I was checking HP occasionally but must’ve completely missed your big hit, by bad man.
As for introductions, I’m Joseph. Live in the Tampa area of Florida 😎 I’m a forever DM specializing in the ravenloft setting. Currently running two Curse of Strahd games at my table with some great friends, and starting a House of Lament PBP on here. I also have a business called Magically Made where I make luxury hardwood tabletop RPG accessories. My wife is a successful tattoo artist 😎 if you can stalk me enough with that information to actually find my socials or anything at least say hi 👋
my character, Dorn, is inspired by the Spanish Conquistadors if you haven’t picked up on that yet. He’s new to the whole conquest vibe as he was training to become a priest before the death of his brother so he’s still acclimating to it all.
Hello. As for introductions, my name is Eric and I've only been playing for a few months, big fan of the Dungeons of Drakkenheim series with the dungeon dudes (If we finish this campaign and would like to run another one together, I highly recommend Drakkenheim.) Currently living in California, (which is why our posting times are off.) I'm currently starting college classes at Sierra College. Have DM'd a couple games already and am a huge fan of RP-heavy, combat-heavy games. Can't wait to get deeper into this story!
I'm Shawn! I live in NY. I lived in CA for about 1.5 years (LA) a decade and a half ago :) Never lived in FL but I have family in Tampa, so visit often. I'm married, one kid in high school, two cats.
Played some D&D when I was young and some 3.5 two or so decades ago :) I've been playing 5e for 6+ years now, mostly as a DM, but also as a player, with friends, some in person but mostly online with Roll20. I started 5e DM'ing LMOP for some friends and our kids. We left the kids behind after that and went adults only! :)
I'll paraphrase the rules from the DMG on identifying magic items (pg 196).
Simply handling the item is enough to give a character a sense that something is extraordinary about it.
Discovering a magic item's properties isn't automatic, however.
You may:
Cast identify. Thisspell is the fastest way to reveal an item's properties.
Alternatively, a character can focus on one magic item during a short rest, while being in physical contact with the item. At the end of the rest, the character learns the item's properties, as well as how to use them.
Potions are an exception to the above; a little taste is enough to tell the taster what the potion does.
Lastly, wearing or experimenting with the item can also offer hints about its properties. For example, if a character puts on a ring of jumping, I might say, "Your steps feel strangely springy."
The first chamber, the one with the collapsed ceiling had three exits. A stone door, a solid looking wooden door, and an archway to the next chamber where you guys encountered the cultists.
The summoning chamber also has three exits. The archway you entered through, and then also two stout wooden doors.
The map is on the bottom of page 2 if you want to see all the doors. I say we open the two in our current room first. Volneer will choose which one gets burned. :) Then go back to the entry chamber and it's doors.
"Not sure what you would roll for this assistance. "
The action is called help. When used, one character declares the help action and another character gets to roll an ability check with advantage.
Specific to this instance of opening a stuck door, a crowbar would also be useful because using a crowbar grants advantage to Strength checks when the crowbar's leverage can be applied.
Ok, I am an Episcopal Priest in my 40s in Baltimore, MD. I have a 12 year old and a 1.5 year old and really just wanted a place to escape to some fantasy and foolishness during short breaks in the day. I have been running several campaigns within the church community since COVID and it really brought out all of the nerd self-love. We then started running campaigns for kids and I run an after school program and will do the second year of a summer camp this summer. I love RPing for so many reasons. It can be fast paced, soulful and bonds people together. My wife is not so into the old RPing and has been encouraging me to find an online game with people where I don't also need to worry about their emotional needs. So, here I am.
By the way, you have no worries with me around language or topics. I'm plenty irreverent and don't give two shits about swearing. Sometimes people worry and I wanted to dispel that idea quick.
My characters in past campaigns have been just like me...the opposite of me...big brassy to conniving. I like the fact that I am not quite sure about Calim yet. I can't hide behind a silly voice or accent. This is going to be fun.
Oh, and I used to be an actor. So, I did a lot of hiding behind silly accents.

Not specifically, no.

Nice to meet you all!
How do you handle potion detection? Can we taste, roll arcana, etc.

You may:
For the current scene, which door is being pried open, and which door is being destroyed?
I’ll defer to volneer on this one and take the one he is not choosing. There was one door in the summoning room and two in the main chamber correct?
The first chamber, the one with the collapsed ceiling had three exits. A stone door, a solid looking wooden door, and an archway to the next chamber where you guys encountered the cultists.
The summoning chamber also has three exits. The archway you entered through, and then also two stout wooden doors.

The door to the left (facing into the room from the archway) gets burned. The other is opened by Dorn as far as I can tell.

Right now, here is what I have for loot being taken:
Volneer: Summoning supplies, Scroll of Darkness, Potion of Acid Resistance
Kneecap: Potion of Acid Resistance, the three rare tomes.
As it turns out, both Volneer and Kneecap mentioned taking the potion in the IC thread.
Who gets it?
Ah, I think Volneer mentioned it first, he can hold it.
Cool. Those items have been added to your sheets.
"Oh, he wanted to study the books. I guess that works though."
The books had already been reviewed, I misunderstood. In any event, you guys have searched this room thoroughly.
