Nate responds to Soar "Good idea - let's check out Borngray's quarters, it might help us learn more about what the hell they are up to." Nate would for sure accompany Soar back up.
Nate listens to Nub and is on board with resting the long rest duration here in the castle with his alarm set. "I am also going to have to get some rest to regain my magic to be any help against what we might have left... including that blasted half-dragon. Then we can head into the portal, say the word, and give 'em hell"
Nate would eat a ration if no food is found in borngray's quarters.
Soar and Nub, the tower that held Borngray's study also held his bedchamber.
In the study, you find books on several dragon-related subjects but nothing that is directly relevant to the cult or its current operations. You don't find anything in his desk or any papers in the drawers - it seems he had some time at least to prepare for a possible escape attempt.
Borngray’s sleeping chamber is furnished with a bed, a carpet-draped table with a wash basin and grooming supplies (comb, brush, soap, scented waters), and a stool. Rugs cover most of the floor. A raven in a large cage squawks loudly as you enter. Borngray's rooms would serve as a defensible position with a single point of entry, if you wish to sleep there. The bed also looks quite clean and comfortable.
Nate, there's no food in Borngray's chambers, though you did see the kitchen below which could probably feed you if you wanted to venture down.
Nub, you notice through the window that the central tower, the one unconnected to the outer wall, houses some sort of telescope-like device on the room at this level. You've read of telescopes, though never actually seen one. You would have to descend to the yard and climb the stairs of that particular tower to reach it though.
You also all get a fairly good view of the layout of the castle, so I'll repost the full map of the ground floor. You been into most of it, except that central tower.
Nate won't go to the kitchen to get food, he'll just eat a ration.
Nate would start to set up his bedroll in borngray's quarters if that's what we're doing. He has no desire to sleep where Borngray rests his body each night. Gross.
If you are sleeping here, let me know. You can keep watch, but you have thoroughly cleaned out the castle (not the basement perhaps) or your lizard folk allies have finished up any loose ends, so you won't be disturbed.
Oh wow, I assumed there was more! That's OOC great. Soar will happily sleep, and volunteer to keep watch, really wanting to see who might come in and out of the front gate. I forget if the gate's open or closeable, and if it's closeable, it'd be worth closing it. And I assume we don't see any lizardfolk? If we do, even outside, she'd ask them to keep an eye out for any returning cultists.
Nub is very interested in the telescope having read about them before, and suggests "before we bed down for the night, can we check out that central tower? We haven't been into it at all and I don't want any surprises, but also there is a device in the window that could be useful for us and could possibly be used to spy on us while we rest if we don't grab it first."
[OOC: Nub hasn't taken any damage and still has a level 3 spell, so can also do an early watch.]
Soar's pretty beat up and zonked for the night, but is game to go. She takes a look from Borngray's tower at the central tower, curious about the telescope. What does the tower look like? Any light in there? Anything notable about it?
Soar, you don't see anything beyond what Nub has already noticed, and you would have to go there to know more.
You are able to close the front gate. Two lizardfolk are hanging around, and step outside when you close the gate. They let you know that the bullywugs are dead or gone and the tribe is resting and discussing the future.
You all remain or return to Borngray's study and settle in for the night. Despite the ever-present and ominous sounds of the swamp around you, more comforting or less comforting depending on how you see these things, the night passes without incident.
You awake in the morning to a quiet, empty castle. You have completed a long rest.
Soar would want to take another look around to see if there was any treasure left to add to their giant crates they’ve been lugging around. She’s grab an interesting looking book about dragons in Borngray’s chambers, and fill up her rations on the food in the larder. Then she’d ask if Nub wanted company in looking at the central tower/telescope, before turning back to the portal. “They either know we know the password, or they don’t. If they don’t know, they won’t be expecting us at all. If they do, they might think we’d follow. They might not. I don’t see another option but to try going, though. I think it will work out okay. We’ve learned a bit but still need to learn more. I wish there was a way to get word back to the Gauntlet or the Harpers. They seem so far off now. We really are on our own.”
You find the book and the rations, but no treasure other than what you previously found. There was a site where you left some coins and treasure behind, and there's nothing left now - you suspect the lizardfolk have taken much.
Let me know if you are all heading together into the central tower.
Nub indicates "Because we don't know where our foes teleported to, I suggest we approach the tower with caution. They may have teleported far away, or even to another plane of existence, or they may have simply teleported into that tower."
"Maybe, who knows! Seems like a lot of trouble to get into a tower in the same castle though. But anything's possible!" Soar feels much better after her rest. She's fine with checking out the tower with Nub, though she does again suggest they look at the rest of the area near Borngray's office and that locked door.
Nate feels much better after the rest. He listens to Soar lay out the options and ponders them. "Well... we have some time either way regardless of what they know, since we were able to rest here overnight without issue. I think we should go back upstairs and see what might be behind that locked door that Jalt and I found back up there."
Nate pauses and looks at the ground. "Also... I must apologize for my actions earlier. I don't know what happened... all I felt was anger when I got close to them... the cultists. I was able to meditate last night, and I realize now looking back that I put us in some very dangerous situations and almost killed myself, and Soar. I will try to keep my emotion in check next time. Thank you all for rescuing me in battle."
"I can lead us to the locked door... I remember where it is"
Nate would lead the way to the door upstairs if need be, or follow everyone else to the central tower if we are doing that first.

(And there's one door we haven't been to on Borngray's level, right? Nate and Jalt found it locked?)
That's correct.

Jalt is prepared to take first watch for the rest as he’s not taken much damage during the day’s festivities.

You follow Nate and now stand in front of a locked door on the top floor of the castle, near to Borngray's chambers.
We didn’t locate any keys did we? If not Soar will try to kick it in or break it down.
