Survival for mushroom picking on the way to Araj: 18
The Wyrmwrithings offer sparse pickings for mushrooms on the way back to Araj, but you find enough to keep you nourished on the journey, and some stores for future use. You're keeping your eyes peeled for Timmasks, but they are rare, and do not seem to have sprouted in this area.
The remaining journey to Araj is uneventful, and you arrive back at the tower where you are greeted by Grin Ousstyl, Vizeran's apprentice. He ushers you inside to where Vizeran is pouring over books of arcane knowledge, he claims about the coming ritual. Vizeran is pleased with the acquisition of the purple worm egg, which he takes from you and places in a special container prepared for it.
"What else have you found?" he asks. "I don't suppose you encountered that beholder who like to call the Wyrmwrithing's his domain. Karazikar or some such?"
Grimnir starts to recount their trek in the Purple Worm nest as well as with the Beholder. He asks if Vizeran knows anything about a Maze Engine that the beholder seems to care about and that seems important to the Drow. He also ask if Vizeran knows any teleportation means or could teach Belwar some circle's sigils in order to travel faster. Finally he asks if the wizards has any tricks to fight a beholder in its own Lair.
Vizeran's brows furl at the mention of the the Maze Engine."Yes, I've heard of it. No doubt Karazikar wants to get his greedy eyes on it. Have any of you heard of the great Modron March? Mechanical beings from another plane sometimes walk through our realm. The Maze Engine is said to be some relic left behind during one of these marches through the Labyrinth to the South. You're going there anyway, so you might as well keep an eye out. Look for signs of the marching, and it may lead you to it, if you don't get lost on the way. The Gallery of Angels where you may find feathers is there as well. Not to mention demons enough to get a heart, I'm sure."
When you ask about teleportation circles. "Yes, I can teach your wizard the sigil sequence for Gracklstugh and Menzoberranzan if you wish, but you will have to make your way back by foot. I've heard Blingdenstone has a new circle, but I've yet to learn the sequence myself. Should you know it, I would be happy to receive it from you in exchange."(Belwar, now knows the sequence for Gracklstugh and Menzoberranzan, if not known yet.)
On the Beholder and his lair, "On that particular front, I'm afraid I have nothing to give you. It would be best to lure him out, but Karazikar does not leave his domain. He has his slaves and minions do most of his work for him, so he has no reason to. Speaking of his minions, most of them are charmed by his eye beams, but the strength of that charm is not absolute. Perhaps you could enlist their aid?"
Brox feels uneasy. Their wandering about seems to mostly lose them time - and give time to the creatures from the underworld to organise themselves.
Still, she feels something important has been left unsaid: "So this maze engine, what is it meant to do? Why does Karazikar want it?"
Waiting impatiently for an answer, she is packed and ready to leave on the fastest way possible to retrieve the next three items (angel feathers, demon heart, maze engine).

"I wish I knew for certain. But powerful artifacts from other planes are highly sought after, and so that is reason enough to keep it out of the er, eye stalks of that beholder. Should you find anything, bring it back to me. Perhaps we can use it to stop the Demon Lords," suggests Vizeran.
"So, should we teleport as close as possible to the Labyrinth?". Grimnir study the map of the underdark closely and continues "Glacklstugh ? I wonder how our giant friends are doing over there"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Brox leans her head sideways. She is reading the lips of Vizeran, but also watching his gestures and little twitches in his face. What did he know about the maze engine?

[insight 14 ]
Vizeran's movements reveal nothing suspicious. Either he really is as unsure of what the Maze Engine is, or he's very good at hiding his true knowledge.
Where were we? After escaping the Underdark and reporting the demon lord activity to the kingdoms of the upper world, our heroes were tasked with heading back to the depths to stop the ensuing invasion. Armed with an army of representatives from various factions, they led the way to the city of Mantol Derith, where they interrupted a civil war between the traders in the village. Upon learning of a vast library of knowledge known as Gravenhollow, the heroes continued through the Underdark, until at last they arrived, and were welcomed in. Here they received visions of things past, thing present, and things yet to come, though how and when they would come about was uncertain. It was also in this place they met a powerful Drow Wizard, named Vizeran, estranged from his home city of Menzoberranzan, who claimed to know why the demon lords were spreading their chaos, and that he had a way to stop him. An uneasy alliance formed. They met at Vizeran's tower, to learn of the plot to kill the demon lords.
Vizeran claimed his longtime rival, Gromph Baenre, was behind the appearance of the demon lords. Some ritual gone wrong in which he tried to call upon the power of one demon lord, but instead attracted them all. His plan to get rid of them was simple, yet dangerous. Gather materials to lure the demon lords to one place, and have them fight each other until they were weakened and only one was standing, at which point a party of heroes could finish it off. Killing them in this plane would send their souls back to the Abyss where they hailed from. To do this, Vizeran required materials. A purple worm egg, the eye of a beholder, six feathers from six different angels, the heart of a goristro, thirteen Timmasks (rare mushrooms, that are said to grow in the footsteps of demons, a few drops of ichor from from a demon lord, and finally Gromph Baenre's grimoires, to reverse engineer the ritual needed.
Having already scouted some locations, Vizeran sent the party to the Wyrmwrithings. There they found a purple worm nest, and made an unlikely friend with a young drow explorer named Hanne. Further exploration revealed a Beholder named Karazikar who maintained a cylindrical layer of criss-crossing ladders full of mind controlled slaves who served him, and his most trusted servant, Shedrak. The heroes managed to gain audience with Karazikar, who offered them a deal. Bring him the Maze Engine and he would reward them from his vaults, which were plentiful. As well as offer safe passage in his Vast Oblivium. The Maze Engine was a mystery, even to Karazikar, but he knew it existed somewhere within an area of the Underdark known as The Labyrinth.
Upon returning to Vizeran with the purple worm egg, they asked about the maze engine. Vizeran had heard of it, that it was something left behind by a march of Modrons, but did not know what it did, or why it was valuable. However, several of the items needed for the ritual were also in that area of the Underdark, so he suggested they look for it while they hunted down what he needed. The fastest way to the Labyrinth would be to teleport to Gracklstugh, and walk due West. They'd need to find the path themselves, and be ever vigilant for demon lord activity. As the chaos of Faerzress, and the madness spreads throughout the Underdark, time is in short supply.
