Your trip to Echo Cave is peaceful and Thar discovers 3 more nodes along the way. The Rockseeker brothers greet you and once you do the trick with the chains to bring in the magic forge they are quick they are highly impressed. Both with the chains and the new forge "This will be very useful" after checking out all that it can do "It has much finer temperature control, can get hotter than any normal forge (and other things that me the DM has no idea about but they do)." They offer you they equivalent of 50,000gp for it. That is you can make magic items in their forge without spending your own cash up to that amount.
OOC: Gijigume wants to spend as much money as possible (up to what he has) improving his armour & shield.
Your armour is rare and your shield is uncommon. Going from uncommon to rare costs 10,000 and rare to very rare costs 14,000 plus DC 31 and 36 Arcana checks.
Thar will create his own map of the Nodes when discovered and when/where possible overlay it on a map of the world thus gaining a knowledge of potential faster travel routes.
"Well Gijigume" says Thar "from my knowledge of the Forge I am not confident my ability to improve your shield and even less so for your armour. I believe I have the magical knowledge but it would certainly test my skill for I would need everything to go right and help from others."
OOC: I think Thar's best arcana check would be +9 with the skill +1d6 from Aeliarin's bardic inspiration another +1d4 from Guidance. And we could also hire a cleric to cast Enhance Ability so that he will get advantage on the roll. So by my calculation assuming multiple attempts at Inspiration and Guidance to get maximum benefits from both it is about a 45% chance of success for the shield and 20% for the armour. The enhance ability would give two chances of success. Not the best odds. And if I recall the cost is lost on a failure.
(43% chance of success on DC 31 (I got 25% without advantage) 8% chance to get DC 36. You have 5 attempts with Bardic inspiration.)
(I don't think there's any way to assure maximum benefit from Bardic inspiration or Guidance. You'll manage it 1 in 24 rolls..)
Worse than that peoples, you don't get to roll them in advance to see what you get. You roll them when you make the skill check. There is the option of the spell 'Expertise'
Fah'lin flips through some catalogues on the tables here, Gundren and Nundro have really done well cleaning this place up. He stops at a few items of interest. Rod of the Pact Keeper +1, Light Shard Amulet, Skyblinder Staff ... But he knows his limits, he wouldn't be able to control even one more of these powerful items. Maybe he could improve on the equipment he has, it seems that might be too difficult.
Fah'lin asks around among the Rockseekers' staff, maybe he recognizes some from Phandalin (if not the other way 'round). He asks if anyone's heard where they might be able to pick up a wizard's spell scroll. (So we can add Expertice to Thar's book. Persuasion: (2)23)

Thar has a Staff of Defence, does he want to swap. Strangely (or not so strangely) the brothers have "Expertise" written out in spell book fashion. As it is what one would consider essential for any wizard trying to use their Forge to make magic items, they have it here to sell to anyone interested. You would get the friends and family rate of 4,000 gp. Actual coin not from the 50,000 previously mentioned.
Fah'lin will contribute to the cost to add it to Thar's spell book if he wishes to do so.
He asks Thar if he coukd make another Staff like the one he has. (Though I'll leave it to Thar if he'd rather make a trade. A Ring of Protection and Quarterstaff +1 isn't exactly a fair trade for it.)

Thar's proficiency bonus is 4 so doubling would improve his Arcana skill to +13 and then assuming only the average across Bardic inspiration and Guidance gives another +6 which I think gives he the same chance as I originally thought. Still not good odds for rare or very rare and a Staff of Defense is rare.
But for uncommon (i.e. Stone of Good Luck) with DC of 26 even if Bardic inspiration and Guidance are both 1s he would have +15 which I think makes it 50/50 and with Enhance Ability giving advantage seems reasonable.
Thar would be willing to trade his Staff of Defense to Fah'lin for his Ring of Protection if Fah'lin pays for the Expertise spell in full. Doesn't want the Quarterstaff for I can't remember the last time he hit anything. (Maybe the brothers will take it as payment for the spell?) Thar has historically used charges from the Staff each day on any party members that could benefit from Mage Armor, including himself. Would Fah'lin be continuing this practice?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Khalin Gool would like to improve the accuracy of his Handheld Crossbow, (not sure what modifiers he can add) 11 + whatever modifiers apply. This is of course if all are agreeable, he has about 10,000gp of his own to add to whatever accrues from the party treasury. He will all so make 2 potions of Fire Giant strength from the powdered giant hearts; 2 potions of Healing as well (assuming the Alchemists Kit has stuff for such simples), provided he has the time. 461 d20 +2 Medicine +4 proficiency for each potion, top 2 roll for 1 strength, 1 healing, least 2 for healing then strength

Khalin Gool would like to improve the accuracy of his Handheld Crossbow, (not sure what modifiers he can add) 8 + whatever modifiers apply. 421 d20 +2 Medicine +4 proficiency for each potion, top 2 roll for 1 strength, 1 healing, least 2 for healing then strength
You are only proficient with simple weapons and the Hand Crossbow is not a simple weapon (neither is the Blowgun) so you don't get you proficiency bonus when attacking with them. You need to take items from here to get your proficiency bonus when attacking.
Fah'lin is thrilled with the deal. He approaches the Rock Seeker Brothers as suggested, to see if their interested in taking the Quarterstaff +1 in exchange for the spell. (Otherwise he pays)
Fah'lin completes the trade with his companion and spends some time hanging out with the staff.
(How many Mage Armor are we using each day these days?)

Aeliarin would like a Stone of Good Luck.
DC 26 check 8,000gp

(No room for Attunement. I can change up Gauntlets of Ogre Power for a Belt of Hill Giant Strength, change the Ring of Protection for a Staff of Defense or eventually a Staff of Power or change a +1 for a +2. Either way it's an un-ideal chance for success.)

Otak huffs slightly at being accepted, shrugging off the thought of creation of magical items, he is good for now.

That did not go well, this should split the rolls out -13,25,10,16
