Nub tries to rouse quickly and, hearing Soar's words, walks out of the dome into the darkness and moves to the tree to the SW of Soar. He casts flaming sphere 10 feet ahead of her, and, with the area better illuminated, assumedly seeing the mound there, uses his bonus action to ram it into the mound.
Nub's spell forms in the air and reveals an ugly mass of leaves and broken branches that is heaving and quivering on the ground, and moving towards you. He slams the sphere into it:
12
And the creature takes a little damage.
The other creature moves towards Soar and Nub, ending its turn right next to them.
Soar is up. Both creatures are brightly lit now from the spell.

Soar pushes against the tree and circles around Mound 2, flanking it with poor Nub, who's not thrilled to be in melee. She hefts the greatsword, who seems happy.
She uses her bonus action to invoke hexblade's curse on it.
Attack: 19 Damage: 24 (I folded in the extra necrotic damage on these rolls) Extra Attack: 21 Damage: 27

Soar, your sword is less happy than you might have hoped. Filth. This... trash is beneath me. But there's no resistance to using your new weapon. The first attack just misses, but the second connects, slicing a chunk of flesh that flies a few feet, lands on the forest floor, and seems to decay almost instantly.
Mound 1 shambles along towards Soar, coming next to her and taking damage from the Flaming Sphere:
DEX save: 5 It takes fire damage, but now you are closer Soar can see that the damp creature isn't taking as much damage from the flaming mass of fire as might be expected.
Mound 1 makes two attacks on Soar, slamming into her:
Attack: 24 Damage: 16 Attack: 15 Damage: 13
The first attack knocks Soar off balance. The second seems to twist behind her, pulling her, and then, in a heartbeat, Jalt, Nate and Nub see Soar disappear as she is engulfed by the creature. Soar, you are grappled, blinded, restrained and unable to breathe.
Nate and Jalt are up.
(FYI: Escaping from being engulfed is the same as escaping a grapple.)
(Frustrating rolls because even with shield as a potential reaction, both attacks still hit because she doesn't have her actual shield. And the ring of free action, does that do anything with her being restrained? Not sure if this is a magical attack. From the description:
While you wear this ring, difficult terrain doesn't cost you extra movement. In addition, magic can neither reduce your speed nor cause you to be paralyzed or restrained.
Guessing not. Another question -- can Soar see the creature? Soar's blinded, but she's blinded by the creature. For command, it has to be a creature she can see. She can't see anything because she's surrounded by a creature she could target, if she can see it. Ruling?
Jalt, your bolt of magical energy hits the creature. Next attack on it has advantage.
Nate is up.
(OOC: No, it's not a magical effect, so the ring doesn't help Soar. With regard to command, I would say that the description for the engulf effect specifically states that the engulfed creature is blinded, so I think that applies fully and the spell would not work. You can think of it as part of the creature wrapped around Soar's head so that she cannot open her eyes.)

At first, Nate was more annoyed than anything seeing these moving plants interrupting sleep. He didn't think they'd be this much trouble but when he sees Soar get 'eaten' his concern grows. He waves his hands around and calls forth 2 giant spiders.
1 will appear NE of mound 1, in melee range, and the other will appear directly below mound 2. He should be able to see those locations somewhat.

(Nub has mostly fire-based attacks, so this is fun!)
The tortle is alarmed that his companion's becoming plant food. He pulls the flaming sphere one square to the SW to hit mound 2 for 5 fire damage, assumedly divided by 2. It stays there, away from the spiders, and adjacent to both mounds.
He points at the mound holding Soar and casts toll the dead for 6 on a failed WIS 14 save. (Saving the attack roll advantage for another player.)
Then he moves back closer to Nate and Jalt, 4 squares west and 1 square north.

Mound 2's DEX save: 13
The mound is barely singed.
Mound 1 WIS save: 6
The mound quivers but is still pretty intact.
Mound 2 attacks the spider that has appeared next to it:
Attack: 21 Damage: 15 Attack: 13 Damage: 12
The spider is still alive... but only barely. The mound seems to attempt to swallow the spider down, but it's too large and the mound withdraws a little.
Soar is stunned. More accurately, she's grappled, restrained, and blinded, but she's just a bit shocked she just got eaten by a plant monster. She thinks back to Hazirawn: "Oh come on now. You've had your meat course. Roast dragon. Try some salad!"
She strains and attempts to use the sword and her own strength to break the grapple with her first attack...
Soar, covered in grassy mulch, like she just rolled in a compost pile, swirls around, Hazirawn spraying green ichor as it seeks to become a vegetarian for the moment. She almost targets the one who ate her, but she decides to leave the sparkles to help one of her friends target more accurately. She aims for mound 2, who she doesn't even see has a giant spider behind it (assuming this grants flanking adv but if not, ignore the second roll).
Extra Attack: 16 Damage: 26
"You people... are NOT... polite!"
She almost misty steps away, but realizes the mounds will be on her again regardless, so she holds her ground.
If that's a hit, she drops a first level smite in: 11 radiant damage
(I would still like four more Perception rolls for Nub and Soar, that we can use on future nights.)
Soar perceptions: 12 4 18 15
Nub perceptions: 23 11 19 25

They are ordered to kill these plant blobs.
that should distract them
"Cut her out of there Jalt!"
Sorry Nate would've moved down one square before he did this.
The spiders pop into reality and seem eager to go, but they will go on their initiative next round.

Round Two:
Nub
Mound 2
Soar
Spider 1 and 2
Mound 1
Nate and Jalt
Nub is up.
(Nub has mostly fire-based attacks, so this is fun!)

Mound 2's DEX save from the flaming sphere: 16
9 fire damage.
The mound seems to take very little damage from the flames, as they attempt to take hold on its damp surface and fail.

Soar is up.
Athletics: 25
Contested check: 8
Soar breaks free, and can use her Extra attack to make an attack, if you wish.
Hexblade's Curse is on Mound 2.
If that's a hit, she drops a first level smite in: 11 radiant damage
That's a hit, so Mound 2 takes 37 points of slashing and radiant damage and is looking weakened.
Spider 1 chitters with eagerness as it attacks Mound 1:
Attack: 16 Damage: 4
Mound's CON save: 14
It takes half poison damage: 12
Spider 2 attacks Mound 2:
Attack: 25 Damage: 12
Mound's CON save: 15
It takes full poison damage: 10
Mound 1 loved the taste of half-elf, and wants to revisit the experience:

Attack: 25 Damage: 14
Attack: 26 Damage: 18
You all see the now unconscious form of Soar dragged back into Mound 1.
Nate and Jalt are up.
