Looking between Shadowsnacks and Perry, Morgaine also sees Mari disappear through the door. Her heart grieves briefly, then she asks tentatively through the mental link, Mari, are you alright? As Morgaine waits for an answer of some sorts she lays a hand on Perry's shoulder to reassure him that we will help her and will not leave her behind. Not long after that she also sees a big creature open the door that Poljen went to check out, she immediately switches from her longsword to her longbow and if she can, shots the creature that has now shown itself.
Seeing others struggle with the door, Velon continues to charge forward and frantically tries to slow himself as he reaches the door just enough to look through the keyhole. With a brief bit of mist he is gone, teleporting into the adjacent space.
OOC (Misty Step)(Velon will teleport towards the center of whatever room he can see, assuming it makes sense, thus barring obvious things like teleporting off of a cliff or into a sphere of annihilation or something.)
Finding himself in a dark space and immediately falling, Velon manages to grab ahold of ...something and immediately casts Light on the hand axe on his belt. He calls out "don't rush in here, just open the door!" "I almost fell! Mari?! Mari where are you?!"
Mari's heart is racing as she almost fell. She responds through the link to the others, " I started falling but caught myself. im okay. I really need to get out of here soon though. Velon! Where are you? Im here. i cant make sense out of anything though. "
Lia runs to the door and throws it open quickly. She stands at the door looking for Velon and Mari. " Perry, do you have any rope?"
Perry seems disappointed as he replies to Lia, "No Lia, I don't have any rope, but I do have....let's see here. I have a mirror, and some playing cards...I have wings! And Shadowsnacks can help people fly too. Oooh, I can also make people fly." The bard ponders his potential options for helping.
Shadowsnacks communicates out as well, "Lia, Perry, if you need me to go in there to help let me know. I'm weakened but I can still carry one person see."
Poljen and Cratol lay into the creature together, assisted by an arrow from Morgaine. It wings a huge meaty fist into Poljen with a thud.
Lia, Perry, and Lawrance gather by the door and try to open the thing, but to no avail. Lawrance quickly determines that the door is being held closed by some magical effect. It might be possible to overpower physically, but that won't be easy.
Shadowsnacks retreats up the corridor. Apparently he went a little too far, as shadows appear from all around, slashing at the equine spirit. He gives a pained cry as he is dragged down and drained of the last of his vitality. A few moments later, he vanishes.
Meanwhile, as light blossoms in the room beyond, Velon and Mari find themselves dangling at the edge of a pit, with a trap door slowly closing in their direction. Below seems to be some kind of tunnel. A large number of skeletons await below. A few moments later, and they've grabbed onto Velon and Mari's ankles, trying to drag them down.
Poljen takes 26 damage, reduced to 13 by DR.
The danglers need to pass a dc 15 Athletics check to avoid being dragged below. I'll go ahead and say if you manage to beat a DC 20, you'll also pull yourself up and out of the pit. Either way, you have one round of actions before the trapdoor closes, potentially crushing limbs in the process.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Poljen can tell things are going on behind him with the other door, but decides the best thing for him to do is keep the big creature at bay from the others. He says to Morgaine and Cratol, "If they need your help, go. Otherwise, help me end this thing." Getting a good look at the creature he decides to take a chance that it is not immune to the cold. He drops his sword and shield and brings out the great axe.
Mari is terrified as she knows cant break free. Looking below she knows its over for her. Her hands start to slip. She looks to Velon and speaks through the link , " Get out of here. Dont die with me. Live for Lia. Go. " She grimaces as she thinks of all the adventires they have had and of how much she cares for her friends.
She loses her grip and is dragged below. In spite of her experience and training terror takes over now. She screams as she is surrounded Mari fights wildly to escape.
Lia curses as she is consumed with fear. " Someone get this door open. Please. " She starts slamming herself into the door trying to open it.
Perry strums a discordant note on his mandolin as tiny, golden lights begin to gather around him. The sound echoes out then focuses intensely right at the magically sealed door. Slowly, the door itself begins to glow as the magic sealing it is dispelled. As the light begins to fade, Perry immediately bursts the door open and witnesses the state of Mari and Velon. Still glowing from the effects of his magic, he looks down to them and yells, "VELON, MARI! GET BACK UP HERE NOW!"
But suddenly, Perry's bright yellow eyes widen as he feels the mental link to his best friend fade. He briefly turns his head only to see a small trace of fey light right where Shadowsnacks once was. But he does not panic. Instead, he remembers the words of his wise friend. About how it was his responsibility to protect the ones he cares about. Because that is what men do Shadowsnacks said. So Perry immediately turns back to the matter at hand, "We are going to get you both out of there! Believe me!"
Perry casts Dispel Magic using the Canaith Mandolin. He will also use his Mantle of Inspiration to grant Velon, Mari, Lia, and himself an extra 11 temporary HP, AoO free movement as a reaction, and advantage on the next save you make. Good luck guys. :(
Velon watches Mari get pulled down into the tunnel with the skeletons and knows what he has to do. As his own grip begins to slip under the weight of his armor and other gear along with the tug of the skeletons he let's go and says "I'm sorry Mari, hang on" through the mental link. At that the paladin falls but does his best to land close to Mari in the manner in which he lets go of his grip and crashes down onto the skeleton horde. With two words in draconic as he falls the incorporeal gold dragon wings seen when he hatched from his egg appear and wrap around Velon and Mari, providing them some small bit of divine protection. This time there is no gold dragon head atop Velon's, however, but instead a large gold dragon neck and head appears from the top of the room and breaths an exploding ball of flame down onto the paladin, Mari and the skeletons. Velon does his best to get his shield up between himself, Mari and the explosion but it is difficult amidst the many grasping boney hands.
27 Fire damage (from Discord), DC16 Dex
As I probably stated before, all of the dragon wing and head stuff is just flavor, representing Velon's paladin protection aura and his spells, and is basically his 'cantrip like ability' now as offered by the DM at the start of the campaign. No mechanical effects or shenanigans.
Cratol replies to Poljen as he continues to lay into this creature. "They have enough help with the others. Lets finish this problem first and then see how we can assist them without worrying about this creature behind us"
Attacks 6,19, 16 and 5 Add +10 to the first two and +9 to the second two makes that 16, 29, 25 and 14 to hit
Damage 3, 1, 6,and 8 Add plus 6 to the first two and +5 to the second two makes it 12, 7, 11 and 13 for damage.
So many things happening in front of him, Lawrance scrambles mentally for a moment until the pit is filled with flame from Velon''s fireball, then plots out a solution to the dilemma. Tracing symbols rapidly in the air and forming shapes with his hands, he pulls immutable magical threads from the Weave and weaves them into walls of impenetrable force, angling and shaping the energy as he needs to. As the Wall of Force spell takes shape, the panel slips underneath the two party members, and gently rises them onto it's surface. All the other undead get forced to the lower side, and pressed back into the tunnel %Step on up when you can, you two! We're getting a rope for you, unless you like the company down there.%
“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
The assault against the hulking thing continues, it swings once again, but misses.
On the other side of the hall, the door is finally flung open as Velon and Mari are dragged down to the bottom of the pit. The skeletons quickly start to divest the pair of weapons, apparently intending to take them captive. But then Velon's fireball detonates, flinging skeletons everywhere and leaving the two mostly clear. Lawrance casts a spell, and a glowing translucent barrier appears, seperating Velon, Mari, and two of the surviving skeletons from both the tunnel and the remaining undead.
A few seconds later, the trapdoor mostly shuts, held partially open by the wall of force. For the moment though it does effectively block escape from the pit.
Mari's lungs are filled with searing heat as the fireball detonates. Her heightened reflexes enable her to escape without harm however. Sseing only two skeletons left in the immediate area, she stoops down quickly and picks up one of her short swords. She then lashes out at the enemy closest to her .
Lia shakes her head in frustration. " That bought us some time Lawrance. Hopefully Mari can find some way to disarm that trap door. How long will that wall last? "
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Velon surveys the scene at the bottom of this pit after the fireball goes off and the wall of force goes up. He sees that Mari is alive and reaches for his hammer before standing and looking up to observe the wizard's work. Glancing back over his shoulder at Mari and grinning he says "you and I have many battles left to fight together, my friend." "I'm not leaving you. I'm not sure I'd last long without you to watch my back anyhow."
Seemingly having survived what looked like a grim situation, Velon looks at the remaining two skeletons with a wicked grin as he hefts his hammer, preparing to attack. The paladin's hammer (hopefully) sends bones flying as he strikes the remaining two skeletons.
Will roll for advantage in case Velon can flank one with Mari, but if all goes well I know the advantage won't kick in on the other skeleton. Will start with the one Mari attacked if it's still 'alive' on Velon's turn. Subtracting for STR penalty here, but no GWM.
Perry looks at Lawrance with a relieved smile as the force wall protects both Velon and Mari for now. He turns to see Poljen and Cratol engaging a giant, ham-based creature. Clearly visibly upset and frustrated, Perry yells at the bizarre monstrosity, "Oy! You there, fat one! Yeah I mean you, Patches. Your face looks like a rejected K'thrissmas ham!"
Casting Vicious Mockery on the flesh golem. It needs to pass a DC18 Wisdom saving throw or take the following damage and suffer disadvantage on its next attack roll. It does not need to understand what Perry is saying to be affected.

Answering Lia through the link, Lawrance replies %I can keep it gong for 10 minutes, so that's our limit! Nothing can get through it short of a high-level magic spell. I'd be curious about just where that tunnel leads, though. To the lab or better yet the main control room for our tormentor? Mari, can you disable this trap door so it doesn't close once we turn off the wall?%
Looking over at the hulking mass of skin engaged in that familiar, lethal dance with Pol and the others, Lawrance sends off a fire bolt, unsure of the creation's resistances to magic and watching the effect.
