Rinn is following, attempting to be stealthy as best as he can. He smells the goblins, the stench unmistakable, causing the hairs on his neck to stand up and his palms to sweat. He has Swan Song at the ready, in case they are ambushed.
As the adventurers approached the edge of the ravine, a deep chasm stretched out before them. The ravine was about fifteen feet wide. Standing at the ledge, however, it appeared to be quite deep ... a good fifty feet or so.
On one edge of the ravine, a massive tree loomed overhead, its gnarled roots dug into the rocky earth and clung to the sheer cliffside.
On either side of the ravine, built into the walls, the heroes noticed a pair of archways carved into the ravine's rocky walls.
Hanging about twenty feet below the upper ledge of the ravine, connecting these two archways, a rope bridge crossed the span.
The rope bridge swayed gently in the breeze, its weathered ropes creaking with each movement. Though clearly old and weather-worn, the bridge appeared surprisingly sturdy, a testament to the craftsmanship of its creators.
A subtle sense of unease washed over the heroes just then. Something felt amiss, a nagging suspicion that all was not as it appeared. Though they could not quite put their finger on it, there was a lingering sense of danger that permeated the air ... a silent warning that the ravine held secrets best left undisturbed.
OOC — I have placed your characters on the map, but you are free to place your character anywhere you want on the western side of the ravine. The green circle is the tree.
With your next post, please let me know where on the map you would like to begin, what items you will have drawn / donned / readied ... and roll init. You will all be surprised at the beginning of this encounter so hold off on actions just yet if you please.
The rope bridge, just so there is no confusion, is not at the surface level. Rather, it crosses the 15' span of the ravine about 20' down. At each end of the rope bridge, a passageway opens up and disappears into the ravine, there appears to be an underground structure of some sort that has been built into both sides of the ravine.
At the first hint of unease, Yaudara readied his sword and shield. He remained where he was, for the moment.

"Somethin' ain't right," Agnes mutters as Yaudara readies his weapon. "I feel like I been 'ere in a dream, 'afore. And things' went wrongways. But I can't remember how. Blast it!" She cups her hands at her lips and blows, and they ignite with a gentle, white-blue flame.
Not a spell, just cosmetics to describe eldritch blast. Agnes stays put toward the rear of the group.
Rinn had drawn Swan Song (silver short sword), holding it at the ready with his primary hand while readying his off-hand to handle his spell casting. Like the others, he has a suspicion that something is amiss, but he's not quite sure what beyond the rancid smell.
As Rinn is adept at traversing the wilderness, he had been been helping Toadstool in navigation, thus being next to and slightly behind the orc druid. (I think staying near Toadstool makes sense for Rinn).
The party's suspicions proved correct as a volley of arrows came down around them! Agnes and Rinn were struck, taking grievous wounds. The arrows were accompanied by a goblin warcry!!
Before his banishment from his tribe, Toadstool had spent time with the goblin peoples and understood their words.
"Eat our arrows, scum!"
In the large tree, concealed with vegetation, was a crude goblin lookout post. Constructed from twisted branches and scavenged materials, the makeshift structure blended seamlessly into its surroundings, camouflaged by the foliage of the grand tree growing at the side of the ravine.
A trio of goblins, their pale yellow forms stood guard atop the lookout post, their beady eyes peeking out from behind cover.
OOC — The goblins are 15' up in a lookout that grants 3/4 cover [+5 bonus to AC and Dexterity saving throws]. They are firing upon the party through arrow slits.

Bonus Action: Using Healing Light to heal Rinn for 2d6 (1d6 remaining until a long rest). Rinn is healed for 9 HP.
Action: Cast agonizing eldritch blast at the tree stand object. Attack: 4+5=9; Damage: 6+3=9 force.
Agnes gasps as she's truck by an arrow between the panels of her studded leather. She waves a hand toward Rinn. The midnight blue crystal tied around her neck pulses with light, and a colorful nebula of stars winks into existence a couple of feet over the wizard. Even in the light of day, the coloring is splendid: blues and purples blending among twinkling stars. Two of the miniature stars detach from the raiment and gently fall down upon him, infusing him with healing. Just as quickly, the nebula fades away.
Meanwhile, Agnes extends her other hand and utters a word. A ray of white-blue starfire erupts from her fingertips and flies toward the treehouse. Alas, having lost quite a bit of blood, she is disoriented and her aim is poor. The starfire shoots awry. "Fiddlesticks!"
If there is any cover available, such as a large rock, Agnes will move (hobble) to it and duck behind it, in hopes of obtaining cover herself.
Yaudara raises his shield and the arrow clangs off of it, spinning into the brush. "Foul beasts," he mutters, then levels his yklwa and charges forward.
"Torm, fill me with your fiery justice!" The yklwa glows white-hot, the fire of Searing Smite filling it as the paladin runs to the tree, takes a short hop and drives the point into the bark, opening a deep fissure which begins to spark and crackle with flame.
Movement up to the tree trunk, Bonus Action to cast Searing Smite and a melee attack Action, 23 to hit, 9 regular damage and 3 fire damage (doubled if vulnerable?), and the tree is now burning.
Rachael moves away, trying to hide among the rocks, and uses a Dodge action. She's really not made for fighting, more of a confidant to her elf master.
Rinn thanks Agnes for the quick healing, wishing that he could spend more time marveling at the whimsical display, though the threat of goblin arrows definitely is first priority. Already, he's thankful to have the help of this new party member.
Similarly, Rinn moves to the closest location of cover (probably behind the stone near Yaudara's original location), hoping to gain a little cover as he uses a Fire Bolt at the hunting blind on which the goblins are stationed. His eyes have a slight glow of orange to them as utters some arcane words, drawing the energy of the Weave towards himself to conjure a small flame in his hand, then propelling it forward towards its target.
To Hit: 8 + 5 = 13. Damage: 5 x 2 (vulnerability) = 10.
The spell strikes true, and the goblin hunting blind quickly combusts.
As the ambush unfolded, the adventurers quickly turned the tide against the goblins. With the element of surprise lost, the goblin lookout post became a precarious perch, vulnerable to the heroes' coordinated assault.
The druid, embracing the form of a giant spider, skittered up the towering tree and confronted the goblins face-to-many-eyed-face.
Meanwhile, the paladin called upon his divine connection and imbued searing, white hot divine energy into his spear. With a mighty thrust, he drove the spear into the trunk of the tree, igniting a blaze that quickly engulfed the tree and threatened to destroy it.
One of the goblins shouted some commands to the others. Toadstool understood their words, although his current form precluded communication.
"You," The goblin said to the one that would head west. "Get the boss."
"You," The goblin said to the one that would run east. "Warn the cave ... tell them we have adventurers." In the goblin tongue, the word for 'adventurer' was pejorative ... equal parts descriptive and disparaging.
In a desperate bid to escape, two of the goblins grabbed a tall pole and used it to lever themselves down from the tree blind. One of them crossed the chasm in this way, landing on the far side. The other, however, took a different approach.
Instead of fleeing, this goblin dashed toward the heroes, weaving through their ranks with surprising agility. The goblin reached a concealed hatch hidden amidst a row of rocks and stones and flung it open with a triumphant cackle.
To the adventurers' surprise, the hatch revealed an access point to the underground chambers they had suspected lay beneath their feet all along.
Finally, with a flick of his hand, Rinn conjured a mote of fire and hurled it toward the lookout post. The flames licked at the ropes and vines, reducing the structure to smoldering ruins and leaving the remaining goblin exposed and vulnerable.
The goblins no longer have a tree stand to hide behind, and the green circle on the tree no longer grants 3/4 cover. Another line of rocks marked on the map grant cover as well. one of these goblins have shields equipped. The goblins that left the tree did so like pole vaulters, landing 15' away from the tree. Yaudara will marvel at the ingenuity of the pole-vaulting goblins as he watches one sail over his head, land and open a secret hatch. Then he'll grimace.
"Oh no, my little friend, there is no escape for you."
Leaving his arachnid companion to deal with the goblin far above his head, he'll turn and race up to the goblin by the concealed hatch, striking with his yklwa.
Move to goblin G2 and melee attack Action, 12 to hit, which misses. :(
Action: Cast agonizing eldritch blast on G2. Attack: 10+5=15; Damage: 7+3=10 force damage, plus 6 necrotic damage from hex.
Move to procure cover near Rinn.
Agnes hooks the fingers of her left hand and gestures aggressively toward the goblin near the hatch. Agnes grins in satisfaction as the creature is eclipsed in shadow (hex). “Not s’fast!” Her other hand arcs gracefully and produces a blue-white beam of starfire that streaks toward it.
Agnes spins on the spot, her wild hair whipping, and runs to join Rinn behind the rocks.
Rinn sees his companions quickly trying to take out the goblins before they can call more for help, tracking each of them to gauge where his next spell should be headed. He sees the arachnid-formed Toadstool going after the one across the bridge, while Agnes is able to fell the one who was going towards the hatch.
He decides that his best bet is to target the one closest him (G1), which he uses another Fire Bolt to target (OOC - with advantage since I'm burning my Inspiration).
To Hit: 11 + 5 = 16 (woot!!!). Damage: 4.
His eyes glow orange again and he launches another mote of fire at the goblin, his cantrip scorching the enemy's flesh.
The goblins' resolve shattered, their once-bold demeanor now replaced by panic and desperation.
One goblin, the first to fall, was caught in the warlock's relentless hex. It convulsed in agony as dark energy sapped its strength. The goblin crumpled on the ground, defeated.
Meanwhile, Toadstool, wild shaped as a massive spider, unleashed sticky webs that ensnared another goblin, wrapping it tightly in cocoon-like strands, restraining the opponent thoroughly before it was burned by the wizard's fire bolt.
Amidst the chaos, the last remaining goblin displayed remarkable agility, darting and weaving through the melee with uncanny speed. With a nimble dodge, he slipped past his fallen comrade and plunged into the now-revealed passageway ... a stone staircase that led down into the earth. The goblin leapt past the first few steps and kept running.
Rachael, for her part, observed the goblin's antics and loudly hissed. Back arched, tail twitching ... a warning of some sort. Yaudara, keenly watching his foe elude him, was also aware of the familiar's hissed warning and in a position to see what Rinn's familiar was pointing out. He noticed that he first few steps of the staircase held a curious thing, the tell tale residual sparkle of a magic charm ... almost impossible to see if someone hadn't pointed it out ... a nearly invisible snare trap!
The line of rocks marked on the map grants cover. None of these goblins have shields equipped. The chasm is 15' wide at all points (ignore the squares that male it seem like more than 15')

Agnes cackles merrily as the target of her blast falls. Her jubilation falters, though, as the nimble gobbo manages to evade them into the lair beneath. Still, one more goblin remains. She steps out from behind the boulder she had ducked behind and makes her way to the edge. The goblin is stuck, snared by the sticky web woven by Toadstool. At least, she thinks that’s Toadstool…
Again, she crooks her fingers and casts her hex. The shadow that had engulfed her victim flies across the ravine and settles over the webbed goblin. With her other hand she casts her starfire. The blue-white beam comets through the air, trailed by its tail of stardust, and slams into its target.
