Oh if that’s the case, Soar will cast aid as well, before regaining her slots, perhaps on herself? And maybe on Blagothkus and a giant if she can manage it? I had no idea that was an option....
Jalt, the immediate distaste you feel for this clearly powerful artifact of the followers of Tiamat only increases over time. You turn it over in your hands, but the thought of placing it on your face - though you know it would adjust to fit the size and shape of your head as easily as it did Rezmir's - is uncomfortable and unpleasant in the extreme. Nevertheless, after an hour of study and contemplation, you are able to understand the properties of the Black Dragon Mask.
You suspect that removing this item from the cult's control will be seen as a significant insult, and it's possible that attempts will be made by cultists to retrieve it.
As Jalt learns about the mask, his disgust soon becomes replaced by acceptance. It is indeed the teachings of his family that all dragons are not evil. That if he can harness the power of this mask, he could show what good all dragons bring to this plane of existence. With these line of thinking, Jalt cautiously places the mask on his head and attunes it to him.

Hoard of the Dragon Queen - Jalt Rhogar - Dragonborn Cleric (9)
As expected, the mask adjusts to fit Jalt perfectly. It's a strange sight - the imagery of blackness and death are more akin to something Soar might wear, and it's remarkable - and rather frightening and intimidating - to see Jalt wearing this mask.
You wake in the morning, having completed a long rest. Though there was movement and changing of the ogre guard during the night, you heard nothing that troubled you or seemed like fighting.
You eat a quick breakfast and pack your things. The ogres offer to escort you to meet with Blagothkus, who is apparently already at the mouth of the cave, ready to fight.
The night before, Soar tells the others, "Fellas, this sword is really nice! It wants to help us slay the dragon. Anyone else want to swing it or do you mind if I give it a try?"
She begins inserting and affixing various dried flower buds and petals and flexible vines she's got in her pack, and any flowers she can find growing on the outside of the room on the balcony (perhaps snowdrops) onto the sword, similar to how she keeps flowers in the mouths of the skulls on her armor. "There, now you're not so grumpy, are you?"
I had a daughter like you. I watched her age and fail; I stood at her bedside as she died, surrounded by flowers. So continue. So long as there is battle, young half-elf, I am content. The voice has a paternal edge; the sword definitely seems more amused than angered.
Maybe Nate was sleeping when Jalt and Soar inspected and attuned to the mask and weapon. If he wasn't he'd just be watching them in awe. He would want no part of those items... he is repelled and disgusted by them. "Have at it, Soar."
Once we get escorted by the ogres to Blagothkus, Nate would ask all of the questions he had and explain the potential strategies he had mentioned awhile back that maybe were overlooked or if he is able to ask B once we get to him.
Do we know what other types of creatures might be down here other than the dragon?
Do we know where the dragon usually is down here? What is that gold section?
I think the best way will be once we get down there to find the dragon as quick as we can and try and surprise it. Staying away from that trap. Nate can go first with his pass without trace and try and sneak ahead to scope out the place and hopefully find the dragon, although he'll be scared as heck doing so. I think Nate can really focus on healing everyone and staying out of the line of fire (ice, haha) with this upcoming battle. He does have some cold resistance based magic as well, which will require him to concentrate.
Looking at the map, could we just go north up to that gold part?
Or, south and then east?
What are you all thinking?
And yeah for sure we can try and offer the Dragon food on a platter.
The ogres lead you to the stairwell, and down to the lower courtyard. Blagothkus and the two stone giants stand, deep in conversation, at the mouth of a large tunnel, large enough for them and you to fit, though it will be a squeeze for the giants.
A fine day for dragonslaying, Blagothkus says, and then he laughs loudly at something. He speaks something in giant to the others, who also laugh. Then he looks again at you all. Have you thoughts on how to slay this beast?
(OOC: If you want to ask questions directly to Blagothkus, and make a Persuasion check as you do so.)
Nate looks awkwardly at the giants, and then says to Blagothkus:
"My hugeness, do we know what other types of creatures might be down here other than the dragon?"
"Do we know where the dragon usually is down here?"
Nate looks at his comrades, and then up at Blagothkus, constantly wondering in the back of his mind if he's being taken seriously or not.
"I think the best way will be once we get down there to find the dragon as quick as we can and try and surprise it. Staying away from that trap you mentioned. Where is it again? I can go first and try and sneak ahead to scope out the place if you all think we have time. Either way, I can heal you all when the time comes. I'll also be fine from the cold. I think."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Soar, still looking at Jalt from time to time, worried about him, finally says to the giant, "also, if you could tell us how you prefer to fight, then we can coordinate better. Are you someone who wants to hit things up close like I do, or throw heavy things? Dragons can fly, though maybe not easily in a cavern like this. If someone has a way to make sure I can get up close, let me know. Otherwise, if we can try that food on a platter idea, with you big ones walking behind us as we carry a large plate or door of food. Nub will have his new spell going, which looks like he's on fire, but really protects him from the cold, so the dragon might just think the platter is floating and being heated from below. Then, whenever we get close, we toss aside the platter and the food, I jump out and start smiting, maybe Jalt too, the casters scatter so they're safe out of the way, and the giants either close to melee or stay back and throw boulders."
Soar de-attunes to her gloves of missile snaring (if anyone wants one, if, say, the dragon's an archer, feel free to borrow!), attunes to the ring of warmth, and attunes to the greatsword, and keeps her ring of free action attuned.
Jalt, you don't really get much sense of the giant's thoughts. He seems to have made a good joke though?
Nate, in response to your questions, the massive giant frowns. The dragon will be on its hoard. Where else would a dragon be? He seems to have no interest in talking to Nate, and turns back to speak with the other giants.
Soar, the giant holds up his massive morningstar with one hand, and with the other casts as spell: a spectral hand appears above you, and pats you on the head. I have a few options, though my friends here are more standard fighters. However, I warn you; as soon as the beast sees me, or any giant, it will know this is a likely assault, unless you are extremely good at showmanship. If you are willing for us to wait out of sight and join the fray a little later, that may be a good option. He seems willing to let you take the lead on the approach you will take.

Jalt will spend an hour of the long rest studying Rezmir's black mask.

Soar will do the same with the sword.
Nub immediately begins transcribing the fire shield, consuming some portion (200gp worth) of the papers and inks he just got from the chambers.
Nub is able to transcribe the spell successfully.

(Nate likes the idea of trying to offer the dragon some food as Soar suggested if we can get enough and if B is onside with that!)
Jalt will follow the orges... never once making eye contact with the others or the ogres.

Jalt would like to make an insight check on Blagothkus to see if he really is about taking on this dragon 7
