So curious question for the peanut gallery. If someone targets a person under Sanctuary and fail the save, so attacks another creature within 5ft of their original target and lands the hit... can they then for free target them with its splash effect, or would that trigger the spell again?

@BDaddly: That's what I was thinking at first, but then doubted myself. Thankfully, it all worked out! With that said, unless there's who can do so or ye got a preference Bdaddly, I'll take on the 3rd levels next and leave the 5ths to ye. Hopefully this upcoming monday at that.

They won by capturing all four points, not by holding points for 5 rounds. You don't like four CP because it can be won without focusing on attacking but instead by focusing on the objective. I don't think this is inherently a bad thing, however, it does seem to catch people by surprise each time it happens.
As for Paladin's getting disadvantaged. You made a character that focuses on burning resources quickly, because it is typically beneficial in this game. Situations where you run out of spells without the victory are rare and will remain rare. In this event you did. However, mixing things up with events is going to deviate your outcomes some times. I don't think we should stop doing occasional large PvE events because characters here aren't designed specifically for them.
Large PvE events aren’t the issue. Throwing me back into a match when I didn’t know that would happen was the issue. If I had known, I would have used my resources more carefully and it would have been fine. I don’t like 4 CP because it’s sedentary, boring, and I doubt anyone actually feels they accomplish something winning by objective.
Has it always been 4 flags captured is a win? I never remember reading that before.
But anyways. This is by far not the first 4 CP match that’s been off—every single match I’ve played involving it has been annoying, anticlimactic and boring.
And in the future if you’re going to pull something like this, continuing a match people probably thought was done? At least let us know beforehand. As I said, would have played completely differently. Playing differently isn’t the issue—it’s not knowing you need to until it’s too late.
Besides the fact that I’m not entirely sure why we played out that match instead of just doing a new level 6 one, especially since Horatio was level 5.
Currently playing in: Quest for the Shunned City, Coliseum of Conquest, DragonDenn's Dragonlords, Shipwrecked on Fugue, Tomb of Annihilation, Razor's Lost Mine of Phandelver, The Lost Kenku & One Grung Above
Currently DMing: Princes of the Apocalypse, Out of the Abyss, Coliseum of Conquest—The Arena (Sometimes)
On another note, I assume for the championship match its fine to removal all but the Survival and King of the Hill as options for it? Since both force a duel in their own ways, whether than there being like.. 5 rounds of peeka-boo, ignoring of the boss anyways to duke things out in tower defense, and so forth.

I'd also like to ask about Tasha's, would be nice to pick up some of the optional class features. I'm assuming it's allowed since it's an official sourcebook, just want to make sure.

I certainly have no qualms against it, but I'm not the only running matches. It's especially a boon for rangers, as most of their early level stuff miss out big compared to other classes.

Now here's a slightly more complicated question—what about the Tasha's suggestions for changing subclasses? The Ancients spell resist aura is super nice, but if it was an option I might think about changing to Devotion. For uh . . .no reason. Definitely not a free +3 on attack rolls.

okay so I have a more polished version of the tower mapped out now. I think this style works a bit better. Idk what happened to the grid on that last map I made but maybe this one will stay.
So how would you rule on the changing subclasses? They gave a few possible options (money, time, etc.).
The reason I'm considering switching to Devotion is just its amazing synergy with GWM. I'm playing a non GWM pally in a different campaign, and I have a +12 to hit without bless (at level 9). That being said, not sure if I'm willing to give up Ancients' power against spellcasters.

Which there are a lot of spellcasters, yes. lol. But if you're confident of being able to get in their grill, or willing to pick up anti-blaster sort of gear, it ain't all bad. Though, I don't know all this about changing subclass(haven't found that part in the book yet), but if its another money sink, sounds good for an inbetween matches thing. And, can help out those who feel like they've made an early game mistake or picked up a subclass that peeters out after said early game.
@Bdaddly: Love'n the new map. Still not sure if the bushes were ever just difficult terrain, provide some cover, or just fancy addornment spots though.

@Bdaddly: Cool beans. Guess there'll be a bit of low balling and experimenting for a bit.

I don't see any reason green flame blade's secondary target would not be affected by Sanctuary

For sure, rangers get a huge bonus from it. My channel divinity being mostly useless is my main concern.

I haven't looked into the book much, but what I have read looks super reasonable (I haven't checked Ranger yet, but who cares about rangers anyway.)
...
Changing Subclass as described in Tasha's guide seems like a wholly positive change to me.
...
Devotion always had a big potential to hit bonus. That's why Adair ran Devotion.
