Avoiding the creek, Girym leads you up the center or the crag. The sounds of the forest are replaced by the echo of running water and your footsteps, and the temperature drops noticeably. To the right, natural rocks make a stairway up to a darkened den, where you can see at least one hound sleeping. A path within a crag to left ascends so steeply that you wonder whether it was intended as a path at all. Without warning, a gravely voice calls out from above, belonging to a goblin dangling his feet from a makeshift wooden platform 20 ft up that spans the width of the tunnel.
"Hey, Girym! Who's following you!?"
"Coldfeets. They didn't want to mess with the people who attacked us yesterday."
"I know a coldfeet that turns cloak every time someone points a fork at his throat! ATTAAAACK!" the goblin shouts at the top of his lungs. While sitting on the platform he has 1/2 cover and advantage against ranged attacks for being prone, so while you can attempt to silence him before he shouts 'attack' a ranged attack probably won't work.

"I knew you were useless," says the wizard as he realizes the lie did not work. He waves his hands yet again, throwing glowing darts of a Magic Missile at the goblin about to scream.
It hits, regardless of cover because of course it does.
The goblin cuts off mid sentence and slumps backward quietly as its wounds steam. You are about to set off again when the echo of splashing footsteps alerts you to the presence of a tiefling at the opening of the cave. Someone has followed you and hoped to use your brief exchange with the goblin to sneak closer.
Lights still surrounding the party shift in a heartbeat, illuminating the direction stranger approaches from. Richard spots the tiefling and raises his hand, prepared to let another spell fly, if needed.
"Stop right there! Who are you and what are you doing here?"
I guess, but there's really little point to it. We could just as easily roleplay her introduction with DM acting in her stead, and if she doesn't show in a few days and there's no word, Richard could push her off a cliff. Or she could just fall on her own, if you think he has done enough already.
"Richard I sometimes feel like me and you are the only two here that has any thoughts in there heads. Regardless we should be cautious. They do not expect us here but we no longer have a guide."
Vallia is still in the entrance, but there are more pressing matters at hand. Richard's question was loud enough to be posed to the entire dungeon, and it is answered by someone you would rather have met with the element of surprise.
"Friends call me Gorelaw Trollbreaker! I break trolls for this here outfit. The question is, what are you doin' comin' in here and shooting up sentries?"
The shout comes from further up the cavern, just around a bend that the stream flow out of. A towering bugbear steps into the edge of the dancing lights. Besides a massive, graven horn slung over his back, he wears a longsword sheathed next to a blue painted yew staff. Girym shrieks and runs.
"Comrades, TO ARMS! AAAARMS COMRADES!" he roars. You hear confused shouts from connecting passages. It seems you momentarily have the upper hand while the inhabitants organize, but you hope Girym wasn't deceiving you when he said most of the gang's fighters were in the watchtower.
Harek tries to grab Girym before he runs away from the group. Sleight of Hand? : 9
"Remember your oath or you will face the wrath of Maglubiyet after this life. Stay behind me and keep close."
Harek readies his warhammer and shield and quickly advances down the tunnel to the Bugbear trying to strike him before he can ready his longsword. Attack: 21 Damage: 8

Gorelaw makes no attempt to dodge and braces himself against the missiles' impact. Quick on the draw, he unsheathes his colored staff and points at Richard.
"Flashing lights cannot stop me, bathe in the fires of the fiend!" The air around Richard combusts into the flames.
Hellish Rebuke: 8 fire damage. A DC 13 dex save will half the damage you take.
Richard's dex save: 9 (made with advantage because you are standing in a stream)

Before Gorelaw can draw his sword, Harek plows into him, landing a well placed cut. You will need more than 2 people in this fight, so if EatMoarWaffles does not post, Ander will charge with Harek and perform the following attack.
Longsword: 13 Damage: 8
Gorelaw's AC is 12 and he has 19 HP before factoring in Ander's attack.
(Btw, Hellish Rebuke is a reaction so Gorelaw still gets a turn)
Rather than responding to your attacks, Gorelaw disengages and barrels toward the mouth of the cave, his blood running in the water. He unslings his horn and raises it to his lips, emitting a groaning blast that echoes from the cliffs and is near deafening to you in the cave.
Okay, bugbears are not spellcasters, not typically. Don't you think that we should've been warned?
Also, is Valia in or out? How many of us are playing?
And more importantly, the math doesn't add up. The bugbear has 27 HP, as a rule. Magic missile did 10 damage, which makes it 17. Harek attack makes it 17-8=9, not 19. Ander deals 11 points of damage, bugbears dead and gone.

"I also have a marvelous beard, not that anyone has noticed," wizard replies. "Yes, you're right. But I'm unsure how much more cautious can we get."

[He got shot for lying poorly, at least I was under the assumption he did]
(The goblin is still with you, and ZeldaLover is okay with playing from the part where you guys saw Vallia sneaking up.)
(It doesn't look like anyone shot him yet. If you want to, go ahead.)

Richard rolls his eyes. Why did I need to shout again?, he thinks to himself, preparing to cast.
He aims at bugbear and releases three glowing darts of Magic Missile.
