Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai wracks his brain to see what he recalls, if anything, about Dragon Turtles in general (Nature roll - 10) and this one in particular (History - 7)
"Well, it probably beats trekking through the jungle, and it sounds like any ship might run afoul of this turtle. Speaking of...let me see that book we got from Volo Geddarm yesterday. Maybe it has something useful on this beast!" Kirinar thumbs through the pages to see if it has an entry on a dragon turtle.
Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai smacks himself in the head with his palm saying "you idiot Arbataveyu, you buy a tome on beasts of Chult and you forget to use it!"
Kirinar quickly finds the page on the dragon turtle he finds this entry.
Dragon turtles are among the most fearsome creatures of the oceans. As large and voracious as the oldest of its land-based dragon kin, a dragon turtle strikes with its deadly jaws, steaming breath, and crushing tail.
A dragon turtle’s rough shell is the same dark green color as the deep water where this monster dwells. Silver highlights lining the shell resemble light dancing on open water, and a surfacing dragon turtle is sometimes mistaken for the reflection of the sun or moon on the waves.
Dragons of the Deep. Like true dragons, dragon turtles collect treasure, first by sinking ships and then by sifting through the wreckage for coins and other precious items. A dragon turtle swallows treasure for transport, then regurgitates it when it reaches its lair.
Dragon turtles dwell in caves hidden in coral reefs or beneath the seafloor, or along rugged stretches of coastline.
Otimay looks over at your book. "That looks to be an excellent resource for the jungle. I'll stick to the open water myself. OK, meet me at the docks in the morning and we will set sail first thing. My crew and I will be ready."
"Looks like we have our ride! Maybe I should bring my chainmail in a chest, and pretend the chest is full of treasure? It will be heavy enough to be about the same, and maybe if that dragon turtle thing comes along we can throw the chest in the water to make it go away. That might buy us some time to escape...Or we be ready to fire our bows and crossbows at it! Either way, let's get a good meal and some sleep so that we are well rested for tomorrow's adventure!"
The following morning as the party leaves the inn to head for the docks they are approached by a man.
"Greetings and good morning. My name is Rokah. I could not help but overhear your conversation with the good captain last night. I was hoping you could aid me and in turn I could help you? I need some assistance with a situation at Fort Beluarian. If you allow me to travel with you as a member of your party I will pay the tribute necessary to pass the dragon turtle and then you can help me when we are there? I thought of approaching you last night as you left the Dented Helm but that seemed a poor time. Perhaps you would be too suspicious of that. I think the Flaming Fist is in league with pirates but need proof to bring to the authorities. Escort me safely to the fort and create a distraction so that I can ransack the commander’s quarters. That is all i need of you. A simple thing really. "
Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai looks at the man as if he is seriously considering his request (Perception roll - 9). Is there anything in his mannerisms, speech intonation etc. that he might be hiding something?

"If you don't mind, I'd like to talk this over with my comrades."
Ransyl motions his friends away and huddles them together. "Well, there are some pros and cons here. He'll pay tribute (maybe), but I for one don't want to get into the local politics. What do you think?"
Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai says "I think you're right we should stay clear of local politics. Furthermore having consulted Mr Volo's tome I note that the dragon turtle speaks Aquan as do I, which is something I suspect few others would do. Conversing with the dragon turtle in its mother tongue may stand us in good stead in reducing the tribute we need to pay! Who knows we could convince it to help us against the pirates?"
"I'll defer to your experience here. Although I agree it is unwise to mess with the local power struggles unless we need to...and I'm not sure this request covers that need..." Kirinar is, after all, a young man from a small, backwater town on the edge of a swamp. What does he know of big city issues?
Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai turns to the party and says "it would appear that we are all in fierce agreement here in that it is better if we not take this gentleman up on his offer! But you Keyloth have not as yet expressed a view! What is your thinking on this matter?"

Keyleth had been eyeing the man carefully as he spoke, with a natural suspicion born of prudence. The Flaming Fist, from what they'd heard, sound like they regularly engage in extortion, so their being in league with pirates certainly seems plausible. But there could be many other reasons this man would want help ransacking the commander's quarters.
"Sounds good to me," Keyleth chimes in. "This Dragon Turtle... it's a ship? Pirates? Or a creature of some kind. You said 'him'."

"The dragon turtle is just that. It's a massive creature that lives in the bay."

"That's not what I expected," Keyleth says matter-of-factly. "Alright, should we meet you back here first thing?"

Nothing in the man's mannerisms raise alarm. He is well dressed and does not appear to be a vagabond.
