well we could set it on fire and walk away, perhaps suggesting to the guard in town that they send a detail out here to do it right.
That would be fine. The pillar of smoke would likely be visible from Vallaki, you would guess, if it doesn't get rainy. For now it's overcast, like usual.
Give me survival checks and I'll move you forward out of your short rest, into the early afternoon return to Vallaki.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Neither Barnaby nor Chubs takes part in the fire starting, but I will roll anyway as I'm not entirely sure that that's what you want the survival checks for.
Good enough to get a good fire going. As you walk away from your short rest, you're satisfied that the fire will send up a decent column of smoke, and perhaps even destroy the interior of the structure.
Rested and ready, the party - children in tow - begins the journey back to Vallaki. You follow the narrow path back down to the main road, and follow the hairpin turn back toward the west. After traveling only another half an hour, you see a small obstruction in the road. Roll a Perception check.
If you roll a 10 or higher, read this:
Its a hand-pushed cart.
If you roll a 17 or higher, read this:
It's Naomi's hand-pushed cart, from which she sells pastries in the town square..
Barnaby Perception: 8You see children, the Dewey decimal system really broke the library organization game wide open. Before it came around, there was basically chaos. In fact,...
Chubs Perception: 7, Under his breath, Good lord, not the Dewey decimal system again.
The members of the party approach the object in the road, which is situated at such an angle that it's kind of hard to tell what it is. But once the party gets within 40 feet, you can see that it's an unattended hand-pushed cart, apparently abandoned. Roll a Perception or Investigation check (just one check, but could be either).
If you roll a 10 or higher, read this:
You recognize it as Naomi's cart, from the town square in Vallaki.
Barnaby: That's Naomi's cart from the town square in Vallaki! Was Naomi the pastry seller? What would it be doing here? Perhaps she was returning back to the witches and the one that fled came upon her. I wonder what happened then? Is Naomi a witch too do you think? Is Naomi under the witches spell? Did we get a name of the witch who ran away? Did we get a name of the witch that we killed? Was it right to leave her body in the mill when we burned it down? I have so many questions its making my head hurt. Oy.
Witch bodies are indeed best burned it's my experience
Naomi was indeed the pastry seller. We know the witches we fought we good at shape shifting or illusion. It's possible there are three and the one that escaped met this one on the road coming back from selling their offal in town and the two fled together, hopefully not to stop running for a long time. I'd hate to think they would jump out of the woods at us sometime to extract revenge for their fallen partner
Survival check to look for tracks or other evidence 10
Sorry for the delay. I've been crushed from work. It should let up a little, starting next week.
The cart has a couple of unsold pastries, and - disturbingly - a compartment underneath that locks from the outside and appears to be equipped to transport a child.
You will regret your poor rolls in this situation, when you hear the following announcement:
You are surprised by the shrieks of two furious witches, as they appear from their invisibility and attack. I will post a map shortly, but, in the meantime, roll for initiative!

DESPAIR AND ANGUISH AT MY ROLLS. I've got a busy week but should be able to think creatively this upcoming weekend..
Misalyk is distracted by internal thoughts on how the witches flour might have impacted his town and isn't listening to the conversation.

Barnaby will inspect the cart for clues: Perception s18 and/or Investigation 14
Chubs will sit in the middle of the dirt road and try do dislodge a stubborn tuft of belly button lint.
Misalyk helps search the cart. "Even if they ambush us, we drove them away once surely we can do so successfully again" Investigation 18
