Kai tenses a little but offers the kids a small smile. "I never said you weren't kids. All I said was that you also show as Illusionary magic. Maybe something in the house is causing that?" Kai will offer ththe kids a slight reassuring smile, even though she herself knows the truth. Better to keep them cooperative than hostile. She thinks.
After a moment she will nod to the house. "How about you two stay here while we check out the house and sort this mess out?"
(Did the kids not give an answer to the whereabouts of the beast? Since I asked that before pointing out the illusions?)
I'm answered that before, but if there was some confusion in the way I delivered the information consider this: they've only heard the monster. Never actually seen it.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"You've been very helpful," Kayla speaks kindly to the children. "You know, when I as a kid, I liked to sneak around and see if I could listen to the other people in the caravan. Nobody ever thinks to look for a child. I don't suppose you overheard anything from your parents or maybe their guests?"
Kai nods and smiles gently at Rose. "That's alright. How about you two stay out here with Nightgleam while the rest of us investigate the house for the monster? Or if you'd like, you could come with us inside. Explore the house with us. Make it into a little game." Kai will look to the rest of the group, her decision obvious but wanting to see how the others would like to handle this.

Kayla knows she's grasping at straws, particularly if the 'children' were just a lure but she wanted every scrap of information she could. She might be an adventurer now but that didn't mean she had to be foolish about it.
Kayla knows she's grasping at straws, particularly if the 'children' were just a lure but she wanted every scrap of information she could. She might be an adventurer now but that didn't mean she had to be foolish about it.
"they would always lead us straight to our room, I don't know what else I can say"Says a bit frustrated while Thorn was looking intrigued at Nightgleam.
Kai lightly places a hand on Kayla's shoulder and offers her a slight smile. "I think they've told us all that they know. So unless you two would like to accompany us inside, you can stay right here and accompany Nightgleam while we discuss our plan as a group."
Kai will head back to a group huddle and look between everyone. "Personally, these two do not seem to be hiding anything from us. However, if we proceed into the houses we should do so with caution. Even if they are being truthful, the rest of the house is still a mystery. Although I must say, I would personally like to see what is up with this house and its stench of the undead."
Kai will also update her sketch of the house floor plans with the use of Torvus' rough sketch as well.
"The house becomes all the more interesting. I've rarely seen undead- mostly goblins and the odd orc," Kayla replies.
It was also worrying. Only higher level undead were capable of spellcasting and it would have to be powerful to produce illusions like the children. Of course, it could be something else and Kayla reminded herself not to make too many assumptions.
Kai nods at Kayla's response and looks to the others. "I believe that's two for adventuring in? What about the rest of you?" Kai will look between Torvus, Benito, and Bukowyr, awaiting the majority vote.

"You can't get in a place that reeks death and deceives the senses without a hunter. I am not staying behind with some kind of monster inside to be tracked down and killed."
Kai nods and claps her hands slightly. "Well... I think that's majority. Torvus, this will help with your research nonethelsss and it's an adventure for you Benito. Let's head inside carefully and see what we can find out." Kai will move to cast light on one thing from everyone (of their choice) to provide almost a torch for them before following Bukowyr to the door, giving the 'kids' one more reassuring smile. "We'll be back as soon as we get this monster sorted out. Just stay here with Nightgleam and be safe."
Assuming the door is not trapped, the group will head inside (or at least that's what it seems is going to happen).
Once inside, Kai will dutifully sketch the floor plans in her notebook as they go through rooms. Her maps are simple, copying the shape of the room roughly, marking any door anand windows the group can see, as well as anything else that seems interesting or important. She finishes each room with a neat label of what she assume the room was for. All other notes go along the margin of the map under a label for their respective room. (Basically both a cluttered and OCD map. Cluttered to most people but easily readable by Kai).
Please send me your character images trough a PM in order to update the battle map ...
Actually I think I can share a link for roll20, I have dynamic lighting over there, so you guys wouldn't be able to wander unexplored areas and will have control of your token to send screenshot of positioning. Let me know what do you guys think.
For the future: I am willing to make app versions of anyones character if they want (although facial hair and some other features may not be applicable due to the app I am using). I figured this would be a good time to mention it as the dm is asking for character pictures. (Obviously these app versions will not ne available for this first battle map but may be used in the future as long as the dm allows it).
All right so you guys can check the link that I added in the previous post you'll see the character sheet of everyone, I'm only missing the images for your tokens in order to fully update it with the actual sight data for the dynamic light setting.
Every character has the option to be edited by anyone, please don't do it, I only set it like that so anyone could check their character whenever they log in to roll20
If you are not familiarized with Roll20 it'll look something like this:
Torvus assents with a grim look. "Something's rotten here. Besides, whoever can create these illusions is obviously an entity of significant magical skill. I'm very interested in having a conversation with them about the intricacies of how they made it so convincing. You see, the runes involved would be—", but he stops himself before he gets too carried away in his enthusiasm.
"Er, yes, that is to say, let's make sure these poor children are relieved of their terrible burden." He nods sagely.
Examining the door for traps with much care, Bukowyr makes sure it is safe for everyone to approach, opening the door to repeat the investigation of the next area and just then having the companions stepping in.
"This can be done in partnership with someone else, if you wish to help."
A wrought-iron gate with hinges on one side and a lock on the other fills the archway of a stone portico. The gate is unlocked (No traps of any nature), and its rusty hinges shriek when the gate is opened. Oil lamps hang from the portico ceiling by chains, flanking a set of oaken doors that open into a grand foyer.
Hanging on the south wall of the foyer is a shield emblazoned with a coat-of-arms (a stylized golden windmill on a red field), flanked by framed portraits of stony-faced aristocrats. Mahogany-framed double doors leading from the foyer to the main hall are set with panes of stained glass.
(I'm just missing Benito's Portrait, but once I have it I'll update the image)
Kayla swallows hard at the disapproving faces of long-dead lords. There was just something so impersonal and cold about the room for all its lavishness. Meant to impress and not welcome, she decided. Well, they weren't here to admire the scenery.
"Well... here we are. Try the doors? I think I can get it with a spell," Kayla suggests.
With the assent of her companions she'll cast mage hand to open the doors.
I'm answered that before, but if there was some confusion in the way I delivered the information consider this: they've only heard the monster. Never actually seen it.
(I was aiming for location of the house based on where the sounds seemed the loudest to them? But what you gave is also fine. )
