Noticing Reynard starting to hide, Alton whispers “should I dim my lantern?”
”So” he asks the group as they gather, and he looks at the unfamiliar faces. “I was not given much detail. Who are we here to find?”
Another halfling? Their scout perhaps. Not familiar with sewers? Alton glances at Erik and then back to the larger folk. A knight, calling for the city watch. That’s good. The rest of them fighters maybe?
The curly haired bard shutters the lantern a little to keep the beam away from Reynard and shoulders his lute. Peering down the passageway, he falls into the back of the pack. No sense getting myself into danger yet, until I know what is going on. Mystra guide me! What secrets are down here and why was I chosen for this?

Odyssey | Daishi Longguard | Human | Healthy | Perception: 13 | Equipped: old leather armor, green cloak, fine clothes, signet ring | Wielding: shortsword, shield | map
Soar leaves the Kenku at the warehouse, and calls the city guard; whether any guards actually heard her is questionable.
After an hour of following signs through the tunnels, you come to a three-way intersection where a ladder leads up into a stone shaft capped by a circular metal cover. One of the familiar chalk symbols is marked on a wall nearby, and floating near the symbol is a spherical, grapefruit-sized creature with a bulging central eye and four stumpy eyestalks. It bares its teeth at you.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(OOC: I'm going to guess it's evil, bahaha)
Soar stops up short as soon as she sees it, and tries to remember her training she's received about undead/fiends/beasts to see if she can recognize what it is (vanilla d20 roll 19, +0 nature or arcana, +2 religion).
How close are we to it? What's the layout of the tunnel? She's ready to attack if she remembers this being an evil creature, but won't stop anyone from trying to communicate with it.
The marking is clear which path you should go down.
Soar has heard of beholders, and while this creature is much smaller than they are supposed to be she supposes that this is some kind of kin of the eye tyrants.
You are at a T in the sewers, with a exit to the streets above as well. You are close enough for ranged attacks.
Soar readies a javelin and will attack if the mini-beholder does anything other than speak peacefully to them. She's reasonably clear that this is like a beholder, which she's definitely learned is pure evil, but there's still that part of her that's willing to hope for the best.
(OOC: who is in the sewer? Sorry, I've lost track again of who's in the party now!)
“Hey you! What do you want?” Alton says to the creature in common, and repeats it in undercommon. “You better not fight us! If you want to do that, you better just scram.”

Reynard moves to the front alongside the bugbear. He slides his ornate rapier from its jewelled scabbard and drops easily into a fencer’s stance. He eyes the aberration carefully, not making any aggressive movement but prepared to fight if needed.
The gazer bobs in the air, blinks with its main eye and then its eyestalks, and then freezes, as if thinking whether or not it could take all of you on; growing uncertainty is in it's eye.
Suddenly, it turns in the air and flees down the tunnel marked with the yellow symbol, screaming "INTRUUUUDERRRRS!" in a tiny shrill voice as it flies with surprising speed! If you're going to take a shot at the little spy, now's probably your last chance!
(No need to roll initiative, just make a ranged attack if you can and want to!)

Kruk waits for the rest to join him, seeming unbothered by the sewers or at least very skilled at playing that he is.
