Can PCs move through other PCs if they say "Excuse me, please" first?
Serious question : Since it looks like I'm going first, does Strix know there's a problem and can react or do I have to spend my 1st turn whistling a halfling tune and half-heartedly acting birdlike? Also, I mentioned this before - I've never used maps and I couldn't find a reference in the PHB. Are those squares 5 feet or 10feet a side and can we move diagonally? (I did the maths, it's around 7 feet along the hippopotenuse for a 5 foot square!) Can we attack diagonally?

I know you can move diagonally and it takes 5ft of movement, so I think if the weapon's range is 5ft, which they all are, then you should be able to do so. And I assume that Asher or the other lead would have given a verbal clue. If not, here it is:
Asher sighs, "Well shit." at the sight of the goblins and wolves.
Squigs is right, you can move through allies on the map, but it counts as difficult terrain (costs 10 ft to move 5 ft). So for example, Dekhan could move to D3 and use 25 feet of movement, with 5 feet remaining.
Maps are okay, though it takes a bit of time to get used to them. Each square is 5 feet. You can move horizontally or vertically, and it costs 5 feet of movement. You can also move diagonally, and it also costs 5 feet of movement. That can seem a bit weird at first, but it make life simpler and easier. For example, Asher is on B4. He can't move to A3 because that's a wall. He can move to A4 or A5, and that will cost 5 of his 30 feet of movement for the round. You can attack diagonally without problem.
I'm going on the basis that you all walked into the cave expecting to meet resistance fairly soon, and that the goblins were expecting you because of the battle that took place the day before, so no-one is surprised.
As you all move forward, you see Asher and Dario stop and tense up, ready for battle. You are all aware that there is an enemy ahead, and those of you in the middle or back will see the exact details as soon as you move ahead a little and get line of sight.

That makes sense, given that info, can Dekhan change his action? If not no biggie.

Thanks for the clarification, sorry to be a pain!
Ok, think I can throw the axe at wolf 2 from b3. Also pretty sure I can't ready a bonus action (if I'm wrong, ready unarmed strike if anyone gets in range, following the monk attack below, unarmed 24 dmg 7)
Strix sidles forward, squeezing past Scupper and Asher, wondering what all the fuss is about. It's about a bloody big wolf. He stifles a whimper and instinctively flings his axe at its head.
(On his turn, if applicable still) Varinth will squeeze past the others to 2C to peer down the tunnel readying Burning Hands should he see back up arrive.
I got the tunnel!
Burning Hands: Damage15 Half damage if they make a Dex save
Strix, you moves smoothly past Dario, who shifts out of the way almost instinctively to let you past (to B3). On seeing the wolf, you throw your axe and it flies past Wolf, 2, leaving a nasty gash in its side. Its eyes, previously locked on Dario, shift to you.
No, it's not possible to ready a bonus action, only an action or movement.
Scupper, with Strix now in front of Asher, you move to Strix's side (C3) and ready an attack to hit the first enemy that comes into melee range.Though you are blocking the space between the wolf and Strix, it is clear that the wolf intends to attack the one who threw an axe at it. The wolf runs forward (to D3); as it is dodging to the side to avoid a strike by Dario, you stab at it with your rapier but just too slow.
At the same time, you hear, rather than see, Asher's glaive thrust to your side and stab the wolf's thigh; it is badly wounded, but still continues on to C2 and attempts to bite Strix's arm: Attack: 9 Damage: 7. The bite connects and Strix is flung back against the tunnel wall; you hear a thud, and then another as Strix's unconscious body slumps to the tunnel floor. The wolf is still gripping his arm, and shows no sign of letting go.
Asher, seeing Strix fall, you use your action to take a second strike at Wolf 2; it goes straight through the side of its head, ripping the jaws from Strix's arm and flinging the wolf's body north into the darkness; you hear a splash as it falls into the stream. You move forward into the cave, glaive twirling and striking at the goblin, but you miss.
Seeing Asher coming to attack him, the goblin uses his action to release Wolf 1, and then attempts to move back into the cave to H5, away from the battle. Asher, you can make an Attack of Opportunity if you wish.

"Oh hell yes! Bring it on you hairy bastard!"
Can I use my inspiration for this attack (Don't know if inspiration has a time limit? If not, use first roll instead of advantage.
Attack: 20 Damage: 5
Great Weapon Fighting Style for the 2nd damage die of the critical: 9 <- whoops, ignore the addition of 3. It was the same roll anyways. So that above roll stands.

I'm about to leave work for today. I'm leaving a little early for my real world D&D session, Dragon Heist if anyone was wondering lol. So I will post the second round of combat here if it comes to that.
And I hope that inspiration works because that's a crit my guys lol
Action: Glaive Attack: Attack: 18 Damage: 5
Great Weapon Fighting: If the damage is 1 or 2 use the following roll, otherwise ignore: 4
Bonus Action: Glaive Pommel: Attack: 13 Damage: 6
Great Weapon Fighting: If the damage is 1 or 2 use the following roll, otherwise ignore: 12

GODS! Varinth shouts as he sees Strix flung like a rag doll.
Varinth moves into the antichamber and sees the goblin releasing the other wolf. Shear terror turns to rage. Rage turns to heat. Heat turns to flame. Aiming at nothing in particular but the room Varinth touches his thumbs and spreads his fingers wide.
KATHOOM!
Wild Surge Check19
Burning Hands: Damage6 Dex save for half. Everything is on fire.
You can use inspiration for anything where you can potentially have advantage, so that includes this attack. There's no time limit on them, as far as I know.
Whatever the goblin was planning to do, you'll never know for sure. The corpse falls to the ground and the decapitated head bounces off the wall and rolls over to come to rest next to the unknown figure in the corner.

Yep, go ahead and change. :)
Cheers!
On his turn Dekhan will draw his sword, cast his light cantrip on it in an attempt to demorilize and disorient the goblin and move into the cave.

Ok scratch that last post. I will see what the goblin does before I make my move...

Do I know who has the berries? And if so can I see them on their person or are they in a backpack?
I believe Dario has them; Varinth would know that, but not necessarily where he's keeping them.
