Yeah we 100% could, and probably should. I wonder which one of the characters will have the foresight tho. Sharn can sortta track and find, but he's not much of a trap tinkerer. At least not yet, might try to skill monkey it up depending on how things go.
If you acquire Tinker's Tools and take it as your Downtime Activity, you can learn how to make (and therefore Disarm) traps with proficiency. Most traps have a safety release button. But not all traps do. Some, you just have to jam them. Kasi has Tinker's Tools and is quite adept at making and disarming traps. She could teach you. You can only have 1 Downtime Activity at a time, but there's nothing in the rules saying a teacher can only teach one thing at a time. Stands to reason, that while Merkas is doing some repetitive metal work, kasi could show you the basic mechanics of a trap and how to recognize them. Her loyalty score may have to be a bit higher to teach you her best secrets though.
I struggle play dumb so I gonna raise my intellegence at level 4.
Don't sell Sera short. 9 isn't dumb. It's slightly below average, and I generally fluff low INT in one of two ways:
Lowered capacity for learning quickly. (Kasi is smart enough to speak three languages, but didn't pick up the languages quickly enough to speak all three fluently. She's good at what she knows though. Once something is mastered, it's locked in like a vault.
Limited access to education in formative years. (Sera was taught in the streets, on the go. She didn't have the benefit of a formal school and access to all the finer tools and research materials to finely hone her craft. Sera is street-smart, and has good intuition, as demonstrated by the WIS bonus. She just doesn't have the higher education.
That's why I generally allow multiple skill checks to solve the same problem. A person with a high INT will reflect back on their studies and experiments, compare what they know with what they're observing, and arrive to a conclusion. A person with a high WIS score will use common sense and keen observation skills to form a conjecture.
In American history, black people were denied access to higher education, and were generally kept away from resources that allowed them to thrive. Yet, many of the most important advances in medicine, science, and law (usually things that require higher education) came from black people. Their credit was taken from them and ascribed to white people, because of the white-initiative culture at the time, which further propagated the myth that black people weren't as intelligent as white people. But we've been learning throughout the decades that black people have been advancing our society by leaps and bounds, in ways white people didn't, over the generations prior, with or without the benefit of proper schooling.
Of course, if you want to boost your INT, there's a library at Santekh, and more than a few highly educated people there, including Acolytes and potential patrons eager to train. The library isn't as vast as what you'd find in a major city, but it would be a good way to fluff your desire to fortify your education and increase your ability to learn new proficiencies.
So Merkas is a 12 Int and has a +6 stealth with proficiency but his biggest downfall is he doesn't have darkvision so in these dark caves he has to give himself away with a light in order to move around, hence the dancing lights they give him at least rudimentary dark vision. Hearing that there is a light below is a good thing for him because the dancing lights won't stand out if there are other lights.
Merkas is chaotic neutral for sure and taking things is right up the kender motif, but the group did just give the kobold the knocked out a speech about not being here to take anything other than what they came here for. But thing taken from defeated attackers are free game.
Kenders don't really have the same concept of possession as humans or elves do. They don't even get mad if something is taken from them, so long as it's done without harming them. To them, everything is just sort of "on loan from the universe." I'm not going to tell you how to play. If Merkas wants to respect Hastos's wishes, then that's admirable. But also, is it really stealing if Hastos doesn't notice?
Sleight of Hand refers to hiding away things before someone notices. That's why it doesn't really allow you to take very much. So, when you roll a Sleight of Hand check, technically, another player will have to roll an opposed Perception check to even know it's been taken. Certain things won't require an opposed check. Try to take the shirt of Sharn's back, and he'll figure it out without a Perception check... or rather the Sleight of Hand check will automatically fail, and Sharn may give you a swat on the nose for your efforts. But scooping up a few gems while Hastos is adjusting his leather breeches isn't something you should be too worried about, unless you fumble your roll.
Now thanks to Hastos "we are not thiefs" speech we not getting ANY loot this adventure.
Thank you Hastos!!! ;)
I mean... it's not the worst Lawful ideal. Technically, you don't even know for sure that the Letni Inhelk are the ones that stole the crates. You're all going off gathered intel, but so far, there hasn't been any evidence that they have done anything wrong. Just suspicion and coincidence.
Canonically, the Letni Inhelk are one of the few kobold tribes that the Hachakee have been able to make peaceful agreements with. Letni Inhelk supplies are part of how they managed to build Santekh up in the first place, and develop some agriculture, raise livestock. If it weren't for the famine, Santekh might be on the right track for becoming a successful base of operations for the rebellion. If it turns out that Letni Inhelk didn't steal the crates, then that makes you all invaders, stomping in, messing with their defenses, and beating up their workers. Stealing their stuff too, would be committing the very act you're suspecting the Letni Inhelk of doing, and would make the already insular tribe even more distrustful of their surface dwelling neighbors.
But don't mind me... I'm just over here sowing chaos and doubt like a good little Dungeon Master.
Ok, I'm about to check the IC. *rubs hands together excitedly* Let's see whatcha got for me.

Hence why Merkas clarified what stealing was, thereby leaving everything open to interpretation and circumstance about whether he’s stealing or not
Ok, I'm about to get ready to go out. I'm up from a power nap, and realize I'm nearly out of time to freshen up! Gonna shake my booty at the goth club. I'm not as young as I used to be, but I'm not too old to shake my booty once in a while, provided I'm willing to feel it in every bone for the next few days. 😅
Feel free to RP as I'm gone. I'll check the threads in the morning... which will be about 18 hours from now. Unless I come home with some inexplicable burst of energy for posting. But I imagine the girls will have to carry me to my bed like pallbearers. I rarely ever stay up past 10 pm anymore. 😅
I'm all for this, need to get some of the right crates back for sure. At least some of them to get the gaes off the party.
The long rest will happen on the trip back unless we drive through the night to make sure we save as much time as possible. And rush back without cart to slow us down and wreck face.
Think we should try to help mend the Letni Inhelk/Santekh bridge if possible.
Taking things from defeating attackers is not any better. Especially if the kobolds are forced or tricked to act hostile.
How is hitting someone unconsious and them take their valuables justified as better than just stealing?
But Sera is Lawful good and I can enjoy a good philosfical bickering with chaotic neutral Merkas in character. I
like a discussion real too but it is best at a pub with beer and friends
;)

Hahah! I thought about that! Sorry!
Character: Hastos, Ibahalii Vriwhulth, the Reaper of Glory v2: IC Thread
Hastos is really hoping they don’t search Merkas! LOL
He’s sure Merkas is taking stuff, It is looking at the act more through Merkas’ eyes. Which is why he wasn’t lying when he said we weren’t thieves.
Hastos is just fine …”stretching” the truth. He’s not a bloody paladin. 😂
Character: Hastos, Ibahalii Vriwhulth, the Reaper of Glory v2: IC Thread
Just picked up a few stones.....

Seems our perseption stinks. What you got Hastos? How long we wait before we miss our Kender and follows?

Well Sera gonna give "we are not going to hurt you" speech so we can not hit them either.
:D
I don’t know why this scene with Sera is reminding me of the guitar scene from “Airplane”….

Ok. How about the suggested plan?
We try get the kobolds to at least be open minded that we will try save them.
That we took the crates back and pretend we never figured out someone else is behind this.
We get the crates back
MAYBE get a long rest...
Rise level !!!!
Return and free the kobolds and stops whoever evil is behind this
Any suggestions or other plans?
Sounds like a good plan to me!

Rolled an 11 for history, used heroic inspiration tho.
Oh boi, I think we hit the jackpot. A dungeon and a dragon, wrap it up gents, we won the game.
