Soar raises her eyebrows and looks at Jalt while pointing at his armor. She watches the light from the sword play over Bazavur’s face. She hands Tangle the gloves, and asks if anyone else could better use the boots.
She walks through the passage and looks around. Did it seem like this is as many cultists as were here before? Is it everyone she saw, except Neronvain and the dragon? What does it seem like they were doing here, before the group arrived? Planning more attacks? Settling in? Closing up shop? Packing to leave? Anything else that seems notable about the state of things? She looks again, on the bodies and also areas inside that seem like where business was conducted to find any scrap of evidence of orders or plans or records or anything.
If she finds nothing that would change her basic assumptions, she picks up her twig and casts locate object on Jalt’s staff of healing.
Soar, there were far more cultists here before. You're not sure if any of those here now are the ones you spoke to or saw before - perhaps some of the faces are a bit familiar. Inspecting the area where they were, you can't see any sign of a purpose or activity. Nothing notable, and no documents with orders.
“We came here to find our belongings right? Should we keep going to see if more is still here? Or is this good?” Bazavur shoots a glance over towards Tangle. “I’m aware of what she wants to do. But what about you two?” On the second sentence Bazavur turns his attention to Jalt and Soar.
Soar, you search the two rooms and two more rooms beyond them. Aside from the basic living provisions of the cultists you have found, the rooms appear to have been stripped bare recently, and there is nothing of value and no sign of your other belongings. You do find a secret door, leading to a fifth empty room and then into the dragon's lair itself. But again, there's nothing to be found as far as you can tell, and no other cultists. You appear to have cleaned out what was left of this former dragon lair.
Soar finishes walking through, and then telepathically reaches out to confirm with Candelabra that there has been nothing of interest happening outside.
"Well, here's how it stands. The dragon and Neronvain aren't here, and some of the cultists left. I have to assume they took most of our gold and possessions. These cultists stayed for some reason, maybe they were about to leave, or planning more attacks, or waiting for someone to return, or up to something else. Only Jalt could find out by talking to one of their corpses. I'd like to know if there is any remaining threat here for Altand to deal with. Nothing obvious here, but who knows. Seems the complex has been cleared out, Tangle. So unless someone else has anything else they'd like to do... what I want to do, Bazavur, is leave. We failed here. We traded Chuth back one of their allies to regain our lives. Neronvain brings back most of our assets, and a lot of information about us, to the cult leaders. It's a good thing we didn't take notes at the council meetings or they'd have information about them. Plus we lost the black dragon mask. Some cultists left, perhaps we could track them overland, but they could have days' head start on us, and it'd be up to one of you to find their tracks... I can't tell much from a bed of leaves on the forest floor. So I'd like to leave. That's my answer, Bazavur. I'd be curious what Jalt has to say. Oh!"
She pauses, and looks at everyone's hands, confirming no one is wearing any rings. Same for the cultists. If she sees no rings, she casts locate object to find the nearest ring within 1,000 feet. If she sees rings on people, she casts it to find the ring the pixies gave her. she assumes she finds nothing, but she had to try.
And then, looking at Tangle, she casts it one final time to find the arrow of dragon slaying.
After that, she's ready to leave, unless someone has something else to do. Basically back to Altand, inform them that the cultists and the lost prince and the dragon are gone, possibly for good. Check in with Gwen, see if any memories have returned, and ask if she'd like to stay here or go with Soar back to Waterdeep. She doesn't want to, but she knows she has to go back to face the consequences of her failure with the council, and give a complete report of what happened. If they want her help to continue on, she is game, but if not, she understands. Tangle has revenge on her mind, it seems, (Soar would gently ask the eladrin about that) and if she'd like Soar's help in that, she would offer her... axe, and flail. She'd ask what Bazavur and Jalt want to do.
Jalt grabs the armor that was stolen from him and packages it up for the next time they decide to take a long rest. If it seems that everything is gone, he is ready to return to Altand.

Hoard of the Dragon Queen - Jalt Rhogar - Dragonborn Cleric (9)
Bazavur tags along behind Soar as she searches what’s left of the cave/dragon’s lair holding his reacquired sword aloft for light. He listens quietly during her speech and rests a gentle hand on her shoulder after she admits that the group failed. Bazavur believes she takes a lot of blame for that and is trying to comfort her in someway.
When asked what he wants to do he replies simply, “ I am ready to return when you are.”
Soar, Candelabra reports that there are no hostile creatures around, at least not large ones that would threaten you. Your spell reveals no rings on the cultists and none I think on your companions either. Definitely no sign of the ring the pixies gave you.
You leave the dragon lair, En rejoining you on the outside, and you return to Altand. Once again, the journey takes a little over a day, and you are not attacked on the way.
It's now the early morning, and you are standing in the centre of Altand, up in the trees on the wooden walkways above the forest floor. People are going about their business around you; there are some polite inquiries, as you are recognised, but most people are keeping out of your business.
Soar finds the guard who they'd spoken with before, and gives her a full update about the lair. The dragon and elf prince are gone, but had left behind a half dozen cultists, who no longer breathe. "I think we'll rest here and then make our way back to Waterdeep. I regret we didn't defeat the dragon, but we do seem to have driven it off, and the cult won't come back for a long time, perhaps forever. I hope so."
She looks to Jalt, Bazavur, and Tangle, and pauses.
"I'm going to spend some time with the foundling. Then find our horses and head to Waterdeep to let them know what happened here. See what they want to do with us. With me -- that's what I'm going to do." She blinks, not tears in her eyes, but she's working through something. "What are you going to do? The cult is out there. They know who we are, what we're trying to do. They've beat us. We helped. Our allies are going to be crestfallen. Who knows what happens next. But I want to see this through. I wouldn't blame any of you for giving up. Part of me wants to. But more of me doesn't. If you want to see what happens next, I will be right there with you."She touches the space on her left hand where the ring that the pixie princesses had been, her eyes distant for an instant.
Soar, you deliver your report and tie up the loose ends in Altand. Gwen is glad to see you, but asks if you will be taking her with you when you leave.
As you speak with the others, Tangle seems distracted, though this has been the way since the defeat at the hands of the green dragon.
"Would you like to come back with me? I will keep you safe and advocate for you in the city and try to help find you answers and perhaps your family. If that is what you want, I can do that. If you would like to stay here, you can do that with my blessing. I still am very curious about how you found yourself where you did, amid those plants. Perhaps we can ask someone who knows the area, or has studied the flora of the region about it in Waterdeep, if no one around here knows anything. But what do you want to do?" she says to Gwen, sitting on the ground next to her, looking her straight in the eyes. How's the girl's mental state, and has anything changed? Soar's completely at a loss of what happened with this girl but her attention is back on it and she's trying to look at things from a new perspective, to see if she's missed something from before.
Also, has En stuck near Soar? What are they doing? Have they said anything at all? Soar would like to figure out their deal, and would try to converse with them as much as they would tolerate.
En is around, not volunteering anything. Looks a bit glum in fact. Not chatty. You might have better luck on the road.
Gwen says, in a small voice, "I want to go with you." She doesn't seem to have an opinion on everything you've mentioned about your plans to investigate her origins, or doesn't want to talk about it.
Gwen doesn't seem very sure of what she wants, but you can't get a better read on her than that. The person who has been looking after her here seems willing to take her in, if that's your choice.
Soar holds her arms out, despite herself. “Then you should come with me. Maybe we can find out more about you. It’ll be an adventure,” she says. There’s a hint of a tired smile, the first anyone’s seen on her face in a long time.
She’s ready to head back to Waterdeep. If there is daylight left over that can be right away but if it’s late they can stay the night in Altand and leave at dawn.
Gwen agrees, and you gather her and the rest of the party up and make your farewells to Altand and the Misty Forest.
You head north once again along along the Trade Way towards Daggerford and beyond it the City of Waterdeep. Several days pass on the road. The mood in the party is uncertain. Thoughtful. Reflective, perhaps? It's up to you; would you characters talk through what has happened, or keep to your own thoughts?
Tangle certainly keeps her own counsel, until the day she decides she can't any longer. It's a brief parting, with a quick, firm hug to each of you. She will travel east, she says, guided by an instinct she doesn't fully understand, in pursuit of the quarry that brought her here from the Feywild. She has no gifts for you as she goes, only words of encouragement in your battle against the dragoncult. Are they heartfelt, or is she just saying what she thinks you might want to hear? You cannot be certain. You make your farewells and watch her disappear across the hills to the north of the Misty Forest, alone.
Gwen seems happy to be back with you again, and eager to spend more time with Bazavur and Jalt, not just with Soar. She doesn't seem afraid or as timid as she may have done before; she cannot seem to remember anything more about her past, and you know that this saddens her. Whether you try to cheer her up, or leave her to her thoughts is again your choice.
Soar, En also seems to be in better spirits now that the forest is behind them. They explain that though fond of the forests, there was something about that one that troubled them and they are glad to see other places in this world now. They express their desire to continue to travel with you, though not for what purpose, but also remind you that they will leave should you wish it. They mostly interact with Soar still, but will occasionally ask questions to Jalt and Bazavur - they seem curious about dragonborn and their relationship with actual dragons, seemingly ignorant of the dragonborn people's histories and cultures.
After several days of travel, you reach the small town of Daggerford, and a place you might stop to rest, if you wish. It's been a hard and lonely few days on the mostly deserted roads - in this time of crisis, travellers and traders are fewer and fewer, as are guards and patrols. It might be nice to see some people for a change?
Soar would normally be chatting and trying to process everything verbally, but she's still quiet. If Jalt or Bazavur wish to talk, she'll talk, but she's not going to push anything. She tells Tangle before she leaves, "I can't tell you how much I appreciate all you've done to help us. If you need anything, come find me. I'll help. I wish you luck in your future challenges. Goodbye, Tangle."
She engages with Gwen, and encourages her to talk more with Bazavur and Jalt. And En. She hopes that those two might talk more and perhaps something En knows might jog her memory, or jog their memory of something fey that might be responsible for her plight. She pulls En aside and asks them to try to judge how she's really doing, if she's hiding anything inside, or if something is being hidden from her. She's heard their people can read minds, or something (she's wrong, but I think there's a feature they have that lets them read general emotional state? It seems like it could be very useful here). She's happy to have him along.
Has En turned invisible to Soar's knowledge yet? What has she seen them do? She does ask more about the princesses and wants to hear stories about the fey realm. If they know about Tiamat and the cult and the conflict here. If there is any more he's willing to tell her about why he was sent to her.
Soar is fine stopping in Daggerford, though she is wary of cult spies and how much she and the dragonborn boys may be hunted. "Perhaps we want to let them think we are dead or defeated? I could stop in town and pick up some supplies, disguised. Then again, we have no coin at all. So it seems we'll be living off the land until we can get to allies. We really are in a sorry state."
She will go into town if the boys have any ideas of what she could do, but otherwise she'd suggest bypassing it and keep moving. If she goes in, she'll use Mask of Many Faces to appear as a half-elven hunter, woodswoman. Gwen is welcome to come with her if so.
En isn't sure how Gwen is feeling, and claims to have no special abilities in that direction. They haven't turned invisible that Soar has noticed, though they do seem good at not being around whenever a fight breaks out. En knows little about Tiamat or the dragon cult, and though they say there are dragons in the Feywild, they say they are distant and not something En has any great knowledge of.
Gwen is chatty and open to talk, but only if Jalt and Bazavur reciprocate. She seems to relax a little as the days pass, and there doesn't appear to be any threat - at least, not one that you can see.
You halt on the outskirts of Daggerford; Soar dons her Mask of Many Faces disguises. Will Jalt and Bazavur remain outside the town's walls, or head in as well? Gwen is keen to join, to be around more people and maybe find some food that's more interesting than the trail rations you've been feeding her. En also seems to want to join, though they seem nervous among such a large group of big humanoid folk.
Jalt and Bazavur decide to remain outside the town, setting up a small camp. Bazavur will suggest to Soar that you at least pass by one of the taverns and see if you can overhear anything useful; you haven't had much chance to learn news of the outside world during your time in the Misty Forest. Bazavur commiserates that it will be difficult to hang around a tavern common room while you have no money to buy ale, but isn't sure how to solve this problem.
Soar, you head in, Gwen sticking close to your side as she gazes wide-eyed at the town. As you come close to the town's gate, En flies in front of your face and suddenly disappears, becoming invisible. Don't worry, I'm still here, they say. I don't want people to bother you while you're doing important things, and they might want to ask you questions about me. I hope that's okay.
Soar, are you headed straight for the tavern?
