landing.
Hoid will look carefully around the corners at the second landing, first right, then left.
Hoid climbs the debris up to the first landing. Moving onto the landing then releases the entire thing, sending him crashing down the debris back to the edge of the stream. He is knocked about in the slide but manages to regain his feet taking 5 damage in the process.
Can we tell if it was a deliberate trap, or just shoddy cave building?
Not sure if we should check out bridge area, or continue this way since the trap(possibly) has already been sprung.
Is the debris scalable without tools or too loose?
You can climb the debris as difficult terrain. Hard to say if this was intentional or natural.
