”Well he might come to harm if we don't hurry!” Dwaye says as before kicking open the double doors, one again readying his Warhammer for an attack if something evil comes too close.
Dwaye, with a sense of urgency, kicks down the double doors!
Threadbare curtains hang on the east wall of a long hall, in the middle of which a muscular half-orc in dingy robes stands with his foot on the chest of a male human with wavy red-blond hair. Fire burns around the half-orc's clenched fist, and his victim cries and squirms helplessly beneath him.
Renaer can't contain himself on seeing this sight. "Floon!"

Seated on a raised platform to the south is a nightmarish figure wearing black robes. It has large white eyes and rubbery purple skin, with four tentacles encircling its inhuman mouth. It cradles and gently caresses what looks like a disembodied brain with feet.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Your readied action counts as your action, I think.)
Dwaye, seeing Floon in dire need of help, smashes the half-orc wizard with his warhammer, sending the wizard sailing into the curtained wall to the east. Any regular humanoid would have died to such a strike.
But those with orcish blood are not regular humanoids.
"Ugh. Who the hell are you?" he asks, as he rises to his feet, bloodied.
(Grum'shar the Half-Orc Wizard's initiative: 1)

Meanwhile, the tentacled creature has placed its pet gently on the ground. It continues to sit, watching with unblinking eyes.
”Just somebody looking to help” Dwaye says, sweat dripping heavily from his face
[I readied my action on one ”Turn”, then came in, used my reaction, now it’s my turn again. So I should be able to attack, yea? In other words, I think if you ready an action on one turn, it costs an action then, but only costs a reaction later to activate it, so I should still have my action from my first combat turn]
Soar enters the room behind Dwaye, hoisting the javelin that speared the gazer. This is not the careful planning that her chapterhouse taught in military training exams. Here she was, following this person she met maybe an hour ago rush headlong into a thieves den.
She shouts at both orc and illithid to drop their hands to their sides and release their captive now.
If they don't immediately do that, she will attack:
She hoists the javelin and tries to hurl it immediately at the illithid, because she knows exactly what it can do in a battle. She's heard the stories.
Initiative: 13
Attack: 12 Damage: 2
(mobile not cooperating - there' a +5 missing from the attack and +3 missing from the damage)
”Oh... Oh no...” Dwaye says to himself while looking at the now up Mind Flayer. He then swings towards the Mind Flayer, his hands shaking with fear, as he's heard the legends. Attack: 6 Damage: 10
[Why are we facing a CR 7 creature?!? The optimal CR for one creature is 2 for a team of 5-6 1st level characters! It even says ”For a more perilous battle, match up the characters with a legendary creature whose challenge rating is 1 or 2 higher than optimal”, THIS IS 5 HIGHER THAN OPTIMAL! WHAT?]
[Unless this is an altered Mind Flayer with lower stats, this fight is most likely going to kill at least some of us]
[A creature with a CR of 7 (Such as the Mind Flayer) is recommended for a team of four 5th level characters!]
[Edit: All this info is from Xanathar’s Guide, but I'm fairly sure it was originally from the DMG]
(To assuage your fears: The mind flayer isn't interested in fighting, it will attempt to leave the area on its turn, possibly mind controlling one of you if you get in the way; this encounter isn't meant to be a total party kill.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((Sorry for the delay, I've been asleep!! UK here :) ))
Reynard rushes bravely into the fray, rapier sliding from its scabbard as he spins in place. With a side step and a forward roll he closes the distance with the wizard, trying to get a strike in before it blasts someone with a spell [Mobile feat allowing 40' movement.]
Initiative: 10
If I win initiative over the wizard and can attack:
Rapier (melee) Attack: 11 Damage: 6
[[EDIT: Argh! Just when it matters, Reynard fails to deliver! I'll leave you to describe the effects of the natural one when the time comes! :D ]]
[No problem, we all have to sleep at some point. Also, the wizard will go first, so I think it's up to the DM if they want to make that attack roll your attack when your turn rolls around, or if you need to make a different roll when that time comes]
Sorry but this is moving faster then I can keep up with or keep track of all that happens while I'm not able to be on so Kruk is going to have to drop out.
(Sorry to see Kruk drop but I understand; please take care.)
(For that matter, how do others feel about the pace of things? Because of when I'm awake certain players have had more to do than others, I'm afraid. Does anyone have suggestions?)
(Yeah that is kind of the reaon I am leaving. Since my last post alot of things have happened and Kruk was pretty much left standing there as everyone else ran ahead. I can't keep up due to work so fast moving games like this make it hard for me to make a proper reply. I hope the rest of you continue to have fun though and wish you all the best.)

Pulling the javelin from its side, the mind flayer stands up.

(So far Soar and Dwaye have attacked; waiting on initiative rolls from Reynard, Kruk, Deryus, Erik, and Alton.)
