GERRACK is showing everyone his sketch:
(There is a cliff/mountain wall on the north side of the map with a small break in the middle, signifying the entrance to the goblin cave. A large stream runs through the center of the map, entering the cave's mouth on the lefthand side. Gerrack has drawn a bright bonfire on the small patch of land to the right of the stream at the cave entrance, which is meant to smoke out the inhabitants of the cave. There is some dense forest hugging the left side of the mountain about 20 feet away from where the stream enters the cave; there is a forest that tapers off to a few trees running along the right side of the central stream. The trees of the eastern-side forest end about 20 feet away from the cave entrance. A small roughly 40-foot square clearing lies to the right of this eastern treeline, 50 feet away from the bonfire; the rest of the forest around this clearing then curves back up towards the eastern mountain wall.
In his sketch, Gerrack and Hati are flying on the left side of the mountain wall, roughly 40 feet away from where the bonfire has been set, waiting to swoop in and attack anyone who exits the cave. They are the only two party members on the western side, and are both airborne. Gimble is on the right side of the mountain wall, hidden behind an outcropping about 30 feet away from the bonfire. Edmond and Misty are hiding in the trees that form the edge of the forest on the right side of the central stream, 30 feet away from the bonfire; Finnian and Conrick are hidden in some trees that are about ten feet away from the eastern mountain wall and 50-60 feet southeast away from the bonfire, 40 feet directly east of the central stream.)
(Gerrack is stuttering...)
"If we were going to try to smoke the goblins out of this cave, this is how I would recommend we set ourselves up for an ambush. Gimble would stay hidden, and Hati and I would stay airborne. I would recommend that everyone attack with their ranged spells or weapons as much as possible at first, and maybe we could thin their numbers a little. If anyone could do anything to heighten the flames of the fire, that may also help. Unfortunately I have no spare lantern oil, and I think we will be needing the lantern later. But if anyone has a spell, perhaps? I would also suggest to Gimble that the ball bearings may be more effective inside the cave than outside, but should we want to try to disable to goblins as they exit, I would suggest to spread them to the ground directly to your left in this setup. That way anyone who falls prone will be within the reach of your daggers."
He clacks his beak nervously. "I do not know how we might be able to sneak up to light this bonfire without alerting the goblins, nor what order we should sneak into this area... although I do feel, we should all try to be as stealthy as possible while entering it."
No matter how the party decides to enter the area, Gerrack will be attempting to stealth in on his feet: 21
Since he is slow on his feet, that means he will not be at the lead of the party as they enter. He will fly when he spots that the first few goblins have exited the cave.
(Right... Gerrack would also look around while he's stealthing in, thanks for reminding me to roll the other stuff. Also, feel free to input on / disagree with the suggested plan, since as of right now it won't work unless someone stealths in and stealthily lights a fire, plus, we'd need to bring in dry wood to light it and green wood / pine straw / leaves to create the smoke to fill the cave. Technically I suppose Gerrack could try to stealth in to the front of the cave and light the fire with the tinderbox if we don't have a spell to do such, but someone else would need to help him stealth in while hauling the green wood, or this could go pretty wrong. I'd suggest Gimbel and Hati if you go with the above plan because Gimble would be close by the entrance and can be stealthy, and Hati can get away quickly with flight and can also hopefully be stealthy, I think... but Gerrack's sincere wish is that the party doesn't get our asses handed to us like it did with the red brand bandits last time, sooo... let's not just blindly march in! :P )
Perception: 15 Investigation: 3
(...the natural 1s make their comeback again)
Since more than a few people seem to be on board with the plan of attack, Gerrack will spend some time gathering the necessary materials to make a smokey bonfire before the party starts down the path.

Gniff frowns, "That's it, those bullies have to go. Let's go have a look at this cave." He stomps over and takes up the last of his gear. He swings the spear and shield on to his back and keeps his shortbow in hand as he moves quickly in to the woods toward the cave the animals spoke about. He watches the woods as he goes, glad to feel the wind on his face and the smell of trees.
Sneaking? I'll do my best. If I take off my armour it'll take me 10 minutes to put back on again. And if I remember correctly it'll still be somewhat noisy while I carry it? So I'll probably be wearing it while we approach the cave :( Gerrack, your plan is solid. I like how you place us mud foots on the same side of the stream, and we all have jobs to match our abilities. And my issues with sneaking around apply all the time. So we will go with your plan, yes?
Edmond, who will make his approach last, to reduce chance of giving the game away early.
"Seems like a solid enough plan to me." Misty says with a nod. She would come in a bit towards the end as well, not as good at stealth as most of the others are.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Finnian nods and readies his sling. "If we're all agreed, then let's burn no more daylight. I'll stay back a ways, I've always been a bit too direct for proper sneakin'."
(OOC: the marching order as far as i can tell: Gerrack in the front on the ground stealthing, Gimble next also stealthing, third Finnian trying to stealth, Hati and Conrick somewhere in the middle [i'll need stealth rolls from both of you if you are stealthing.] Misty near the back stealthing, Edmond in the back trying to stealth. the pace is slow since the party is stealthing not that it matters for a short trip.)
The party discusses their plans for the goblins, Gerrack goes looking for firewood once he believes the plan has come to agreement. Gerrack sadly only finds one suitable log. (OOC: DM's comment, while surrounded by trees you'll need some chopping tools of some sort to chop some wood. If you really want you can try to rip the tree out of the ground and pull it apart but the dc for that will be real high.)
Misty, (OOC: since you got a natural 20 on investigation i'm obligated to tell you something, but what were you trying to investigate?)
As the party walks the dirt trail being wary of traps finds no active traps. They do find the two traps from last time both are still in the same state as last time. they continue to the gap in the forest to where the cave is.
Gerrack, as you get near the edge of the forest you see a goblin standing as a sentry for the cave.
Gimble, (OOC: haha, your out of character description is perfect, but you are managing to stay on the trail and following Gerrack.)
Finnian, you seem to be distracted by the very same thing that Gimble is distracted by. This distracting is causing you to be less stealthy.
Hati, (OOC: i'll need a perception check, and if you are trying to stealth a stealth check too, disadvantage if you are flying.)
Conrick, (OOC: i'll need a perception check, and if you are trying to stealth a stealth check too.)
Misty, its difficult for you to see when most of the party is infront of you but you do think you see a goblin standing in the clearing.
Edmond, despite being in the back of the group you have a good view of the clearing there is a goblin guard there, hopefully the guard hasn't seen the party.
For those that you see the goblin, the goblin does not appear to have seen the party... yet.

GERRACK is addressing the rest of the party
Having found only one suitable log, Gerrack relays to the party (before they stealth down there) that this bonfire plan is probably not going to work, and that someone will need to operate as a distraction to lure the goblins out of the cave. Likely this probably means Gerrack will be out there playing the pan flute or something, if they manage to take the goblin sentry down quietly. If not, well, things will happen as they happen...
As he seems to be suddenly spearheading this wild plan, Gerrack takes the lead down the path, stealthing carefully. As he spots the goblin guard, he holds a hand out silently to stop Gimble and the rest of the party from continuing forward. Silently motioning towards the sentry Goblin, he alerts Gimble to its presence and tries to wordlessly get Gimble to pass that information down the line.
Gerrack is going to try to determine from this distance how good the chances of the party are to slip by this sentry and take up positions to ambush the cave. Is this sentry on the ball or lazy and napping?
INSIGHT: 10
Gerrack is also going to take the time to check for tracks, ruptures in the underbrush, or any other signs in the forest that there may be any other exits to the goblin cave nearby other than the obvious one the sentry is guarding, or any other hidden advantage the landscape might be able to provide the party before it engages in battle.
SURVIVAL: 14
He's also looking to see if there are any more traps nearer to the cave entrance:
INVESTIGATION: 20
(OOC: Dear DM, a battle map with our placement on it would be muchly appreciated to help decide on Gerrack's next actions!)
On the off chance that one of the stealth rollers didn't stealth well and gets our entire party spotted by the sentry and engaged, have a precautiouary initiative roll that I hope we won't have to use yet:
(Investigation was just in case you needed it for something. In this instance I'd say she was checking out the path forward for traps., due to finding some last time around.)
Having caught a glimpse of the goblin sentry, Misty would also point it out to the others as they get closer.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gimble sees Gerrack hold his hand up to stop the group. He holds his own hand up and stops, taking a knee. Gimble whispers to Finnian, “Hold tight, we have something up ahead” and Gimble try’s to peek past Gerrack to see what is going on. Perception 18
Edmond stops when the others do, confident in the scouting skills of his friends. assessing the Goblin sentry like he would a guardsman back home in Uwark.

Gerrack, based on your perception roll the best you can tell is the goblin is standing up straight, it does not appear to be sleeping. The cave looks like a cave, no sign of traps.
Gimble, I'm still using your previous perception roll, and you can now see the goblin standing guard since the party has pointed it out. You can't see much else.
Finnian, (OOC: awaiting your next post, unless you are just standing with the party then you are good.)
Hati, The party has pointed out a single goblin guard infront of the cave.
Conrick, (OOC: i'll need a perception check, and if you are trying to stealth a stealth check too. and whatever your character is going to do.)
Misty, (OOC: i'll say we'll hold onto that natural 20 investigation for the next time there is an investigation needed.)
Edmond, Its a visibly armed and armored goblin, not actively hostile, but that may be because he hasn't seen the party yet.
The goblin looks around, surveying the area. The goblin doesn't move from its spot. it still appears as if it hasn't seen the party yet.
