"I don't know who this doomed child could be but I do know I didn't like that snake person." Timber states once they have left the cavern and out of ear shot.
OoC: Ok, I'm good to go. Was considering multiclassing into artificer, but stuck with rogue levels. My only worry is not having a magic bow/crossbow, if we face more gargoyles and the like in the tomb that resist non-magical damage, but I've got a few magic sling bullets and arrows to, by opposing, end them (while supplies last).
Keyleth glances toward the lava pit and then back... "How about we head east first?" she asks, scrunching her nose and looking toward the potential shrine (location 18) between the Yuan-Ti enclave and the edge of the city.
Approaching the nearby shrine you see that Monoliths adorned with prancing, frog-like figures rise from the swamp. Beyond, a ruined edifice shaped like an arrowhead squats in the muddy water. Bushes and trees grow from its roof. At the pointed front of the building, steps ascend to a stone door caked in slime.
"Every time we have to go through water, there are crocodiles or worse! And I'm wary of that slime on the steps - it probably isn't regular algae! So...do we have to swim? Maybe we let our tortle friend check out the water first...What do you say, Dr. A?" Kirinar straps his shield on his back and equips his long bow, ready to stand look-out.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Oh good. So probably not giant crocodiles. But deep enough for swarming piranhas or leeches..." the fighter grumbles. "Guess the yklwa and shield are ok after all..." He switches back to his normal configuration, then uses the weapon to probe the water in front of him as he moves towards the temple. Perception: 16
Kirinar wades into the water and finds it to only be about 2 feet deep. Despite his fear no crocodiles attack and nothing tries to feed on his legs.
But he only gets about 10 feet before a voice is heard from ahead and above. 7 small green skinned creatures you recognize as grung stand on the roof. They each have bows.
Another gold-skinned one appears at the top of the stairs with 4 orange grungs behind him.
The gold one calls out.
"I am Chief Yorb! Stay out of our home or we will defend ourselves!"
Keyleth starts to speak up but then thinks better of it, given her propensity to get flustered and trip over her words. She looks toward Kirinar and Timber, an expression on her face as if to say, "One of you want to take this?"
Kirinar bows low and replies, "Chief Yorb! Forgive our intrusion - we did not know that you claimed this temple. We are adventurers on a quest to cure the land of a terrible sickness affecting many. Our research led us here, where we believe the cause of this curse originates. In order to know for certain, we need to gain access to the main temple, so we are collecting stone tiles with the trickster gods on them. Would you by chance have one of them, and would be willing to lend it to us? Once we complete our quest we will happily return it to you!"
Dr A beaten to the punch by Kirinar's request once again activates the Helm of Telepathy to get a better understanding of see how Chief Yorb might respond.
Dr A gets the feeling that Chief Yorb has 2 primary concerns at the moment. The first is that he wants to defend his home and people. The other is concern for one of his son's who is lost.
Chief Yorb responds to Kirinar.
"Here? The cure is here in our home? We have no such stone tiles. Begone!"
Dr A calls out "Oh great chief Yorb, my name is Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai and I am servant of the arcane and the mysteries! I am reliably informed by my contacts in the other realms that one of your sons may be missing. If we were to help you locate your son perhaps you could share with us any information you might have on the terrible sickness infecting this and other lands and how it can be cured?"
"What do you know of my son being gone? How do you know this? He went south a few days ago and now he has not returned! Bring him back and I will let you search our home for this tile that you seek." Chief Yorb replies.
"What do you know of my son being gone? How do you know this?
"Oh great Chef Yorb, ahbut my contacts in the other realms grant me access to information such that your son was missing and many other things besides! But do not worry we will do our best to locate your son."Dr A replies
"He went south, huh? Not much to go on..." Keyleth says, a bit perplexed. "I guess we... head south then? We do need to get that last cube from that volcanic island, but I'm guessing the grung isn't going to be there... I guess we also need a rest first so Doc can prepare some new spells. Maybe we head to the southwest part of the city, take a look around there for the chief's son, and also keep an eye out for an empty building where we can camp?"
"I don't know who this doomed child could be but I do know I didn't like that snake person." Timber states once they have left the cavern and out of ear shot.
"Lets go get those last two cubes!"

OoC: How deep does the water seem to be between us and the entrance?
(if needed; Perception: 26)
(and also how far is it through the water?)

It's about 50 feet to the steps and would be difficult terrain. You estimate that the water probably isn't more than a couple feet deep.
