Tanni lets Falaine go but keeps her eye on the changeling, in case the strange pull of the obelisk is too strong for Falaine. "If any of us try to touch that thing, you're welcome to chain us." She then takes a long look at the obelisk. "I think this kind of stone might have been mixed with the ore that was used by master Hammerstone to make the strange armour and weapons we've seen, like the guard's equipment in Holden Heights and even these." She draws the Hammerstone longsword she took from the dead guard and holds it in front of her. "The stone might act as a conduit that allows the god to easily take over someone. That would explain the strange guard we saw in the alley in Holden Heights and how the guards here were manipulated."
"That would make sense. If this stone can channel the power of the gods then it make sense they could use it to exert their will over someone. It seems that Mervielle especially has a habit for using others bodies to do his work." Paren walks slowly around the obelisk, trying to get a sense of how everything works here.
The group looks over the strange obelisk and find little different about it beyond the slightly shifting color in the stone. Tanni can still see the aura of a magical ward on the stone that looks to be activated when the stone is touched. She's unclear what triggers when that happens, but it seems the entire room is linked to the actuation.
Paren begins to looks closer at the obelisk with the help of his companions. He notices that the pattern of celestial words wraps around the obelisk like a ribbon spiraling to the very top. Unlike the grove where his obelisk had been, the ceiling here is covered in stones with many stories of Thousand Steps resting above. His grove had been a place of gathering where the beasts of the forest could come and drink water without the threats often found in similar situations. This obelisk seems to have a similar welcoming effect that calls creatures to it, but there is no holy stream that flows through here. There are only the vaults of the dead and they seem to have been sealed for quite some time now.
Those able to read celestial would see the names engraved on the stones but have little understanding of who these people are. What is clear though is that each tomb has the symbol of a tree and a spear engraved large and clear below each name. Paren would notice this as well recalling a similar symbol on his shield. Could these be the tombs of fellow Wardens? Why would a place that seems so dedicated to Merveille have such a strong presence of Lugh?
The only sound in the room is the soft hum that seems to come from the stone. It's a steady tone so faint that most wouldn't even notice it. There's a strong magical presence in this chamber and the group can feel the energy surrounding them like an unseen fog. It's hard to tell exactly what the magic is without the spell Detect Magic.
The lack of light in the room only seems to make the situation that much less comfortable. The slight shimmer in the obelisk seems to cast odd shadows on the stone vaults along the walls. Along one of the walls, the group slowly starts to notice that one vault is not like the others. In fact, it isn't a sealed vault but instead a square section that has the message below inscribed into the stone in Celestial.
"Eternal wardens? Rising from the dead to restore balance. Or is it something more ominous? Jay, are you able to discern the magic in the air here?" Falaine seems intrigued by the poem.
Jay attempts to discern the nature of this new magic. Whilst he cannot perceive it well, he is learned in mystic ways. He reads through the words, seeing if they connect up with what he knows and has learned about these obelisks in the little time he has had actual encounters with them.
"Dead servants of a god promising to return to shepherd death? Sounds ominous to me. Maybe it's a ceremonial thing. Bury the dead wardens around Mervielle's obelisk to guard it eternally or something like that. If Mervielle steps out of line, their spirits return to set things right. A final watch kind of thing."
Paren looks around the room, more confused than ever about what's happening. "Will someone tell me what you can all read here that I can't? You're all talking about undead and things and all I see are squiggles."
Thinking of the undead aspect Paren reaches out with his Divine Sense.

Paren finds his senses rather muted within this chamber most likely as a result of the surrounding magic and stone. It's possible that there's enough of a barrier to cause things to be outside of his reach.
Jay is able to get the sense that...
There is an overwhelming amount of protective magic in the air. He can tell that it is both preserving in nature as well as expelling. The magic doesn't seem to be affecting the party. He's unclear what exactly it is, but the magic seems to be focused on the obelisk itself as a sort of beacon to this power. It seemed to be attempting to block something out of this room on a constant basis like waves of repulsion though this isn't felt and unnoticed by everyone.
Jay gets the idea that the protection magic is most likely affecting the vaults to make sure that their contents go undisturbed. He's not sure what magic is at play, but he gets the impression that any sort of wounds that he could be suffering from would halt their worsening while in this chamber.
Jay looks over to Falaine meditating. It isn't really something he does, so isn't particularly familiar with the concept. "To answer your question I have several theories." He mentions in a flat tone. He takes one step closer, but doesn't intend to get any closer, stashing the manacles onto the rope belt that holds his traveller's robe in place. "To describe it best as to what I believe is at work, I would advise that this obelisk is focusing potent abjuring magic. The area is somewhat warded by this, constantly replenishing the abjuration. It is almost like it is attempting to keep something out more than hold something in." He looks over the markings again, the celestial seemingly commonplace in his mind. "Given the wordings on this, there could be various meanings." Jay repeats the words in the common tongue for those not able to read celestial.
"We return here A silent guard Defenders of Life Shepherds of Death Should balance fail We shall rise To restore order And bring justice"
Jay looks to the group. "Do any of you describe yourself in any of these? If the theory of a failing balance in the heavens is at work as you described earlier during the trial, then it may be that these silent guards are going to attempt to return here, perhaps unable to by the abjuring effects. Not that it matters. Theoretically if this is the source of the problems, it could be disarmed. We can then return to the main task at hand and those kobolds will no longer be a bother to our work." Jay's voice is fairly cold as he speaks, seemingly uncaring for any of this as he talks. He may just be trying to find a compromise to satisfy the group so that they can return to things he has more of an interest in.
"I and those like me are the Defenders of Life." Paren pauses and thinks for a moment. "Are you saying we disable the magic and let these bodies rise again?"

”If we would think that letting a bunch dead people rise from their graves would be a good idea, how we would disable the magic? What we´ve seen, smashing the monument isn`t the way to go.”
"Does your companion require restraining?" Jay enquires, retrieving some manacles form the chest.
Falaine laughs a hearty laugh. "I'd like to see you try."

Falaine looks up briefly from her meditation and says.
"I can attempt to dispel it."
