Jay just quietly watches the group. How could all this fit in with the grand scheme of things? Sending someone as a cloud off on their own seems slightly disadvantageous should there be creatures lurking in the dark, though the darkness doesn't seem too bothersome. His gloomy eyes look over the group, then back to the cracks that Paren disappeared through. There is not much he feels he can contribute at the moment, so remaining silent and as if he wasn't there seems best.
Tanni is able to build a rather solid understanding of the layout of this strange section of the castle. The oath that they've taken seems to have winded around a central area that Vok seems to have intentionally avoided. It's most likely due to the cave in that he's mentioned but he's giving it a rather wide distance.
As your small group waits outside of the rubble, you can sense the eyes of the kobold masses on you. They seem to be growing restless with your presence here. In fact, many of the faces of younger looking children have been replaced by the angrier faces of aged men and the numbers are rising. Vok seems to be doing little to quell any sort of conflict that may be rising. It's pretty easy to see that Tyler is growing rather uncomfortable.
Tyler gives Tanni a bit of a worried glance. She's able to tell that he isn't comfortable down here and the numbers are clearly not in the groups favor should anything get started.
Vok shrugs and says, "Should be. So long as your friend doesn't go messing around where he shouldn't be."
Tyler gets a puzzled expression on his face. "And where might that be?"
Vok laughs, "I'm not going to tell you, guard master."
Jay's eyes blink once, the golden glare of the sullen eyes looking at Vok. "That one's safety isimportant." He gestures to the pile of rocks where Paren disappeared through in a vapourous form. "What they know could be vital to this mission, as well as your wellbeing and of those that live here, little one." He tells the kobold.
If you want me to roll one, Intimidation (guided from prior casting): 22
Jay and Tanni look to the rubble and it doesn't take long to see that...
the cave-in was not natural. It looks like tools were used to close off the area and cause the stones to fall on themselves. It's unclear how long it's been like this, but it could have been the work of the kobolds. Were they trying to keep people away from something or were they trying to keep something contained? The kobolds that have gathered look to be ready to fight, but they aren't focusing on the group. Their eyes stare into the cracks in the stone, watching and waiting.
A plume of gas bursts through the seams in the rocks. It would have been quite startling had you not known the spell was cast on Paren. The gas lingers in the air for a moment until either Falaine quickly drops the spell or several minutes later the spell ends on its own accord.
Paren reforms into his normal state along with his belongings. He looks out and sees the worries faces of a horde of kobolds ready to attack. They hold for a minute waiting to see if anything else happens. After a moment, their tensions ease and they return to what they'd been doing before the group arrived.
Vok looks to Paren and says, "Well, are you done here?"
"I would like to spend much more time here but I can see by the faces of your friends here that we would not be the most welcome of guests. Am I correct in guessing that you are the ones who sealed off that area?" Paren rests an easy hand on the top of the shield strapped to his arm.

Vok offers a grunt in response to Paren. "Gods are dangerous. Can never be too careful. Calls to us in our sleep. Had to block the entrance so we didn't lose any little ones."
Tyler seems irritated. "Are you saying you've trapped a god in there," he says gesturing toward the rubble.
"No, you idiot. You can't trap a god. We don't know who they are, but we're not going to just let them come out if they can even do that. You don't just keep people like that. It's not right. If you're done here..."
"There's people in there?,"Tyler asks."How'd they get in there?"
"I don't know. Why would someone build a mausoleum inside a castle like that. It's just weird."
"I don't like it any more than you do, but you choose to stay down here so it's your problem." Tyler looks to Paren and says, "Did you figure out what you needed to know? Can we get out of here already?"
"I would say it another way, who builds a castle on top of a mausoleum? There is no one alive back there but there are many bodies, all placed carefully into crypts with writing that I can't read. There is an obelisk in the centre but something feels off about the place. It's different and dark, not like the feeling I get in the grove. My guess is that it might have become more of a shrine to Mervielle than Lugh. I looked around but I don't see any way that we could get in without digging for a few weeks. I don't like it but I don't see any way to get back there and get out again without your spell Falaine. It seems that we have done all we can do here, unless someone else has an idea?"

Jay sees some sort of poetic notion in the idea of perhaps building your empire atop the fallen of your enemies. Perhaps that is why, and now the dead are restless because of being disturbed. He looks at Paren, his blank expression still unchanged. "Do you think that this obelisk is connected or active?" He asks. "Given we should investigate that, perhaps this one's minions might aid in opening the path so it can be cleared." Jay looks at the kobold with the group. Xol might not particularly want to be friends with the guard master or his companions, but a mutually beneficial act would be enticing.
"That might work. If we investigate the tomb proper, we might find a way to cleanse it of this... dark, as Paren put it, the castle gains a part of its history back and kobolds can rest easy without fear of voices and ghosts. The Duke may even pay them to tend to the crypt once it's safe. And reward everyone taking part in restoring it."
Tyler seems reluctant at Tanni's hopes at payment. "His funds are rather tied up with the expedition I'm afraid. I'm sure he could offer you something else besides coin if you were interested. In fact, as the guard master, I'm sure I could find something of value should your group be able to bring peace to the kobold citizens of Thousand Steps."
Vok seems rather unimpressed by Tyler's offer. "If you can get rid of the voices, we'll give you something better than whatever he's offering you. My people just want to be able to get a good night sleep without worrying about the end of the world."
Vok looks to Jay and says, "We can dig it out without problem but you gotta promise you can do the job. I can't have my people wandering into godly chambers without understand what's at play. It'd take us a few days. We've gotten pretty good at clearing out this area after all."
Jay stares down at the kobold spokesperson. "No." He replies simply. "I do not make deals I cannot knowingly keep. Your terms have too many open ends. We do not know the source of these 'woes' of yours, so cannot confirm we can 'do the job'."He states flatly. "If you would prefer to adjust these terms, so that if it is cleared this group, including myself, will head through to investigate and potentially resolve your issues, then we can proceed."
Hope is just a delusion that people put upon themselves in a notion to attempt to make the scenario sound better than it is. Jay can't work on those parameters, he has set goals and the goals of these kobolds, and even this party, aren't of his concern. He isn't going to be some sort of proverbial beacon for their wishes, at least he doesn't want to be.
