Hey everyone just wanted to touch base, today is in-person game day for me so I likely won’t have time to sit down and post. I’ll respond to all questions asap, but just quickly, yes the ghast was felled by kneecap! I hope you guys have a good Sunday!
Do you want us to roll individual rolls for all options that MIGHT happen based on the turns in the battle?
Owlbear Rodeo.
@OtoutoDwimble,
Thanks again man for the suggestions and the comments.
I'll give you my best answer on this but know that I'm open to suggestions that might be better:
Given the scenario where you want to attack Monster "A", but if Monster "A" dies first..:
1. you want to keep the same type of attack, and just target Monster "B": Keep the same attack roll and just declare your intention to change targets if the first target dies
2. If you want to declare a different type of attack or action for Monster "B": Roll for the Attack on Monster "A" and state that if it dies before your turn, your following action is for Monster "B"... then declare and roll a separate action/attack.
And as always, if you notice that the creature has died before I post the round summary, just feel free to edit out your monster "A" scenario, and keep the monster "B" scenario from your post.
Let me know if that's too confusing. Also, I'll check out Owlbear rodeo. I'm unfamiliar with it, but if we all prefer it, I don't mind making the switch. I'll follow up with you all when I get a chance to dig in to it!
Additionally, just want to say that two ghouls and a ghast was considered a deadly encounter on this DNDBeyond encounter builder, but I was fairly confident it wouldn't have been impossible for you all. But, you all just handled combat masterfully and practically destroyed this encounter. Lol.
Yeah, I think that makes sense. I will consider each roll for the particular kind of attack to be the same dice roll. I like that. I'm sure you can tell by now, from my miserable rolls, I am pretty chill with whiffing in combat.
Sometimes, I think they rate those kinds of encounters with a variable for the monsters succeeding with some of their nasty additional effects. They can really mess up a party of low level folks. We just happened to never succumb to their stench and nastiness. Luck more than skill, methinks.
But, I really do love it when we get to have a minute to consider our moves and work toward each other's strengths. It makes a big difference. I'm not as used to feeling like I have competent party members. It's nice.
I'm a bit confused with our initiative, I thought we were at the top of the order, Ghoul and Dorn turn? But maybe i missed something, or we are just going in reverse order? haha

I’m not sure what’s happening in IC right now 😂
everyone take a second and look at my last round summary. During everyone’s last turns, kneecap killed the ghost, and Volneer killed Ghoul A, which was the ghoul closest to the throne. Ghoul B was the ghoul mantling above the flames in the corner. ghoul B is the final ghoul alive and is not prone. we are still going in initiative order, I was just waiting for @callim to declare if he’d like to make an alternative action (because he previously declared a melee attack when he was not in range of a monster).
@callim, I see this next turn you posted, you declared more movement and an attack which is perfectly fine. I just want to confirm you’d like to forgo an action on your previous turn before posting the Ghoul, Dorn, and Arias next actions.
It's a light hammer. I am PROUD of my 5 with doubled damage. Hehe. I am imagining a kind of less than impressive plinking sound when it hits. Maybe it gives the ghoul a subdural hematoma.
Hey friends! So sorry about my post rate. My wife and I are on a tour up the east coast for work, and we're currently in North Carolina and it's been hit or miss with mobile data. but I will still be keeping in touch as often as I can. today and tomorrow specifically I'll have plenty of time. We're back home on May 2nd so everything should be back to normal by then. In the mean time, I'll be as diligent as I can with posting. sorry again.
PS. if anyone lives in North Carolina or below, we're on our way back down to Florida and would love some recommendations for food spots, hiking, tourism, or other spots!
Man. Lol. I usually have a home-brew rule with Critical damage, being the first roll is max dice damage, and the second roll is a standard roll including modifiers. how does that sound to everyone? just keep in mind Monsters will use the same rule! Lol

We are currently at 320 xp, 850 more will push us into level 3. Is that your intent? :)
hey buddy, you beat up the bad guys, you get the XP. I don't make the rules. Lol 200 each for the ghouls, and 450 for the ghast!
level 3 it is! Just a reminder, when you level up, your character sheet should adjust everything automatically. but an FYI, your hit dice, spell slots, and everything else you gain is just appended to your current status. (i.e your health doesn't automatically restart at full, neither do spell slots, or any conditions) and its effective immediately. no need for a long rest or anything.
Also @Kneecap, you get inspiration for that successful turn undead, which really turned the tides real quick in that encounter.

Nice! I'll make a note of doing it that way from now on. I'm a little higher up in Baltimore. No recommendations on that route. But, it sounds like fun. Don't ever worry about posting timing. You are doing great.

Question, wouldn't the XP for the encounter be split into Dorn, Kneecap, Volneer, and Calim aka about 213 each.

Oh, shoot. Yes. I might as well throw something while I am too far away to hit.
I'll throw my hammer. I'll put it IC.
You did 5 with double damage?

he did :)

I’ll get a post in tonight friends! The wife and I are traveling and data is spotty.

Sweet, all around! I say we search this room (will roll in IC) and then head back to town. That work group?

I agree with the change for critical rolls too. Sounds like a nice way to do it!
