A couple months ago I got pulled into a group with some coworkers of mine. We play a lot, just because of the nature of our job we're all gathered in one place with free time frequently. I'm slower at combat but I have a lot of fun with the roleplaying parts! We've been playing the Waterdeep Heist adventure, currently level 4. I started as a rogue (died) and now I have a ranger. I've done a lot better at keeping her alive ( ˶´ ᵕ `˶ ).

@j_ess: An in-person group that meets regularly? You're going to make people here jealous. Sounds like you've already gotten a core part of the DnD experience with having to roll up a new character lol. This group seems to like roleplaying a fair bit too, so if that's what you lean more towards I'd say there's probably going to be plenty of it. Go ahead and roll your stats and send in a character concept. You don't need to get too fancy and in-depth with it since it's just an application, not a guarantee. If you need help getting started let me know.
@Kaemgen: I think for most of us this is the first game we've played with 2024 rules. I've been tripped up a few times, like with the changes to Surprise. But I'm getting better at checking rules as they come up instead of just assuming they're the same. As far as 2024 player characters go, I would definitely say they're a lot stronger. I know we have an Owl familiar en route as soon as the PC hits the right level to get the spell. And there's a Druid who should be able to do it but she hasn't yet. But honestly if you end up being the one to join just go for it, we can have a Pokemon campaign lol.
Okay I need help (ᵕ—ᴗ—). I'm okay on filling out character sheet stuff like the background, class, etc...What my GM had to guide me on was the like, actual backstory stuff and where the character fits in the world.

@j_ess: I'm conferring with experts on this. I don't ever actually make characters lol. So to start with, do you have an idea of some of the basics - like a class and background?
I've become attached to the idea of playing a Paladin. For a background I was thinking Noble? I have this idea in my head of a character who spent so much time and mental bandwidth focusing on improving their martial skills they forgot to pay attention to other things. Like having a purpose for trying to get so strong in the first place (•-•). Or duties to family. Or something like that.

Darun was raised in a particularly warlike tribe of orcs. However, he always felt a great sense of sympathy for the victims of this violence. Feeling misunderstood by his fellow orcs, who dubbed him the Weeper, his life changed when he met a priest of Ilmater. He learned from this priest not just to witness and sympathise with those who are suffering, but to use his strength and resolve to help them when given a chance. No longer able to condone the violence of his people, Darun left the tribe and now wanders the Sword Coast easing the suffering of all peoples and embracing his nickname. He struggles with feelings of cowardice, having not only done nothing to stop his Orcish brethren or left sooner, but also having had the idea that empathy is cowardice indoctrinated into him from an early age.
Ulf doesn't like remembering his childhood, which is a jumble flash of bloodshed and terror, then being sold by slavers to a strange old man. The man was an old wizard, Larx Nordrisk, had a sudden need to pass on a legacy, any legacy really, to satisfy the condition of a deal he had made with a strange entity in his past. He failed to do so before he passed away, but young man traveled to various places for a coupe, of years and managed finished his apprenticeship as a wizard. Along he set up with a traveling group of dwarves who were finishing up a contract to build roads and watch towers for a lord of the Empire, where he finished some training as architect and as a cartographer.
He was allowed to take the surname Stahle, the clan name of the group that helped him to survive his childhood. With a new surname, he is now off to figure out how to survive in this hostile world with this group he has fallen in with.
Calligrapher's Supplies - Concise writing is important for both mapping and wizardly activities, like creating scrolls!
Cartographer Tools - when building roads and making safeholds, good to be able to read a map and make new ones!
Carpenter's & Mason's tools - The basic skills needed when building shelter, furniture and improving roads.
Smith's tools - Someone has to be able to make the nails, horseshoes and repair the tools.
Vehicles (Land) - See! I told you we'd need nails and horseshoes! Why carry everything on your back when you can build a wagon!
Painter's supplies - well, you see, it started off just painting Walls of buildings and signs for the workers to know where everything was at... but I discovered I have a talent for murals and mosaics.
(edit: just using a copy of a character rolled up in another game - Siege of Zanderhel - just changed the name.)
I saw this and would love to join! I am an avid lover of the forgotten realms and have played in a few modules before! I'd like to play a paladin if that's okay? I can PM you and we can talk character details if ya want!

I am an avid lover of the forgotten realms and have played in a few modules before!
I'd like to play a paladin if that's okay?
I can PM you and we can talk character details if ya want!
@ShieldHero_: Feel free to put your character concept either here or PM me, happy to answer any questions to help with the character app!
I sent you a PM and I realize I have a very similar character concept to Jess up above (A noble paladin with similar arc/views)
So I can always make another character to add more variety to the party and such ^^
Let's see...

Well, this sounds fun! I did do the first part of the adventure a long time ago, but we only made it to the end of the siege, I think?
