"They should come back up from the water, right?"Knok scans the stream trying to spot where the bodies may have gone. At the far end of the cavern, there is a small area in the rock where the stream as carved a tunnel through. It's unclear where the small water filled tunnel leads but it's surely further down into the cliffs.
Paren walks over and places a hand on Knok's shoulder. "I... I don't think anyone is coming back out of that river Knok... They're with their gods now."

Tanni draws a deep breath and a visible effort to calm down. She peers into the darkness and says to Knok, "I saw someone running deeper into the caves. If we hurry, we might catch them!" Only then she takes a proper look to her companions and continues "If you're not too injured, of course. But the coward may alert more of his friends, whoever these folk were."Tanni gestures towards the corpses with her warhammer.
Paren walks back over to the others. "I think we should hunt them down before they reach the others. Though we might want to leave this one alive for questions." He flips his rapier over and offers the hilt back to Finan. "Just in case."

There are a few lanterns sitting on boxes that are offering light in the area. The tunnel is pitch black and quiet.
Deciding to pursue whatever it was Tanni saw, the group begins to run down the cave tunnel. The ground here is noticeably slicker as a small amount of water seems to have made it into the tunnel from the stream. You can hear the splashing as your feet hit the wet stone. The tunnel continues in a similar fashion as the one you descended earlier and continues that way for nearly a half an hour. Even running at a full pace, there is little sign of where whatever Tanni saw may have ran off to. There is hunger in your stomach and you realize you've spent nearly half the day underground.
Do you continue to descend the tunnel or do you return to Holden Heights?
"Initially, to have a word with Aiden." Finan says between hard breaths. It has been a while since he's had a workout like that, but he is keeping up. "Tanni, are you certain you saw something? We've been running for almost an hour! Maybe we should stop and look for any sign that someone passed this way."
He starts looking around the ground to see any footprints that are not theirs, and as he passes Paren he, without a word, takes the spear from his pack and holds it out to the man.
Finan scans the area with keen eyes and sees that there are no footprints forward in the damp cave. He's fairly certain that nothing has gone this way and they didn't pass any sort of exits along the way. He listens and hears only the soft trickle of water on the stone. Silence surrounds them as they're surrounded by solid rock in nearly every direction outside of the tunnel they're in.
Knok stops as Finan begins looking around. "Where did they go?" He smashes his scimitar against his shield in frustration. The sound rings through the tunnel but there's no discernible difference to it in either direction.
Jonathan sighs, "I missed breakfast for this..." He complains to himself. "Alright then, if we're done down here, looks like there's nothing but those folk we already beat, let's head back that way. Perhaps there's a clue on them as to what's really going on... or something."
Paren takes hold of the spear from Finan, silently nodding his thanks. "I think it is best that we head back. The further we go the more of the day we lose and it seems like this path holds no answers for us."

"Of course I'm sure!" Tanni snaps and stares deeper into the caverns, as if the mysterious figure would appear if she stared hard enough. "I do not want to leave things unfinished. Let's see if we find any tracks and if we find any, we continue. If we don't, then we go back to the Wishing Well. As Jonathan said, we can investigate the corpses on the way back, see if we find who they were and what they were doing here." She then sets her backpack to the ground and starts searching the ground for tracks, trying to ignore her empty stomach. "If you're hungry, there's some dwarven bread and dried meat in my backpack."
Tanni scours the area and comes to a similar conclusion. Either what she witnessed didn't travel down this way or they used some sort of magic in their escape. She was certain she saw something and it looked elvish compared to the humans above. Their sleek frame and features were definitely more elven but something was off.
Left with little go on, the group decides to return up the spiraling cavern to investigate the corpses that they had left behind. Still burning brightly, the lanterns cast ample light in this cavern to see the bodies. They look to be wearing traveling clothes not that different than the group has seen before, but the materials and style looked out of place. To those familiar with the coast along the Glimmering Sea, they would see that the garments worn by these swordsman was more traditional traveling clothes of that region. The fabric was designed to protect against the salt spray on ships and protect from the rays of the sun.
Laying on the ground, the group finds 2 light crossbows and 2 longswords. All of the equipment seems of common quality though they've all seen a bit of wear in their time. The weapons all show signs of weathering from salty water and air. On the fallen enemies, the group finds 10 gold pieces that they can split as they see fit. The crates seem to be empty and have just been used for seating. It's unclear what they were doing down here but it's clear they didn't come from below.
((Roll a survival or history check to confirm where they most likely came from))
Paren would be familiar enough to know that based on their clothes and the wear on their gear, they most likely hailed from the coast of the Glimmering Sea or possibly from the Northern Territories.
The crossbow feels functional. He would be able to find about 10 bolts worth of ammunition.
Paren looks back at Knok, "Is everything alright my friend?"

Knok lets out a slight sigh though the sound of water nearly drowns it out. "Was there another?," he turns asking his question to Tanni.

"They will probably try and seek other allies." Jonathan agrees. "Let's try and catch them first."
He (assuming there's still a light source, if not he'll stow his buckler to get his own torch) keep with the light and hopefully give pursuit.

Paren reaches down and picks up one of the crossbows, testing out its feel in his hands. He then crouches down and looks closer at their clothing.
