When Grappling a creature no larger than one size larger than me, I should be able to carry or drag them at half-speed
This is not a grapple. The same rules will apply from the last time Dorn dragged someone.
You may push/drag a weight not exceeding STRx30, and if the weight exceeds STRx15 then the movement drops to 5'.
If we say Aria weighs 120# and is equipped with fine clothes (6#), breastplate armor (20#) and a rapier (2#), we are talking about dragging 148# to safety.
But I’m specifically asking to grapple? I would like to use the grapple action to grapple an unconscious person? Grappling a conscious person is the same as an unconscious person from the grapplers end. The only difference is the one who’s unconscious is subject to the unconscious condition

I don’t want to go back and forth so here’s my 2 cents:
Grappling rules apply to creatures. Creatures are alive (or undead). Grappling can be applied to any creature given the rules of grappling which are defined as:
-no more than one size larger than you
-within reach
-succeeding a strength contest
when you successfully make a grapple in this way, and choose to move the creature, the following rules apply:
-drag or carry up to half speed unless the creature is two sizes smaller than you-minimum
this indicates I can grapple any creature whether they are blind, stunned, incapacitated, unconscious, or afflicted with any particular condition.
the rules are different concerning dead creatures, which are then no longer considered creatures, but objects. With an object, your rules apply, along with plenty of other rules like being able to occupy the same space as a dead creature or object.
using /dead/ creature rules for dragging or carrying a creature but using /living/ creature rules to not allow me to occupy the same space as I’m carrying them is double jeopardy.
that’s my peace, so let me know your rules on this and I’ll adjust my actions accordingly
Bonus XP, 100XP (for messing up the 'save to end paralyzation' and making the encounter harder than it needed to be. Grimlock x2, 50XP ea. Violet Fungus x2, 50XP ea. Ghoul, 200XP Gray Ooze, 100XP 600XP / 5 characters = 120XP each.

After Ghoul Cultist encounter:
Aria - 0/9hp, [Breast Plate AC13 & Rapier -1 dmg due to corrosion]
Calim - 10/12hp, Inspired, [hand axe -1 dmg due to corrosion]
Dorn - 10/12hp, Lay on Hands 4/5 used, Luck Points 3/3 used
Leveling up can happen immediately [set new hp max, gain new class abilities] but things that are reset via short or long rests and such [spells per day, redesignating prepared spells, etc ] will have to wait until completing the appropriate rest period.
EDIT — This ended up being too confusing. Leveling between 1st and 2nd level will be the only instance of leveling in this fashion. For all subsequent levels, leveling up will only occur in conjunction with a long rest.
So, what are your feelings around leveling mid-dungeon? How do you like us to roll our hit dice, any preferences around that? We are still babies, I'm sure this will all come up organically. But, do you want us to have narrative driven leveling? Should we describe how it is that our characters can now do more and cooler things? What are your thoughts?
And thank you for the extra 100. haha. Calim was just loving his introspective nap.

Attacking the ooze ended this reprieve.
Kneecap gets Lesser Restoration at level 3. I don't think Dorn gets it until level 5, unless its part of his Order features.
Volneeerrr why attack the ooze 😭
I can totally get on board.
There's something to be said for winning (or losing) an encounter on your own terms.
I'm trying to get it's attention away from everyone else so you guys can do healer stuff.

It was distracted on eating the ghoul for three rounds 😏

"Volneer moves as far away from Dorn and the rest of the party as possible while moving away from the ooze ..."
Please specify, back into the hall or farther into the room?
Also, I am going to nix the persuasion attempt, and act as if it was not attempted.
This ooze (INT 1) isn't a creature that would be responsive to or even comprehend someone displaying tact, social graces, or proper etiquette.
An argument could be made for Wisdom (Animal Handling) ... but it would take an action.
Farther into the room, also, my only goal was to make it more angry at me, I'm sure it's smart enough to get mad at me for attacking it, right?

Thanks all, let's see if old Calim can prove his value at the end of this encounter.

It sure seemed like a back and forth.

As a sorcerer, Volneer will get a new spell at lvl 2, can I choose that now?

DM: Are you updating our sheets with XP or should we be?
I see XP on my sheet from the first fight, but don't remember if I did it or you did :) I think I did.
Totally!
