You're at least 4 floors below where the metal seeking statue is...though...there's a possibility you're roughly below where it was. It's sorta hard to tell.
The mage hand carries the dagger down into the hallway. As it passes by the last step and reaches the hallway proper, the dagger turns orange, like rust, edges falling off of it. The leather wrap on it's handle curls up on the edges until bits begin to fall to the ground. The tip of the dagger falls of and hits the ground, a splotch of rust. Soon not much is left of the blade or handle.

The entire hall emanates transmutation magic. A lit up rock is thrown down the hallway. It tumbles down the passage, revealing what's been described already. The rock cracks in two when it finally comes tumbling to a halt, but the hallway is still well lit. There's no obvious source of the destructive effects of the hallway.

"So magic remains functions but items break down this hallway?" Silas question as he thinks for a bit, "Do you need a source for this magic Badager or should I try to dispell it?"

Hmm, yes you could try that, muses Badger. I cannot detect a specific source, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. Or it may be the entire hallway is the source. Try it and let's see.
While Silas does that, Badger will maintain concentration on Detect Magic and see if the aura stays or goes away.

The dispel magic spell is cast, the magic terminating force leaving Silas' fingers....and Badger watches as the magic wavers for a moment, then stays strong. (Note, Badger can only see 30 feet with his detect magic and this hallway is 50 feet long, so if the source is further down, he won't be able to see it.....)
Grenk and Mal sit on the stairs, ready for a fight but feeling rather useless.
"So dispel magi can't handle this, your eyes through here without difficulty. You think have your eyes look at this spot closer?" Silas question, "Before we start experimenting with more items we may find use for later,"

Mal suddenly straightens up and asks, "Can anyone see the end of the hallway? Is there possibly a lever to pull or maybe something that turns off this field in the hallway? If someone removed everything they were wearing and moved to the other side of the hallway, would they be safe and then possibly turn off whatever is powering the magic? Or another option is there a way to use that stone shape spell to dig around the hallway?"
"This is such a dumb idea." As Mal will then approach the entrance of the hallway and stick her little finger past the entrance way just a little bit to see what happens to her flesh.
One more try first... says Badger, and casts his own Dispel Magic at the thing at the far end of the corridor - the bulls head with the ring in its mouth, or whatever it was.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sigh, damnit, fine. Leaving her finger in the hallway a bit longer she then will stick her whole hand in, making sure to remove what rings she is wearing and pulling her shirt up along her arm.
"Not one word, or I will gouge your eyes out during the night." She hisses to the group.
If nothing happens to her arm, she will then hang her head down once more, swear, and then start removing her items and her clothes. This had better be ******* worth it, she thinks. She will then enter the hall and proceed to the other side and check to see if she can find some type of trigger. Waiting for some horror to rise from somewhere and kill her where she stands.
The totally naked....seemingly a woman....swearing and looking about ready to murder anyone who so much as smirks, creeps down the passage. She reaches the end of the hallway. No monsters attack. There is the stairway leading down to the right, and straight ahead is the doorway leading out to the strange shaft. She can easily feel the hot wind coming out of the shaft along with the smell of burning oil. Now that she's here, she can also see that the ring above the doorway looks detachable. She can also walk out onto the balcony into the burning oil smelling place with strange plasma storms above and below.

Yea, not ready for plasma storms dressed like this...There has got to be something, maybe that ring does have something to do with it. Well what's one more dumb decision of the day.
She will then reach up and grab the ring and pull it.
She pulls the iron ring out of the carved wall that looks like a bull's face. The ring disintegrates in her hand.
Back at the other end Badger sees the magical aura fade away abruptly. He does a couple quick tests, and it would seem the effect has ended.
Mal, holding her arm across her body quickly trots back to the rest of the group, her glare sending daggers at everyone, and quickly pulls her clothes and gear back on.
There's an awkward moment when she's done.....where everyone is sorta standing around not looking at each other. Then she rolls her eyes and heads back down the hallway.
You reach the top of the stairs and the shaft with the strange storms in it without any of your equipment disintegrating.
