{As a warior of a war god, can I investigate the scene and try to piece together what happened in the fight? Basically, can I combat CSA the scene? Were the goblins trying to enter the Citadel and slain by enemies already inside or were they inside and killed by people coming in from our direction? If the gobilin pinned against the western wall, what direction did we enter this area from?}

Sure. Make an investigation check with advantage [DC 15]. To answer your next question.. there aren't any visible hostiles. The room appears empty aside from the dead gobbys.
Haha.. We'll go with religion check... Torm reveals to you... that the four goblins have been dead for quite a while, and rats have gnawed at them. The bodies have been looted.
Edit: You entered from the East if that's any consolation.
You spend a few minutes looking around the interior of the ruined tower, but find no signs of any traps. It appears to be safe enough -- though it does smell like rotting goblin corpses.
DM Note: So, from the PC perspective you have two options to continue forward -- either the wooden door set in the Northwest wall, or the door set in the Southwest wall. Both are identical in makeup and composition. You could also make camp and take a long rest.. it's approaching early evening at this point... but, its up to you guys.
As an aside at this point you are relying on darkvision, or Grom's light spell to see.
“Smells rank, but seems alright,” Arxius says, looking back at the group. “We could camp here for the night. Unless anyone wants to continue on? A number of us might need a good rest.”
"I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't see for shit," Rees grumbles. Crouching down for a moment, she pulls the hooded lantern from her gear and lights it, holding it high to help aid those without dark vision.
I'm happy to push forward. If we want to camp for the evening, why not climb the stairs and set up camp a bit away from the citiadel. We might be able to find a more defensable position. And at least the air might be a little cleaner.

Arxius crouches by one of the dead goblins and pokes it with an arrow. "I've slept in worse," she says, glancing over her shoulder at Alten. "We could throw these extras down your trap."
Talien tosses all of the bodies down the trap that Alten fell in. (while waiting on a response about the doors because they may well be easily barricaded)

As you remove the spear pinning the goblin to the wall, the body slumps to reveal runes on the wall behind it. The runes are carved into the wall and appear to belong to some sort of ancient language, but none of you can comprehend, or ascertain their meaning.
You toss the rest of the goblin corpses into the trap outside. The odor of death still hangs in the room, but it is starting to give way to must. Hinges are not visible from this side of either new door, but you see them on the door to the east which also has fixtures for a drop bar — though the bar itself lays broken a short distance from the door. You sift through the debris for a few moments and find a long board that looks like it could work in its stead.
Talien bars the first door, and collects the broken bar by the door. He then crosses the room to the other door and looks at it. Is there a handle or a ring used to open it? (He does not open it or touch it) (trying to discern how it opens before touching it)

{Sorry, obviously first thing is to look around the room and make sure there are know obvious hostiles in there.}

Who ever has the best perception should go a few feet ahead and check for traps as we move in.
