"I have no issues with an ambush, sounds like a smart plan. Stand off to the side of any doorways or entry ways and they wont be able to shoot with a bow from outside. We have the numbers now, whether it be 2 that come or 4 that come." Forge packs away his notebook and stands ready to take on whatever his companions decide.
Krakkan apologizes, "Sorry, sorry. You're right, they might have some information... Where I come from though, those little green beasts are nothing but vermin. I speak their language, but usually don't let them get more than a word out before I end it. If given the chance, I'll try my best to keep them alive." He checks to make sure that his equipment is ready and then looks back to the group, "Ambush it is, and this time, I'll try not to cut them in half." He lets out a chuckle and then waits for the trap to be set.
I can't remember, did we say that Krakkan retrieved his hand axes before moving to the temple? if not, how difficult would it be to get them back?
(Any thrown/dropped weapon can be retrieved at the end of combat without having to state it. Same for half the ammunition used)
How are you pulling of the bait for the trap? If it is just minor illusion by the temple, you suspect that they either won't hear it, or it would be loud enough that if there are goblins to the south (where no one has looked yet) they would also hear it, as would potentially anything outside the walls.
Also, are people going to attempt to raise the drawbridge?
Sounds like nobody else wants to raise the drawbridge, and Hawk can’t do it alone. He will just await patiently around for the ambush. Bow and arrows at the ready!
Okay Bert! You’re up then! Get those Greenies in here!
Zook will have Krakkan teach him how to say, in goblin speak, the phrase “Hey, guys.. over here... I found more gold in the temple. Come help me carry it.”
Then, using an illusory voice that sounds like an actual goblin speaking, he’ll stand at the door of the temple, and cast the sound right at the door of the inn, which should be within the 30’ range of the spell.
Assuming that someone can perhaps look out the window and alert the rest of us if they take the bait, Zook will then instruct everyone to their hiding places inside the temple, then create an illusory pile of gold about 10 feet inside the open door.
Someone should be behind the door(s) so that they can close them behind anyone who comes in. Everyone in agreement?
"That's... a very impressive idea, Zook. Well done! I didn't know you could do that. Do you think I should go outside to be our eyes, in case something else happens? Or wait, that might be a better job for our owl friend, right Forge? Position him to be able to see the inn and the temple and then we'll know if they're taking the bait or a lot more critical."
If anyone thinks it'd be good to have a rogue hidden outside with bow drawn, Bert will go do that (stealth 18). But if it makes sense to just let the illusions and the owl handle the outside work, he'll set up just inside the door to the temple and wait for a goblin to talk all the way inside, ready to knock it out with the flat of his rapier blade.
"I do like the drawbridge idea, but I'm a little worried it would be noisy and attract a lot of attention. If you think we can do it quietly, then I'm game, Hawk."
"I think that Forge's owl friend would be better suited to the job of reconnaissance. That offers the best view with the least chance of any of us being spotted. He can let us know if they take the bait, or if they change position. I think we should concentrate on one thing at a time. Let's deal with the two goblins in the inn first and then go from there."
Bert would love to help Zook with his performance, by giving him any kind of guidance he can on where exactly the sound should manifest for full effect, where he saw the goblins, what they sounded like, what other sounds there were out there, etc.
Forge positioning himself off to the side of the doorway that they are expecting company to come through and doesn't want to be seen, "Okay guys I'm in position." and Forge will move his mind back to Alf, positioning him to do flyby patterns about 60ft. in the air between the Inn and the Temple keeping an eye out for when the goblins begin to head over and also if we grab the attention of any extra potential enemies heading to the temple from elsewhere other than the Inn(if that's possible).
Perception for Alf in case you require it to keep an eye for extra enemies from other directions: 19
“Why yes, Bert, I would surely welcome your assistance! Since I can keep the illusion going for a full minute, you can give me guidance as to how and where I should place the sound.”
When everyone is ready, Zook pull forth another pinch of fleece and begins casting his cantrip.
(looking at the map you wouldn't be in range as 1 square is 10ft, but you can make it come from the edge of the graveyard, which is 30ft from the inn door and at a volume that no one else should really hear it as everything else in a radius from there has been look at)
You have the sound and you think it sounds pretty good. But Krakkan can tell the pronunciation is a bit off, and the voice isn't quite goblin-like, with you not having heard many goblins.
While Alf is flying around he sees one goblin poke its head out of the inn and then head back in, a muffled noise from the inn, and then nothing. Alf then sees a different goblin leave through the broken section of the inn and start loading food from the rubble (The NW of the inn) into a sack. The bait didn't seem to work
"Okay, they didn't take the bait, but peeking out there to the NW corner now, it seems like there's a gobin in our line of sight who would see a five-foot-tall pile of gleaming gold in the doorway, if we got his attention with a louder noise, or throwing a rock on the cobblestones between here and there."
"So why don't we give the bait and lure idea one more try, with the pile of gold in the doorway, and I'll throw a rock along the ground between here and there (dex ability check 15) and if we get its attention, great. If not, we're probably going to have to storm the inn and detain one of them to find out what's going on and where the people went. Mandaway, they're stealing trinkets but also food, so maybe a full-on slaughter isn't called for, but at the same time, they're looting an empty town and tried to kill us."
If there's approval of trying the bait idea one more time, Bert will give the rock idea a shot.
OOC: My bad... I though the scale was 5'/square. Then again, that seemed a little tight. Editing to reflect Bert's post that went up before mine.)
"That sound like a better plan, Bert, since I clearly don't make a very good goblin."
Grabbing another pinch of fleece from his belt pouch, Zook makes the biggest, most beautiful looking pile of gleaming gold and shiny gems right in the doorway, just where Bert has instructed.
(I think guidance roll of 2 means that the dex ability check for throwing the rock exactly where it would make noise that gets the goblin's attention to the gold illusion means that Bert's roll of 15 is really a 17?)
Since everyone seems to be on board, Bert will throw the stone between the temple door and the goblin and then duck to the side, peering around the doorframe slightly, waiting for the goblin to come inside, with the flat of his rapier ready to smack it on the head.
