Valar sits at the foot of Araevos/Tyr and feels a light shine through him, as though the god is about to Bless him. But at the last moment a feeling of unease passes over him and he feels his attention brought towards a spot behind the statue. He sees a trapdoor pulled open, and feels a great sense of foreboding emanating from the hole. Stairs go down into the basement of the church, and all you see is darkness beyond them. You'll have to commit to exploring the basement of the church to find out what's down there.
Valar will go to the door of the church, and call to the group. "I found a passageway in here that goes down, could use some back up to see what is down there."
Draíocht approaches, staff in hand and shield donned. "What have you sensed?" he asks. He casts guidance, asking the nature of this area to keep them aware of any threats.
Perception: min(19,4) + 8 + 3 = 15 //rolled with disadvantage just in case we don't light a torch as I assume it's darkness; not sure if your preference is to take the left or right when taking a adv/dis roll and flattening it to a straight roll
(Just quickly, you've already defeated the undead corpse of Wrorak g'Ruek back in the mine. The Specter escaped that fight to warn The Eaters of your approach.)
Draíocht looks into the hole and sees a basement room with an underground pool down there, and you hear a chattering noise and the shlop of water. Additionally, you see a humanoid figure bundled up in a corner of the room, it's not currently moving.
As Amiz heads down into the basement he doesn't see the figure that rises out of the water, but the rest of you do. Two large claws, followed by the head of a Large creature, crustacean looking. It makes a chattering sound with it's tentacled mouth and makes a loud whirring noise as Amiz enters the room and charges him with four large legs. You've entered the lair of the Chuul. Initiative (Amiz at Disadvantage due to surprise, but he still rolled better than the Chuul!)

Amiz is up, the nighmarish Chuul races toward you out of the underground pool. You also notice the bundled figure on the floor near the pool.

On the hit, the Chuul Grapples Amiz and tries to wrap it's mouth tentacles around him, he makes a DC 13 CON Save: 17 or is Poisoned and while he is poisoned he's also Paralyzed.
You all are up, Amiz is currently Grappled by the Chuul in one of its Pincers. As your eyes accomodate to the light, the bundled figure on the floor comes into view and looks somewhat familiar.

[[ Valar's sheet is showing a STR of 13. A +1 STR mod. He has proficiency with Greatswords so can add +2. That's giving him currently a +3 bonus to attack rolls.
But he *should* have 17 STR, a +3 STR mod. (Because the strength drain from the shadows we fought has been healed ever since we rested afterwards.) Then adding in the proficiency bonus for a total of +5.
Looking at the log you rolled a 4 on the d20 which added the +3 for a total of 7.
But if you fix the modifiers so that he has the proper +5 to attack rolls with his greatsword then it's a 9.
(And also would've been 14 slashing damage as opposed to 12.) ]]
(I've had a look and yeah it's probable that you took -4 STR from a Strength drain at some point. But that resets on a Long Rest so you can change your score back if you want. I can also do for you if you want me to just let me know.)

As Valar waits for the group, he is going to use his Devine Sense, and detect for Fiends, and Undead near the opening
Valar doesn't get the feeling that ay Undead or Fiends occupy the space below the church.

Valar shakes his head, "I didn't sense any fiends or undead from down below, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be wary."
Amiz follows Valar and has his axe and shield ready should something leap out. "I am going to head down and see what is there to see"
He moves down the passageway letting his Darkvision be accustomed to the dark and continue to move forward.

Amiz rushes forward to meet the Chuul in combat, slicing with his axe. The Chuul makes a guttural sound and strikes at Amiz with it's Pincers:
