Person in the stockade --> (Lucas is a Tiefling, but appears human at first glance. He has grayish skin, medium length jet black hair, yellow eyes, and scars on his head where it looked like horns may have been previously.)
Lucas looks at Catherine and says, "You are all in danger. This place is not Vil'malish... or if it is then it has been taken over by cultists, zombies, whatever the heck these creepy folks here are."
"We stayed in the Inn last night and were attacked. I don't know if there were any survivors from our party. For some reason the Lord of the town spared me...he is not like the others."
When he realizes that Catherine might still be surveying the situation, he pleads with her. "Please you need to help me and we need to get the hell out of here fast!"
Arlo looks at the lock and tries to slip his tools out of his pack unseen. “Somebody go get them looking somewhere else, or just stand between me and them.”

‘’You guys try to get him out quickly. I’ll be on lookout for anybody that walks into the square. And if someone comes, I’ll try to hold them off to buy you time.’’
As he says that, Sieghart looks around for a better vantage point. Once he’s in position, he will try to see if anyone is coming or is watching them.

Looking around the best vantage point is actually right where you all are. You could climb on top of a stock to see past them. Other than the clutter of stalls in one quadrant the area is fairly vacant.
From the stocks you can look down each road. They all look about the same distance and they are all sparsely populated. The people along the road you took are still watching you. A couple are even beginning to slowly move in your direction.
Arlo, you start fiddling with the lock, right when you think you're about to break it open the picks jam in place.
Nox was paying attention to your picking work and leans to your ear saying, "that's a nice set you have, mind if I take a crack at it?", as she whips out her own set of picks. "Maybe I'll have better luck at this."
Thieves tools: 7
One of her picks bends in the lock. She pulls it out and gives a noticable frown saying, "Unless Arlo wants to give another go at it, I suggest someone gets physical assuming we want out of here asap."
Your axe falls heavy on the lock. It leaves a deep gouge in the latch, but it is not separated yet. You're fairly certain another hit like that will break it.
(Per the discord, I'd say say you can fly into a rage after your first swing doesn't do the job, if you so choose)
Sieghart, with the clang of metal on metal you notice every person down each road stop and turn. The ones moving in your direction from the south road (the one you all walked down) are starting to walk with more urgency.
Catherine steps back and raises her axe again, determined to break Lucas free of his shackles. Even she is beginning to feel a bit of urgency. If this strike doesn't land true....
Happy sees the people coming closer and tries to buy the party some time. He casts Thaumaturgy to boom up his voice and says to the people on the street:
”Stop! Do not come closer! We have to deal with this person as he is one of our people. Let us go with him or we will fight our way out!”
Catherine, your ax slices through the rest of the lock with ease and the lock falls to the ground. The top of the stockade loosens a little now that it is not latched shut, relieving some pressure Lucas was feeling on his wrists.
Happy, your words explode forth, echoing throughout the town. Everyone pauses. The tension is heavy, like the pressure of being underwater. No one makes a noise. Relief comes quick at the halt of their advance, but it fades quicker as a similarly loud voice breaks the silence.
"YOUR PRESENCE HAS BEEN FELT! YOUR ACTIONS MADE CLEAR! YOUR PENALTY IS DEATH! SUBJECTS, BRING THEM TO ME FOR JUDGMENT!"
Lucas, you recognize that to be the voice of the Lord without even looking. You all turn to face the eastern road, where the words originated from. At the end is a three story, stone building with large wooden double doors, iron pike fencing, and a stone balcony protruding from the second floor with open double doors. A man in black robes stands against the balcony railing with his head facing down, his arms raised up in front of him, and with a staff gripped in his hands. You can see some sort of glowing orb affixed the the top of the staff. Another short pause occurs before he slams his staff into the floor creating an eruption of warm air. You see the shock wave travel quickly down the street, through the square, and on behind you. Clearing your vision of the kicked up dust, you look to the figure again and now see two glowing green pin point dots where his should be as he glares at you all.
Feeling nothing but the wave of warmth and a drop in your stomach from either fear or anxiety, you look around you to see what exactly happened. All the citizens now stand where they are with milky white eyes. Before they lacked any emotion. You now see their beings are immersed in a state of aggression. They all begin to head your way, determination in their face to complete their master's will.
Layout of each road for planning purposes:
South road: 5 "people", ending in the road that the blacksmith was located, so you know where to go down that path.
East road: 3 "people", ending in the Lords building with the backdrop of the mountain range behind it.
North road: 4 "people"
Lucas:
The road ends in an T intersection. Going left will lead you to the towns proper entrance, where your company entered through. There were two guard huts, but they were unmanned. There was a seller of swords near the entrance, so who knows if any town folk have armed themselves going that way. The inn where you stayed at is on the right corner of the intersection.
West road: 3 "people", no one is sure where it leads, but it looks similar to the south road as far as buildings are concerned.
No one else is currently in the square besides you all, but the closest one is approaching from the south road and is about 100 ft away, 10 ft from entering the square proper.

“Way I see it, we got two choices: take out ol’ green eyes there, and quick; or we run for it. I know Cathy’s ready to rumble. Happy? Sieg?” Arlo turns from road to road looking for the best choice.
Lucas frees himself from the broken stockade and turns to the group,
"I'm sorry everyone, it looks like I may have been bait..."
Wincing as he rubs his wrists he continues,
"As much as I would like to take a stand against this evil, I fear we might be over matched. My party was quickly overwhelmed when we were attacked last night."
Empty handed he scans the square for some kind of a makeshift weapon (Perception: 14)
"We should disable the Lord quickly, he's clearly the source of the magic...If we can't do that we might be able to take a stand in the Inn near the north entrance. We are way too exposed here in the middle of the square"
Lucas, you take a quick scan of the area, but don't notice anything beyond a stray board by the market stalls.
Nox will unsheathe a short sword from her hip and offers it to you, saying "You need this more than I do." Once you take the sword she'll then pull out her short bow and ask the group, "Move and fire towards this loud guy or just bolt for him?"
At this time 3 people have entered the square proper, with the furthest being 80 ft away.

Arlo sees the piddly shortsword, and hands Lucas a real weapon out of his pack: a battleaxe. "Alright, I'll kick this off then. Sieg, make sure you've got an avenue of escape even if it means leaving the rest of us behind. Helio and Nox, watch our backs."
Arlo puts the spear away and picks up his long-handled hatchets. He then dashes down the Eastern road.
