As Tanni looks toward the guard, she notices the familiar site of Hammerstone armor. The new armor you saw in the barracks was really nice while this armor seems leagues better. You notice the intricate layers of protection combine to be a stalwart protector. The armor itself is impressive but the stature of the person wearing it is quite imposing. It's hard to tell defining features behind the plate, but they seem to be larger and stockier than even the burlier human blacksmiths you've seen here in town. You don't notice a weapon on this guard.
Paren stands in the street is shock as Falaine flys away. "Well, I think I've seen just about everything today." Turning back to Tanni. "If you distract the guard I could try to get around to the other side and take a closer look at the crates."

Paren sizes up the guard from a safe distance. They are unwavering in their duty. The workers that comes and pick up the crates pay the guard little mind as they continue about their business.
Tanni jumps a bit as Falaine takes flight and curses under her breath. "Abyss take me, 'strange folk' doesn't begin to describe this group" She turns to Paren and consideres his suggestion. "Sounds good. I flaunt my famous Thornhill-charm at big-and-burly over there and you sneak a peek at the crates." She then turns to the rest of the group and asks: "Anyone else want to join? The bigger the distraction, the better."
Teren nods at Tanni's suggestion. "What's the worst that can happen?," he says in a dry tone. He leaves the barracks with the others and begins walking in the direction of the guard.
Those approaching the guard may roll can arcana check.
Falaine drops back in with the group and reverts to get elven form. "Everyone, there is smoke on the horizon and the Grove is withering, the trees appear as in Autumn." She is trying to hold composure, but there is clear worry on her face.
"Sure, I'll come along." Finan says after having become from the shock of seeing Falaine turn into a hawk. He'd have to apologize to Paren later, when they had some time. He had no idea she was literally going for a bird's eye view.
As they approach, he leans down a little to softly speak to Tanni, "If things go south, don't start swinging your hammer rightaway. We don't want to be seen attacking a guard. I've got a different back-up plan that's less... dangerous... to our future selves." He then looks around if he can find a spot where he would be unnoticed by any onlookers for a few seconds. Turning his appearance into one of a similar guard would greatly simplify things, but then he needs to find a place where he can do so without being seen.
Is there a place where I can cast Disguise Self without being seen before we approach? (If needed, Perception: 16)
Do the workers wear something that lets them stand out as workers? A different plan could be disguising myself as a worker and just walking past the guard to get to the crates.

Tanni glances at Finan and responds "I'll... do my best"and is ready to walk to the guard as Falaine returns. Not being used to people turning to birds and back, she jumps a bit again before composing herself and asking: "Smoke? Do you mean in the city?" Tanni asks and tries to spot this column of smoke Falaine mentioned. "And why a forest drying up is important?"

Paren looks up at the mention of the grove and a look of despair crosses his face. "It is important to me." He then walks away from the group approaching the guard looking to find a way he can slip past the guard easily.

As Tanni scans for signs of smoke, she's unable to see any here in the busy street. The buildings are most likely blocking the view of what Falaine mentioned.
As Paren approaches the guard, he notices that the guard does not react. The guard doesn't turn his head or adjust his stance. With the helmet and visor covering the guard's head, Paren can't even get a good look at the guard's face. What he does see though is...
Atop the pile of crates is a small raven pecking at the wood. It seems perfectly normal, except that it keeps looking at Paren as it walks on the box. Each step Paren takes, the raven becomes more interested.
The campaign page has been updated with notable events and NPCs that you have come into contact with thus far. I know there are a lot of things to keep track of so hope this helps a little. I may have missed some things. If you'd like to add notable events or NPCs just let me know! Hope it helps.
Finan suddenly holds out a hand in front of Tanni's chest, stopping her in her tracks. "Hold on, I've got an even better idea. Watch. Or figure out what is going on with this Grove." A slightly panicked feeling starts growing in his chest now, as if he was losing control of the situation with so many different things going on in town. With two known appearances of Gods in this town, he was worried this town might be turned into a battleground of multiple Gods, with them all caught in the middle of it.
Shaking off his worries, he decides to focus on the task at hand. Spotting a suitable location, he darts between two buildings. Luck would have it a small wall protrudes outwards a few feet, giving him enough space to stay out of sight for a few moments.
Suddenly, where Finan had disappeared to, another guard appears, wearing exactly the same armor as the one protecting the crates. Without a word, the new guard turns into the street and starts walking down the road. When the two guards meet, the new one speaks up in a gruff voice. "The Hell you think you're doing? Who said anything about moving these crates?"
Falaine is going to take wing once more, saying. "I'm going to find out what's happening outside of town. If I can't find you I'll be back at the inn." (realized I had looked at circle of the Moon wild shape I apologise, I can either switch subclass or handwave this. But regardless, Falaine turns into a riding horse and runs off toward the smoke at full speed.)
"Black gods" Tanni mutters as she watches her companions scatter. She has no hope to keep up with a galloping horse, so she stays behind with Knok. She peeks around a corner to the alley, in case Finan and Paren need help with the guard and workers. When she sees what Finan does, she winces and closes her fist around the head of her warhammer, praying that he knows what he's doing.
