Gark pauses and asks the group, "We gonna all trample in together or do you want me to scout ahead to see what's there? Leastways, might be able to identify what's in there by their tracks."

"Ok. Be right back"
Gark enters the mouth of the tunnel and takes a second to allow his darkvision to adjust. He surveys the mouth carefully before stepping in to see if he can identify the tracks moving in and out of the tunnel. (ooc: favored enemy - humanoids, orcs, goblinoids, sylvan)

After reviewing the footprints, he'll creep as silently as possible until he nears the first junction and listen for any sounds or signs of different tracks.
Once their scout has been gone a moment or two Lia will nod to the others. "That should give him enough room to scout ahead of us..." She adjusts her pack and pushes her white hair out of her face again. "Let's do this..." She then steps inside and follows the path laid out for them by the dwarf.
Gark is the first to enter to mine, analyzing the footprints that lead in and out of the entrance. To the untrained eye, it would be an incomprehensible mess. But, Gark's experience in tracking animals in the wild prepared him well. He is able to discern that the number of footprints are consistent with the number of patrons at the Pick and Tap.
As he ventures further in he starts trying to make less noise while keeping opening up his senses for any odd movement. However, due to his unfamiliarity with caves and other underground environments, he is unable to discern if far away noises are footsteps or merely settling rocks.
The rest of the party follows after a moment as Nephina suggests they hide their numbers while she starts muffling her own footsteps.
As they get to the main shaft, the overall light level (as dim as it was before entering) darkens considerably. The torches and sconces seem to be snuffed out for the night.
If there are no signs of footprints other than those made by miners, Gark will press on past the first junction toward the second, continuing to look for signs of non-miner footprints and listening for signs of movement.
While whispering, she asks the other members that were in the back with her. "It's getting dark in here, and I think I might be the only one who can't see... Do you think it's better if I continue like this to not attract attention, or is it fine if I light up a torch?"

As Gark continues down the mine he passes by a minecart. But after a few feet past the cart he starts to feel a subtle, tingling sensation in the air. As if he crossed some sort of threshold.
He sees some smaller footprints leading into the branch at the intersection he currently is.
While he does not detect any movement, he is beginning to hear some sort of regular sound. But he is unsure of where it's coming from.
As the rest of the party follows Valentia starts to debate whether they should risk being discovered for the sake of one person. While she does this, she tries to conceal her presence to anything unaware of her, but her movements are somewhat clumsy.

A yelp is heard. Followed soon by voices that no one in group is able to understand.
The voices quiet down a little bit and some footsteps are heard coming from the branch nearest to Gark. From where Gark is he can see two small humanoids with elongates snouts tentatively approaching the mouth of the shaft.
Gark returns to the rest of the group, and the tingling feeling fades.
Those with darkvision see:
As soon as he does, the two figures exit the branch. They don't seem to have noticed Gark at all, as they start to split up, one going toward the back of the mine and the other moving to the front. The one moving to the front stops for a moment, turns and says something to someone back inside the corridor the just were, and continues on his way.
A spear suddenly appears in its hand. There was movement of it reaching to grab one from anywhere.
As it reaches mine cart, the tip of the spear disappears. It stops and glowers at its weapon for a moment and the tip soon comes back. As soon as it does it continues its advance, saying something as it stares straight ahead.
It comes to a stop after it passes the cart.
Those without darkvision:
Even though inky blackness envelops you, you still are able to hear voices not very far away.
One voice soon seems to be getting closer. It pauses at one point for an unknown reason, but resumes after a second or two. The then voice stops getting closer, but you suspect whatever is in the dark is close by.
"I assume since I can see you that you can see me." Lia says stepping forward. She speaks common, hoping the figure can understand that language. If not she will try Deep Speach and Elvish in turn. "We do not wish trouble, just to talk..."
The figure ahead of you pauses for a moment and then speaks in simplified common, "We take mountain for One-Become-Two. Heretics are not welcome. Tell the same to others."
With darkvision:
You see it take an aggressive stance it speaks. Three other figures of its kind appear behind it in a similar manner as its spear and also assume aggressive stances.
"We will leave." Lia says with a nod to the kobold. She will gesture her companions back and start to leave herself. "We have what we came for." She explains as she heads back towards the entrance.

Valentia goes with what Gark says, picks up a torch from her backpack, her tinderbox, and lights up the torch. Now raising it as she stands straight and looking at the figure. She's about to say something, but after Lia responds, she stops and nods. "Yes, I guess our only job was to see what was happening here. But at the same time, I'm curious... You were going to say something. Why don't you tell us more? You must be proud enough of your mission to your deity to not hide it, right?"
Gark pauses and asks the group, "We gonna all trample in together or do you want me to scout ahead to see what's there? Leastways, might be able to identify what's in there by their tracks."
"You can call me Neph, and don't worry too much about it" turning to Lia she nods and follows into the mine
"Feel free to take the lead and scout all you want." Lia nods.
