This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Quite a sizable investment just to make guards look better", Tanni says, pointing at the Master Hammerstone's sign. "That sign there means it's a work of highest quality. At least you are well protected if something does happen."
OOC:
Sorry, I have no idea why the dice roll doesn't show. I'll try to figure it out tonight.
just for a test: Perception check: 17
edit: Ok, now rolls seem to work. It's only that one post I can't get it to work, for some reason...
The gnome shrugs and says, "Just makes the job hotter and less comfortable. Glad to hear it's good stuff though. We may go out back and test it out later,"she says with a laugh. She looks to the others at the back table and says, "Sounds like the little Lord bought us some proper gear this time around."
Knok enters the familiar confines of the guard barracks, looking for Quentin as he hops up and down trying to see between the legs of everyone standing inside the room.

Over the course of the day, you all have noticed that Taren has become rather quiet. He seems rather absent and following along like he's lost. He hasn't contributed to the normal discuss like he had the day prior and almost seems a bit standoffish. It's possible that the events that unfolded yesterday were too much for him and he's become quite distracted.
A wide smile spreads on her face as Tanni notices Paren and others. "Took you long enough!" She says loudly, turning her back to the armoured gnome as she begins to unload their findings. "We already investigated the tower. Remember the flash of light we mentioned yesterday that saved Jonathan? Seems like something large and blunt hit the bell with enough force to shatter it. Quentin found something strange at the base of the tower, like something big had crushed the stone with its bare hands. Also something about strange plants or something. Not much to go on, but at least we know that the tower incident wasn't an accident."
As Tanni explains their findings, she notices Taren and his quiet demeanor and with a worried look steps closer, placing her hand on his arm. "You okay, Taren? You seem a bit... absent."
Taren raises his eyes from the floor to meet Tanni's. "It's nothing; I'm sure. Things just feel different here today. It's like the auras that maintain the balance are out sync with each other. It feels like a snake coiled and ready to launch."He shakes he head a moment as he looks back to the floor. "There is evil in Holden Heights, but I don't know where it is hiding."
It is then that Finan also walks in, the frown on his forehead making room for a happy grin as he recognizes the friendly faces inside."Well there you are, didn't take long to find you lot at all!"he exclaims, then quickly seeks out Jonathan, giving Tanni a wink as he walks past her.
"Hello there, friend." he says, draping an arm around the big man and shaking him a bit with a firm grip on the man's shoulder. "You have something of mine, looks a little like this?" he says, a platinum coin appearing in his hand with a quick flourish of his fingers. A familiar square hole is stamped out of the center.
"You," he begins, jabbing the coin at Jonathan's chest, then expanding the motion to encapsulate the entire group, "will not believe where I got this. Have we got a bloody tale for you!"
"O-oh! Paren! W-welcome back! Y-you have to t-tell us the a-adventure you've just been on! Oh, h-how exciting!" Despite her usual demeanor of shyness and hesitance, Eira seems to brighten up at the mention of an adventure.
Paren turns and gives a slightly warmer than normal smile to Eira. "Aye, a drink sounds good after that. I'm still trying to process things myself. And a birds eye view sounds good Falaine but I don't see how that's possible now that the bell tower has been flattened. If only this town had some good trees."

OOC: Ah, I forgot pokepaladdy/Jonathan is on holiday until the 7th.
Taking the coin back from Jonathan, Finan feels relief surge through his body, a feeling of the world finally settling back in place. Immediately he starts fiddling with the red string to try and untie it so he can join the platinum coin to it as well.
Eira's enthusiasm conjures a big smile on his face, but he raises an eyebrow in confusion when Paren follows her up."She means talking about everything that happened, boy. Get our stories together so we can start making connections."he says, then thinks to himself, "I'm beginning to understand why you didn't see, earlier. Curious."
He casts a glance around the group, asking,"Did any of you talk to the guard or worker out in the alley? They are working with some unmarked crates, and something about it is bothering me. Doesn't feel right. The man did not even reply when I talked to him." He then turns to Knok and Paren,"You don't think those are Gunthar's supplies?"
"Hello, everyone. Good to see you're all in one piece."Quentin sees Knok bounding up and down between everyone and moves towards him and gets out the food he saved from breakfast. "Good morning, Knok. Not sure how good everything will be cold or a little stale but I didn't see you at breakfast so I saved you a few things."
Quentin turns to face Finan when he mentions the guard and worker outside. His brow furrows a bit with worry. "No, we didn't see them when we came in. If they're behaving strangely that is cause for concern, especially if they could Gunthar's goods. From what they told us yesterday the items from his wagon never got brought into the city. I think this warrants looking into before we sit down for drinks."
Greedily taking the offered food from Quentin, Knok bundles it up and carelessly shoves it into his pack. "Thanks Quentin. I ate after we got out of the meeting with," Knok glances around the room surreptitiously, deciding to withhold some degree of information until he can speak to Quentin and the others outside of the public earshot, "with...a very...strange...Not Us Tall One Elf."
Satisfied he was secretive enough, Knok nods, and continues, "But Knok will keep this food for later. You can never have too much spare food. And yes, Knok totally agrees that those guards and crates outside are weird."

Paren steps back outside the door and gestures to the alleyway where the guard had been seen earlier. "I agree that the guard was acting very strange. And he doesn't seem to be one of the usual town guards. Seems odd to hire someone specifically to guard some crates in an alley. Unless those crates are very important to someone." He turns to Finan. "I share your suspicion that these might be Gunthar's crates. They would be the only thing valuable or dangerous enough to guard specifically. At least from what I've seen at the festival so far."
(OOC: 100% just leaning into the fact that Paren is oblivious now as Mat pointed out. Seems that the roles have led me this way so a character trait it is!)

You've seen similar guards stationed around the lift where most of the merchant supplies were being unloaded. Most of the crates in those areas were labeled in some fashion as to who the crates belonged to. If you venture outside and to the alley they're describing, you'll note that these crates all look rather new and lack any identifying marks on them. The guard standing outside of them is in similar attire to those you've seen before.
Tanni brightens up when a round of drinks is suggested. "I think we all could use a drink." She pats one more time at Taren's arm and starts for the door, following Paren outside. She peeks to the alley, eyeing the guard for a moment and turns to others. "Want me to talk with the guard? I'm sure a couple of gold pieces could buy us a peek at the crates. And if that fails, I can always let my good friend Mr. Burgwald handle the talking."Tanni puts her palm on her warhammer and pats it meaningfully.
