Darion gives Tahvo an encouraging pat, kneeling down to his level "Remember to draw on Tymorra, Tahvo. The world can be a chaotic and dangerous place but if you look hard enough, feel hard enough, you can see a pattern in it. With Tymorra's help, you can even change that pattern a little, make your own luck. And soon, with luck, you will be back at home with your family."
He gets up, and will join the rest of the group in following Erro
Tahvo nods and says a quick prayer as you all gather your things and prepare to cross the plains. The first 30 minutes of the crossing goes by quietly as you make your way from tree to boulder and pause momentarily while Erro scouts ahead to the next shelter. As you set out from a large boulder you hear a hitch pitched hoot from a patch of tall grass about 120 feet ahead. Rawk continues forward flapping her wings a bit too rapidly and a moment later you see the head and neck of a single large bipedal creature crane over the grass and look directly at Rawk. The creature lets out a loud honk that is followed by a series of honks and snorts of varying pitches from within the grass as more heads lift out and peer towards the apparent danger. You see the herd of creatures immediately turn and begin to run away from the group. The ground shakes from the impact of the many footfalls. The stampeding horde draws the attention of all animals nearby who pickup the sound of the honks and thunderous retreat.
Everyone roll Initiative! (We are not in combat yet but just in case.)
Are you moving forward, standing still or retreating back to the boulder?
(So are you saying you would've announced your portent for Rawk specifically before she rolled or are you saying you choose Rawk's roll because it's low? Portent must be declared before the roll even takes place unlike Lucky, which can be used after the roll but before the outcome. I will be as fair as I can and say roll a d20. If it is between 16-20 then you can replace the roll. If not, then the roll won't be replaced. Also go ahead and roll your two portent rolls for the day unless you already rolled them on here, I couldn't find them.)
((I must apologize for rolling Survival earlier. I keep forgetting that I made the only Ranger who doesn’t have survival, lol. Though I suppose it narratively makes sense in this setting.))
“Surely every beast in this plain is looking this way now! Perhaps if we lay low their attention will be drawn away by the stampede. If we move forward now would we be joined by predators giving them chase?”
If it is easily scalable, Erro may try to quickly climb the boulder to try and see what he can see.
Perception: 16
If he cannot he’ll at least look out from the ground. He won’t take any definitive action until the group comments (don’t want to be the one driving the plain train the whole time!)

Darion mutters a curse under his breath, looking around slightly wildly. Unfamiliar with the great outdoors, he will hear Erro's confident plan with relief (though will try not to show how perturbed he is!). He will mutter a quick "Good plan, Erro" and move slightly closer to him.
He will issue a quick command to Robyn telling her to circle above and keep her eye's peeled for trouble. Again, if she spots trouble, Darion will see through her eyes and report back to the group.
Ellis is shocked at the honking sounds and hearing of the stampede, worried. But then he hears Erro's plan, agreeing with him as he nodded. So he would stay close with the others, careful to keep Tahvo close as hopefully they will not be spotted.
Rawk would immediately freeze in place when she hears Erro speak. "I agree." she'd squeak quietly and slowly lower Tahvo down to the ground and tell him to lie down and crawl towards the boulder and the group. She'd stand like a statue and remain motionless looking around the plains for any threats.
(Not sure If I'm reading this wrong but I imagine Erro or I are out front a few feet from the boulder and the rest of the group is close to the boulder if not right by it?)
(@Foofaspoon- no worries. I had to look it up first because I wasn't very familiar with it myself.)
(@JustBrad- You want to lay low by climbing on top of a boulder to look around?)
(@Lillightnin- pretty close below is a visual.)
Erro- if you still want to climb the boulder make a DC13 athletics or acrobatics check. If you succeed, make a stealth check at disadvantage.
Ellis- You see far to the northwest you see movement from a pack of rippers that stay crouched and slowly head towards the panicked herd.
Everyone- You look around the area and can see a number of animals immediately beginning to turn and run away from the commotion. Other groups of creatures gather close together and stand in a defensive posture facing the noise.
Ellis notices the rippers as he then looks to the others. "There are rippers to the northwest crouched and slowly going to the herd that's panicking." he would whisper and warn everyone.
You each slowly maneuver back behind the boulder and watch the swift pack of rippers as they traverse the plains in pursuit of prey. The stampeding creatures all rush away sprinting for 3-4 minutes before slowing and peer about to see if the danger has past. The ripper pack continues slowly behind them using their smaller camouflaged frames to remain unseen. The other animals further away each slowly begin to resume their feeding or drinking though a bit more alertly. You wait as another minute passes and nearly all the animals have resumed their previous actions. You get the sense that these herbivorous creatures aren't very intelligent.
Do you continue or do you wait longer? You are roughly 40% of the way across the plains.
"Sorry everyone... I think we should get moving though. The longer we wait here, the higher chance more creatures will come."she chirps quietly hunkering down as much as she can behind the boulder.
(Yay the return of battle maps! I was wondering if you'd have them in this campaign too Xtra.)

Erro will give a nod to Rawk. “Yes, let’s keep on moving. Now we know how easy it is to startle these larger ones. Perhaps we can use this to our advantage if we get in a scrape. Maybe Darion could use his magic to imitate the sound or form of a predator and whip them into a frenzy. Imagine the fun of driving them directly onto the Yuan-ti?”

Ellis agreed with Darion as they hid behind the boulder, relieved to see that the animals went back to what they were doing pretty much. He nodded in agreement to what Rawk said before hearing Erro, thinking about that thought.

Darion listens to Ellis and hisses "Might I suggest we move behind this rock carefully? Let us put it between us, the Rippers and their prey."
He will then move in such a way himself, gesturing for the others to follow him.
