(The color leaves Rickard's face when Vokrul mentions the possibility of the Goblins killing Bess, but he is then distracted by the barrage of questions from the party. When it becomes clear that the party is willing to help, a smile appears for the first time.)
"Thank you! Bless you all!"
(The grateful Blacksmith goes around thanking the adventurers, alternately hugging and enthusiastically shaking the hands of the brave party who has agreed to help him. He thinks for a moment before speaking.)
"I don't really know how long ago it was, probably not long, but I don't know how long I was unconscious. As far as where they could have taken her... I haven't got a clue. I mean, I didn't even know there were goblins in these parts. I'm pretty sure there's a dead goblin in my workshop, maybe we can figure out where they went if we go back there?"
(He looks at you all expectantly. Willfred chimes in.)
"Nothing like this has happened around here for a long time. Last I can remember was maybe, 20, 25 years ago? Even then, I think it was more of Goblins attacking travelers up the road, not kidnapping little girls. There hasn't been any Goblin sightings around here since, that I can recall."
DM's note: If you'd like to do anything before heading to Rickard's shop go ahead and RP, otherwise I'll just assume you all follow him there.
Vokrul walks over to the table, slings his cross bow and pack across his back, picks up his morning start and shield and follows the blacksmith out. As he leaves he mutters "I hate goblins" he starts humming an old war song in dwarfish.
Cleo returned Rickard's hug and gave him a reassuring pat on the arm.
"We'll do everything in our power to bring your beloved Bess home, safe and sound."
She makes sure that both her shield and mace are securely fastened on her chainmail before following the blacksmith and the rest of the group out of the door and onto the streets of Calla. While Cleo is well aware of where Rickard resides she falls into step behind him, making sure to keep an eye on their surroundings while doing so.
Quorthon follows but lags behind a bit, pulling Vokrul to the side. Under his smoky breath he says, “ Less vengeance talk. We will rescue this girl, and if we don’t, let him have hope for this time.”
Some flames still rage arround his hair, but knowing there's nothing they can do for now he forced himself to become calm.
"Goblins don't usually kidnap, indeed, it may be the work of a smarter hobgoblin, or, and I hoppe not, something worse."
He gets on the way along with the party. Hearing Quorthon's talk to Vokrul.
"Let him have hope, but let him be ready for the worst as well."
With this he follows on the path
OOC: tomorrow it may be hard for me to come on the forum, I may be unable to post as such, but I will try to. When my character arrives in the place I will cast detect magic on the goblin's corpse if it's still there.
OOC #2 @DM: Swiched the more powerful and offensive Poison spray to detect magic, for aditional utility and to be more RP friendly, I had put that spell more for a kind of offensive variety and optimization (I want to be a fire thiefling with some aditional non combat spells, while he's only a lvl1 sorcerer). If this is incompatible with the plot you had planned I can switch back, and ignore my previous OOC as such.
(The party follows Rickard to his workshop on the North edge of town. The signs of a struggle are everywhere: Broken pots litter the floor, splintered chairs and tables, etc. A goblin lays dead on the floor, a poker thus his chest. The layout of his workshop is roughly as shown:
"Well, here it is. I haven't really had a chance to look things over, I went for help as soon as I came to."
DM's Note: You are free to look around. A little note about Spoilers: When you get a spoiler, keep in mind that this is information only you know. It's up to you to convey that information to the rest of your party. If you don't tell them, they don't know.
Also, remember, if you're going to roll, the difference between Perception (I look and see...) and Investigation (I see and deduce...). You have to be specific about what you're looking at when you make an Investigation roll. You can't just say, "I Investigate the room." You have to say, for example, "I Investigate the Workbench." When you roll, make sure to add your modifiers. Look at your Character Sheet under Skills and add the number to your roll.
Sorry for the crappy Paint drawing, it's not to scale or anything, it's just meant to give you all a rough idea of how everything is set up. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I want to make sure stuff is clear for you guys.
If you have any questions about how to use the roller or anything else, please ask, I'll try to make it clear.
OOC: No problem, Sklin'oth. I'll give you all a little more latitude on the weekends.
"it is not talk of vengeance talking about my friend, just a age old rivalry between my kind and there's, but you are right we should let the man have his hope, as he said she is all he has"
Vokrul stays outside as the other enter and looks for tracks
Quorthon lets the others look around as he tries to speak again with the victim, pulling him aside.
"This will be easier for us if you have any more details that you can remember from the incident. Did they say anything you could understand? Did they seem to be going for her in particular? Has there been any other myseterious missing persons lately? Is anything else missing?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Going into directly into the goblin's corpse Sklin'oth casts Detect Magic.
"I've seen my kind use lower beeings before, better be safe than sorry."
He then directs himself to try discovering what can be known about it.
Insight 6
Investigation 18
He then directs himself to Rickard and Quorthon to see what else the group knows and share what he may have discovered. Dice roll seems failing how did you roll?
OOC: not sure if insight or investigation is the correct one so using both as think both fit here.
(Cleo looks around the floor of the workshop for clues. She sees a bunch of broken pottery, a broken chair, and the dead Goblin's rusty Shortsword laying next to him. There's a bunch of scuffs that seem to be from their tracks, but they're so close together you can't really figure out much from them.)
DMs note: Vokrul, since you stated you stayed outside, I'm assuming you're investigating the area near where the diagram says 'Main Entrance coming from town.' If that's not what you meant, please let me know.
(Vokrul stays outside the workshop, letting everyone enter in front of him. He looks for tracks or some sort of clues around the area, but doesn't find anything out of the ordinary, just normal tracks, probably made by Rickard when he was going to get help.)
(Quorthon asks Rickard a few questions to follow up. He looks around to see if anything seems out of place.)
"Bess was playing in the living quarters while I was working in the Workshop when they came in from the back entrance and swarmed on me. I fought them off as much as I could, but they were too much. I don't know what they were looking for. No, nobody else around has gone missing and nothing seems to be missing from the workshop. I didn't have much in there to begin with."
(Sklin'oth casts Detect Magic on the Goblin corpse. Nothing on the Goblins seems to have had any magical properties. He investigates the corpse: The goblin looks like he was fairly young. He looks and finds 5 CP, a button, a shiny rock, a rusty dagger and the ratty leather armor he was wearing.)
DMs note: Just FYI, Insight is more to determine if someone is lying to you, hiding something, etc. Didn't really apply here.
(Sturm casts Divine Sense in the area. It senses that the Goblin was evil, but doesn't find anything or anyone else evil in the area.)
Quorthon takes in all the information from the rest of the group.
"It seems we have hit a small dead end. There must be some rumors about a goblin hideout in the woods or something!" Tell us Rickard, anything at all that could be useful!"
"No, no rumors like that. This shop is right around the edge of town. Behind my home is the Boar's Woods. But there's not really much there except trees, maybe a couple of wild boars."
(Meanwhile, Cleo searches around the rear pen area. After some investigating, she finds the tracks in the back leading to a broken gate. You can tell that is where the Goblins entered.)
Spoiler for Cleo:
You think you see something strange. It looks like there's 6 goblin tracks coming in, but there's 5 goblin tracks heading out along with 1 set of human tracks.
“We must go as quickly as possible. By the gods we will find your girl and slay every last of those wretched creatures!”
