He scratches his chin. "I'm afraid so. I know it's odd to think of, but the Material plane is covered in green grass everywhere. The sky is blue with these white clouds of gas, and water literally falls from the sky. The creatures are closer to livestock than monsters, and in some places, there are whole regions made of just water. In fact, caverns are only found beneath the surface, not everywhere. But I can't find a way to enter. I know the spell to get there, but something is interfering. Something sentient wants us to stay here, but I don't know why."

Would mending be insufficient to fix the sword?

[Technically mending only fixes breaks not corrosion. But since the edge of the blade is what hit the rust monster, you probably just need to sharpen your sword.]

So my answer is, no mending doesn't fix it, but if you don't want to get a new one you probably only need to sharpen it to fix it's damage penalty. If you have a knife and an hour, you could probably do this for free and get the rust off.]

There are a few others on this floor. Since this is the magic related subject floor, you see 1 person browsing books about monsters, another looking for Divination, 1 person just wandering isles trying to find a book, and 2 people reading a book related to sorcery. As you look around with your eyes, your ears pick up something too. There's the faint sound of a fight happening upstairs and spells firing.

Whisper listens, trying to picture this strange other world. "Hm...It's not that weird eladrin with the spiders blocking your spell, is it? He said he and the other 'wardens' are going to destroy the dao. He gave us that ring to give you."

Morgot switches from his longsword and shield to his halberd, and starts heading back to town, keeping a lookout for other monsters.

"Weird Eladrin... Ah yes, Kygga. Kygga is an ambitious young man, but he can't possibly block my spell. As for the wardens, I was once one of them. Wardens were never a group, but a sort of title we all named ourselves. We all knew that the glass Dao was back before everyone else. Most stories don't know the actual dates on when the Dao really fell, so here's the real one; the Dao turned to glass 16 years ago, and 13 years ago he returned, but no one has suspected his return until this year. The wardens knew because we and the Scarlet Cross were once the same thing, and we called ourselves The Scythe. The leader of The Scythe turned to Dao into glass rather than killing him, and we split. The Scarlet Cross want the power for themselves, and the Wardens want the Dao dead for good to protect our people." He looks at the Ring. "But it's like running a charity when you're just as poor as those you're giving to. The Wardens tried to kill off the Glass Dao without scaring the public, so we told no one that he was gone. But we were only a quarter of The Scythe, and the other three quarter wanted us dead. So we disbanded, I did too. I was always in it to help people, not for the power. But some of the Wardens stayed dedicated and became rogues; Kygga, Everall, Oculis, Onyx, Myren, and Raiden. The Scarlet Cross killed Myren a few years ago, but the other 5 are trying to this day. I gave Kygga this ring as a token to keep trying. Do you know why he gave it back? And sorry, a lot of information at once." He claps his hands together and finishes with "Recap! The Scythe wanted the Dao dead, and we did it. But the Scarlet Cross were selfish, and the Wardens want peace. We split into those groups, but the Wardens disbanded, leaving the Eladrin as one of the few members left. The Scarlet Cross is still active."

You find a shop with a large selection of weapons, and this shop seems to specialize in swords. It's called Oculis' Blades after the shop owners name. Oculis' is a lizardfolk veteran, you can tell it's him by his name tag, and his very lively right now as he laughs and talks to the customers. "Hello customer! You're looking fine today, have you done something with your hair? What have you come to buy?"

There is a sign that says:

STEP 1: Pick Iron (recommended), Silver, Bronze or Gold. STEP 2: You can order them with any combinations of the following perks, but you don't have to; Silvered Weapons (we refuse to silver weapons already made of silver), Engraved Designs, Magic Weapons, Spellcasting Focus Weapons, Burning Weapons. If you wish to add more than 2 perks, you will have to wait for it to be made. DISCLAIMER: We currently have no way to make weapons Spellcasting & Burning at the same time.

[Just so you get what you want, I'll tell you what mechanically the options mean.]

"Ah yes, magic and engraved. We can do a normal longsword for 7 gold and 5 silver. Making it magic costs an extra 4 gold, and engraving costs 5 silver. So that's 12 gold for your magic engraved longsword. You can order a custom engraving, which you'll get in 2-3 days. Or, we can get you something in stock out of the following options. First is the Wyrm Dragon design, like a long snake-like one. The carving of the dragon is wrapped around the blade, plus the handle's tip is shaped like the dragon's head. Next is the floral design, which covers the blade in carvings of various flowers with a flower tipped handle. We have one with web on the handle and nothing on the blade, we can put more on it if you'd like. We have one with a scale design on the blade and handle with a snake head tip for the handle. That's what's in stock for artwork. If you want your name or a phrase on the blade, we can do that and allow any of the handle designs with it, but you can't pattern the blade and sign your name on it." He slaps his hand on the table gleefully and continues. "Handle designs not listed cost 2 extra silver. Anyways, let's talk about magic. You can have minor enchantment" [minor enchantment means +1 magic weapon] "or a major enchantment bonus." [major enchantment means +2 magic weapon] "The major ones are 8 gold each, and they deal a little bit of extra damage, either divine, freezing cold, or toxic." [deal 1d4 extra Radiant, Cold, or Poison damage on every hit.]

Once again, if I take damage I'll use my reaction to cast hellish rebuke. Dexterity saving throw (DC 13) or 16 fire damage. On a successful save they take half as much.

The hobgoblin winces and falls to the ground. The human swings his dagger with 3 to hit and 5 piercing damage. The woman cackles. "I call this spell... actually, what is it called?" She triumphantly swings her arm and grabs yours, using shocking grasp with 21 to hit and 8 lightning damage. "Who cares what it's called, I'll kill you with it!" The hobgoblin jumps back up and uses ray of frost on you, with 10 to hit and 7 cold damage.

[Whoever was first to hit you makes a Dex save of 24, although if it's the old woman hers is 2 lower than that number.]

"Hmmm, they're all very appealing, but I'll take one with a major enchantment, divine, and the wyrm dragon design. Do you have that one? If I've done my calculations correctly, that would be 16 gp?"

Thrudor ignores the fighting upstairs....He figures someone has broken the rules and would probably be safer on this floor, but he is curious....Maybe a quick peek would not hurt. He summons his familiar this time as a spider and tells it to go and peek at what's happening upstairs. Thrudor stays within 100 feet of his spider, sits down in a chair, and looks through the spiders eyes.
